Type 18 cars are the oldest cars of Chinese railway in use. They were made in East Germany in 1960s~1980s. You can seldomly find them in China, because they're used almost exclusively for international trains to/from the post-Soviet countries (even if one takes a train from Beijing to Pyongyang one still won't find a Type 18 car; China-Mongolia trains use mixed Type 18 and Type 25). The entire cars follows a mockery of Soviet style, including the European plugs (and interestingly it writes 24V, which is not used in any countries). Unlike Russia, Chinese do not sell domestic tickets of its international train openly to Chinese citizens, which those cars even more mysterious to general Chinese.

Seems the chinese so called luxury is a big letdown. If you travel from moscow to beijing via the trans siberia, worth the money, albiet cost more. The china coach is sparse and looks run down.
