I wish they kept working at this camera like their others and brought out the 2 and 3 etc... I'm currently looking at this now, years later to give a little bonus to views for my RU-vid channel idea. To give little immersive VR look at different areas when traveling for people to really get a feel for what it was like to be in any place. I mean, if that does take off then I'll then invest in higher end equipment for that job, but the rice range of this now fits the niche crowd of viewers that might get something from this.
Thanks a lot for the video :) Overall, none of the current available 3D/360 consumer cameras impresses me because they all use super small sensors and the resolution is just not there. Even 5.7K 360 captured video barely looks any better than actual 720p when viewed flat. Even Pro 8K 360 cameras have substandard flat image quality when comparing it to plain good 1080p.. just the fact. Before there is 12K/16K 360 video capture, nothing will look anywhere near proper 4K. This said, the color corrected clip shot in LOG looks amazing! Beautiful colors and dynamic range. No idea about your editing workflow or what app you used for color correction, but very well done indeed. Again, thanks for the video :) :) :)
Just got the EVO, I do have the r and X. Are you aware of a site to post your 180 3D images to share with others? I seen not been able to find one. Thank you and keep up the great reviews.
My insta360 Evo has hung and had been useless......2.5 years ago. It hung with blue light. Most disappointing. Heard that the production is NOW (Oct 2022) discontinued :-( 😞
Best review! May I ask what do mean @ 4:15? It doesn't look 3D in open areas? I very much want to buy a 3D for my tours & camping. I want to put on the VR headset and feel like I'm truly there. Is the "open area" issue with the EVO or headsets? Thanks for any help!
Hi, may I ask is there anyway to use EVO to shoot bullet time? I love you channel and I learned a lot about 360 video knowledge from you! I've just bought an EVO as I thought it functional equivalent to ONEX plus addition of VR180 capability. And also found that the last EVO firmware is May 2019 (i.e., no more update after 2 months of EVO launched). Do you have any further news about this cam? Thanks a lot!
Excellent review. thank you. I have a question. What rendering bit rate do you use? I've been trying to export 10 minutes 3D 180 video with H265 at 5.7K 100mbs, but it took over 12 hrs and rendering status is at 80% (even at default 80mbs). Any recommendation on bit rate without sacrificing video quality? I'm using 8th gen i7 with NVME M.2 SSD.
I wonder why 180 (3D or not) and 360 video technology is so slow to proliferate and become affordable in the surveillance camera industry where mobility, stabilization, and battery technology is not even needed?
Have you figured out a way to load the insp and insv files onto an SD card and view them from the Oculus app in Gear VR? It seems like it will only load the files if they are on the phone's internal memory.
Not sure if I want to spend that much just to see how it does with what I normally video...seems like fun, but dang would suck if it didn't do well for me.
Hey, thanks for great reviews!👍 I am still hesitating what to get Evo or Vuze 5.7 k 3d/360. I need kind of action camera + nice 360 and 3d capabilities. I know it is a little bit too much for wishlist, but still want to pick one of those cameras.
360 Guy, Great review! I had a quick question if you had a second. I know you mentioned the app for the EVO, and was wondering if you were referring to the iOS version. The reason I ask is, I'd really like to get this camera, but I use the Android platform (Samsung Galaxy). I decided to research the EVO app on the Google Play store, and unfortunately it's sitting at an abysmal 1.5 stars. If you are using the iOS version, have you had (or know anyone who has) tested the Android version? It sounds like, at least the reviews I read on the store, that the makers of the EVO app (and the One X app) may have skimped on the Android version of their software. I would really hate to go all in on the EVO if they haven't perfected the software yet. Thanks again for the review and have a great day! :) vgv
Hi My Insta360 Evo sometimes freezes and will stop recording after around 3 seconds and sometimes will not take photo . If I switch it off it then works ok for while? It is not my sd card as i have the correct spec and speed sd card by sandisk and it works ok in my insta360 one x so can not be the sd card. Has this ever happened to you or any other people who also have the evo?
The 360 Guy thanks for your reply, I’d like to take liberties and just ask you the question , what advantage does the one x have over this camera? Surely this one has two uses? If I’m not going to ski or deep sea dive or fling it around my head would you go for the one in this video?
I bought this camera.. anyone else figure out how to connect the camera to an Android phone? The camera's wifi doesn't show up in the list of avail. wifi on my phone. Anyone figured this out? 360 guy? you? anyone?
BEWARE - Insta Evo has terrible customer support - I just bought the Insta360 EVO and on the day of purchase realized that it cannot be used for live streaming. I wanted to return it immediately, left messages and finally got a response a few days later. They would NOT take it back, saying I activated the product (I thought I need to activate it for enabling live streaming). I asked if I could return the product and upgrade to a model capable of live streaming, they never responded.
I challenge you to make a 80 minute video with this camera, or let it record until it stops, it creates corrupted proprietary video files. And its software is tightly bound to the windows platform, you can't use it with linux and as any nerd knows if your technology is proprietary, windows based and crippleware, it will not last, it will die.. Its a fucking waste of money. Now the lenovo mirage camera, though it failed to sell will survive years beyond, I bet, insta's entire company.
I will never buy anything more from this company, also.. I and bart veldhuzen was blender.Org's first community leaders, half the reason I supported blender was to fuck up maya, because alias would not sell a license of wavefront tav, kinemation, dynamation and composer to me. So I said screw them, even though they gave me $2000 award for an animation I produced with those programs. Even won the attention of pixar. I spent 3 years learning that shit. I said no more, and I pushed blender enough to get people to see it had a future, I exploited it, I did the chris Landreth bit of using it to make animations when features were not adequate to do such animations. It was people like me who got stung by commercial software that lead us to become socialist freeware pushers.. I will pay tons of money for products if they afford me enough ownership and control, but when they don't I take the attitude of al pacino in scarface or deniro in taxi driver. I'm not afraid to show my wrath.. But at least it is in a harmless message, you can blow me off, I'm just giving you a taste of what its like when you play with the longevity of your platform in the interest of locking people in and making the technology shabby. I know Guy Kawasaki of Apple fame would say to prototype it crappy, but that was a first release, you have so many deployments, not a single one, you are like Casio whose keyboards I will never buy, every keyboard has all the features with some removed and the others add the features missing from their other keyboards, so their consumers are never going to be satisfied. That may make perfect business sense, but wise consumers would know to stay away. And if Insta360 EVO is so great where is the vast amounts of content, the long video files on RU-vid, why do these guys do reviews and then never bother to do anymore content with the cameras. Why is VR PORN the only industry to make use of these cameras. I think it speaks volumes about peoples lack of vision.
