Insta360 Vibration Damper Motorcycle Test!

Thanks to Insta360 for sending me some kit recently including the vibration damper. I can see genuinely good applications for this but for motorcycles that is a big test! Insta360 sells this item with the only feature noted as "Significantly reduces impact of intense vibrations on the camera." no mention of stability gains or what that "impact" to the camera is.

Yer sadly I do think its doing it's job of taking high vibrations off the camera but it's not a "stabiliser" as far as I could tell.

The one major thing I love about spicy is his total honesty, fairness and impartiality. If only other manufacturers especially motorcycle related could see the opportunity instead of averting criticism/shirking responsibility.

I personally think it's better without the damping. With the damping the bottom of the video looks jumpy.

Does it work on pocket 1? I mount the pocket 1 on my bicycle and when it is ridden on some rough roads, the video is shaky. So, I am wondering if a vibration damper will solve this problem.

i have confirmed. damper is to reduce damage to the camera. i sent my camera in to them and they confirmed the damage is due to vibration (even though the roads where i travel on are almost all flat and nice). damper is definitely recommended.

That's exactly the reason. Same for the quadlock and other similar products. To protect camera from damage.

I am glad I have not spent out on that, I was thinking on getting one as I couldn't get the Insta360 One X2 to work when bar mounted on my GSXR750 on a trackday, which I had put down to high frequency vibrations.

I would love to see 4 tests...1. Do your bike run without the dampener and without flowstate set in the software. 2. Then do it again with the dampener. 3. Then do it with the anti-shake set in the software. 4. Then do it with the dampener and the anti-shake at the same time. I am curious to see with that progression of tests to see how good the dampener and software work in unison. And how much one improves the other.

Boy am I glad you did this and that I watched it! It's so terrible with the silly thing. My mind thought it can't work, and here we can see what many of us thought. Put it on a spring box? It's going to be insanely floppy and much worse. As is the case! LOL Thanks!!

The intention of the product is to stop damage to the camera from shocks and I think it might help there, but if that makes the video unusable then what is the point. I do think there are some applications where it would work but not on a motorcycle.

Spicy I think part of the issue is that you're filming something (the bike) that is connected between the damper and the camera so it is always moving relative to the bike. If the camera was connected to the bike via a damper, filming something else, e.g a cycling race, then the footage might be better with the damper. Thanks for amazing content!

You may be right, but if you are going to film something other than the bike itself, you would probably get better footage with a drone.

As far as I see this vibration damper makes more shaking than without it. I guess this thing was made for shooting video on foot to make less up and down vibrations. Insta360 has more great stabilisation in action scenes. When I have had a GoPro hero 8 black there was the same interesting thing, when I recorded any action (snowboarding, riding bike through the offroad etc.) GoPro gave me a brilliant stabilisation, but when I tried to capture some nature by keeping in hands I saw shaking.

This isn't the best test, but Racing Karts would benefit from a damper like this. In a racing kart there isn't in suspension so all of the micro vibrations transfer directly to the camera. The latest GoPro's seem to handle it ok, but I've ruined a few GoPro's from this problem. I'm glad to see Insta360 is aware and working on a solution for this problem. I will be trying this Damper out in the future. Hopefully I can get an X3 Cage that will allow me to mount the camera horizontally to help stabilize the camera as well.

This video has highlighted to me that the digital image stabilisation is miles ahead of the physical image stabilisation. I was going to purchase the damper as it seems like a good idea but the practicality is that their camera is already so good that it just doesn't need it.

Yes they do not sell it as a thing to make the video smoother BUT it makes it unusable in my applications. I can see places it could work but not on a moving vehicle.

It definitely works and works well. You see the bike jumping around because the mount is going up and down but the camera isn't so we see what the bike is actually doing and what your actually physically feeling, but look away from the bike and its stable. This can be a good and a bad thing,. Bad for your general vlogging because that would distract from the vlog as peoples concentration will be on the juddering. But I think good for your greenlaning stuff as it shows what the bikes doing and what you're feeling which makes it more immersive.

It reduces vibrations on the camera yes and that is all they claim, but even in the shots with no bike in fame (I just looked at the same footage forward facing) the clouds and buildings are moving back and forth as it can not deal with that much movement. Same reason the old bar mount made for the one x had this issue, too much movement. The product works but is not great for motorcycles unless its ONLY job is protecting the camera and then regardless of degradation to footage (at least on a motorcycle)

Hey man, you mentioned in the previous video that you had 2 One X's. Why not mount both at the same time, one with the damper thingy and one without, for a proper apples to apples comparison?

Its crazy how the vibration damper created extra vibrations that weren’t there and on top of that you see the damper on the camera instead of being invisible too.

I bought one because I think the vibration from my atv riding was making the camera turn off randomly. Not sure tho. I'm still currently testing to see if it helps.....it definitely flops around but I can't see any difference in my videos quality wise. So if it's protecting my camera I'll keep it.

I have had that issue, make sure voice commands are turned off on the camera.

Yes as all say.it's better without..but the stabilisering is werry good.your head is fine,but the bike is not..but för you have a Harley Davidson fx it's probably good or the camera shake to brake..

After i bought & tested it, it hurt my eyes seeing it wobbling about and go home to check out on reviews and found your video. Damn i just wasted my dollars buying these. Should have source out your videos before buying one. Ugh!!
