400$ was the lowest too!! Keep me updated on the camera. At this point it should be very easy just to swap the camera. The hardest part for me shaving down the wires.

Thanks for such a great DIY install video Raymond! Just got done with installing the backup camera following your instructions and it works! Mine's a 2008 C350. The main difference I saw was for the Rearview Camera setting, My only selectable options were "Installed" and "Not Installed". I didn't have the option to select SRVC, but it worked just fine.

Thanks! Old video but still relevant. When I had the radio out I found a spot where I could snake a bit of stiff hose through the passenger dash to where the end trim comes off by the door. Saved me having to remove the piece under the bottom of the dash.

Thank you for the video!! We initially had a black screen after setting everything up. We checked the fuses and plugged everything back in and got it working! But we plugged the power into #69 accidentally instead of #71. Somehow that worked out for us b/c in #71 we got the black screen. Little weird but hey, it's working so I wanted to thank you for making this video. We would not have attempted it w/o you making this. Afterwards, I just purchased an extra 15A fuse and plugged it back into #71 lol.

Paul Ghz thanks for the insight. You are right, when you pull the radio you will see the port. If the power cable is in the way you can GENTLY bend it with pliers, just enough for you to hook in....but that's a rare situation. You will be fine, take your time make :)

It's one wire that can only go in 1 spot as shown at 19:08 I don't understand what more do you need to see. The adapter will only there.

When I unplug the green cable the sound from the radio get lower and distorted. Also the new fakra is to long to fit. It hits the silver plug next to it

A 2012 C300 uses led chip boards for the license plate lights instead of bulbs. Gain a backup camera, lose one light. Is there a way around this issue, or is changing the lighting setup the only way?

Green fakra originally installed goes to the UCI socket in glove compartment. Using adapter UCI - USB you can watch movies from pendrive. I did the same - disconnected original green fakra and connected camera green fakra. View comes up on the screen... but there is another problem.. when engine is started camera view after about 1min disappears... someone knows why it so happens? Is that due to Video In Motion lock?

On some particular W204 models (2008 >), I've noticed they have 2 options on the bottom bar when in Reverse, which look like guidelines for perpendicular and parrallel parking. Could you clarify?

+Roidan Sutherland Yea the newer 204's had options for parking sensors which are installed on the front and rear bumper. That option is in the command center as well

Hello again, Raymond. Before attempting to install a backup camera on my 2014 C250 Sport, I read several on-line articles, some insisting that the vehicle has to have a Command unit (like yours), others stating that if the radio has navi, it also was capable of connection. After running the wire from the rear fuse box (but thankfully not the rest of the way to the license plate light), I tried to tackle the front end connection. On my unit there was no spare input. MB has had so many permutations of the dashboard equipment that perhaps some radios with navi have this capability, but mine does not. My suggestion to others who may be considering this installation is to check the back of their units prior to purchasing the camera.

gordon I agree with you 100%. The port is not a spare connection. It is occupied by another cable. You could swap out the command unit www.ebay.com/itm/222450367496 you may need the screen too.

Raymond, I see by your videos that you are truly an (to use a way overused but accurate term) awesome person. To put this in simple terms (for my benefit only), as I recall, there were only two connections at the back of the head neither of which was green. Thanks for the links. I compared the the command unit link with another on eBay with basically the same description: www.ebay.com/itm/162432844094 Look at the connections, a completely different arrangement. That is what I am talking about with MB's multiple permutations. Your comment on the screen also concerns me. My display is fixed (not popup like yours) and again as I recall, only has the two cable connections. See the attached MB video for the entire appearance of my dash if you wish (note that I had to post a correction from yet another site to MB's video): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LDPScUaOp2I.html Also my backup camera had a power relay operated by the backup light circuit. From the relay, the reverse wire was supposed continue on to the command unit, but the instructions did not indicate where to connect.

Interesting, I am familiar with the different command units but based on my research about 73% 2014 Gen 1 C class have the cable. It was a way for dealers to quickly up charge new cars with $1200 Package upgrade. BUT I understand your frustration....It sucks, just like not getting that bike i wanted for Christmas... I have listened to your comments and revised the description and changed the title to remove the 2014 off the list completely to prevent this heart breaking moment from occurring again. Hi Raymond, thank you for the great video. As currently an installed entertainment system is using the green Farka socket, is there a way to have dual installation like entertainment + backup camera? Or propably a Farka cable with two video inputs?

Ooo that's the tricky one. I have tried using 2 cables and all you get is a black picture. The screen can't handle 2 live signals going to it. The entertainment system starts sending it's signal as soon as you turn your car on so the backup camera will be constantly fighting it when it goes into reverse.

On the Fakra pigtail, did you use both connections or just one? Because I see you can buy them separately?

k2crasher You can only use one plug. Do not plug the factory cable back in leave it unplugged. The reason I got the double ended plug was some w204 had a female port in the radio and I did not want to take the chance of taking all apart just to find out I didn't have the correct wire lol.

Your not replacing any feature. The wire traces back to the back of glove box, it's just sitting there.

Hi raymond i know this question has nothing to do with this video but need your help i have a 2012 C300 and live in florida and yesterday rained a lot when i got into my car i hear some water running inside i remember a video you made complaining to mercedes about this how did you solve it did you remove the rubber plug after some inspection I removed the floor and there was a lot of water inside i remove the plugs temporary if is ok to remove it permanently

Thanks for the awesome video!! How do you route the cable behind the radio? When you take off the panel from the footwell of the front passenger seat, does it open up to behind the radio for you to route the cable to? Just wondering cause I'm about to do this retrofit this weekend and your video jumped from behind the radio to putting everything back in place.

*Thank you!!! I pushed the wire up the panel near the radio. With the ac vents and radio out I reached down and grabed the wire and pulled in what I needed and left the rest behind the footwell.

Hi, I hope this isn't an obvious question. if you use the number plate light location, does that mean you lose one of the two lights if you place the camera in its place. Or does the bulb for the number plate light still sit behind/along side the camera?

Zohaib Farooq Good question, the camera has a clear housing that the bulb goes into so your 2 lights still function like factory. just make sure you drill out the hole so you can get the wire into the trunk.

I attached my camera power to the reverse light and it works intermittently. I did look through the comments and found that maybe I need a capacitor or a relay, if so is there a certain type? If I hook right into a fuse could this also solve my problem?

Make sure your radio has navigation or it won't work. If you don't have Nav you will need to buy an adapter from Midcityenginnering.com

Thanks. My car has navigation, comand and it also has the option for rearview camera in the engineering menu. I was hoping I could just use the Farka cable converter and avoid purchasing the $400 bulky Crux module.

Varun Chauhan how did you access the engineering menu? I have a 2012 c250 with command and nav. I understand I need the farka pigtail to connect the camera, yet I cannot get to the engineering menu. I see your comment is over a year ago. Did your project turn out as you expected?

Hey Raymond, I installed my camera tonight in my c350 and when i put the car in reverse the screen goes blank, then a few seconds later the camera will come in but it lines across the screen...

hi raymond I have ask for your help before ref, the rev camera on my 2010 w204 c200 c class I fitted wired and programed the command still does not work. I have checked all the install from the camera to the back of the headunit with a portable monitor, camera works ok just does not activate when rev gear is selected. Any help would be appericated

philip russell hook it up to a 12v battery and throw it in reverse and see if it comes on. If still no video I would recheck your video cable connections make sure they are connected. If still no picture then try another cable or another camera. Don't just say you checked and didn't. Physically check everything.

Great video. I have no backup camera in the car I just bought and it’s making me crazy. I have a 2014 w204 C300. Does everything from your video still hold true or should I be looking at something else? Is there a newer better backup camera available? Thanks H Gocht Toronto Canada

2014 is completely different look in the video description section, you need a few extra parts. I recommend just Installing an Android screen for that kind of money

None really.... If you decide to go down that rabbit hole you will need a bunch of adapters and custom trim panel. Check out crutchfield website for what I'm talking about. Honestly a screen upgrade is the best cost to feature upgrade

? You can have no brake lights and it would work. You just need a reverse signal

Addicted to your vids thank you. One question, the view angle at 23:19 seems very narrow ( i mean you can see only a few meters away), mine is also like that. Is there an adjustment/setting to make it wider or is it just about the quality of the cam? Thnx

You're a hundred percent right it's the camera. They now sell cameras with 190° view angle they are very nice but the picture is somewhat fisheye.

Hi Raymond, I saw in this video you say used power source for backup camera from the car fuse box as fuse #71 and 15Amp,Now on other video from you for the camera you called upgrade , the camera with radar built in , I saw you did not connected to the fuse box any more , you did connected to backup light to get the power source, with the capacitor for filter the noise . But the confused for me is and I think many user here try to install backup camera is DON'T know with one is correct one ? Fuse box for power camera all the time OR tap in to backup light on the car to get power for camera only when we backup the car . Please explain. I guess many user want to know too . Thank you for your time

+Minh Nguyen There is more then one way to connect a backup camera to a car. I illustrated this over my other videos. I also explained why. Radar/ Sonar gets hot if plugged in and may damage the camera if it's on all the time LEDs are the same. If they don't have a photo sensor they can damage the unit or you can be driving down the road with the LEDs on all the time. Which may result in a ticket. CCD cameras, which don't have IR or other gimicks can be wired to be on full time. "There is more then one way to skin a cat"

No you need an adapter that's a different system. Honestly you are better off upgrading to an android screen

i have question.I install the back up camera last year.worked well for a period of time and now is on and off sometimes especially when i start the car the back up camera does not work than after drive goes to store and come back to the car the camera starts. may you help me??

Could be a buying backup camera or you may need a relay. Check out my video on using a relay with backup camera

Nice thanks, love the blogs on the merc keep them coming thanks, can I ask my c320 on 09 plate, 2 keys only work close up to the car no range on both keys, both had new battery's , but open and close only work close up around the car, at times have to go close to drivers door to work, any ideas on a fix help please, thanks

+trickytricky100 Thanks man. Sounds like your keyless go antenna is going. The unit is about $300....I know Mercedes charges about $600 to replace it. You can do it yourself if you are confident look up the location, each model is different.

Will McDonald it should as long as you have the same Command unit. just pull out the command unit and check for the port in the back. The display size should not affect the command unit. Also removing your display will be different

Hi Ray! Thanks for this video - made the install a breeze. One question, which I don't know if you can answer, after I completed the install I noticed that the command button's rotation feature stopped working. I think I might have accidentally turned off the rotation feature of the command button which could be used to navigate to a new station or used while selecting letters when programming a new address. Do you know what I might have done to turn off/disable this feature? Thanks! Chris
