How to install a Moen Caldwell bathroom faucet and drain. Easy to follow, complete concise instruction. Great for a beginner.
Installing a new Moen bathroom faucet and drain (Caldwell Moen model WS84667) is not too difficult if you take your time and follow these instructions. The current instruction sheet provided by Moen omits some important detail. If the threads at the black gasket on the drain body are not filled in with Teflon tape or pipe dope, odds are good that the drain will leak at the threads.

You have by far the best tutorial on this process on RU-vid. And you just happened to have chosen the Moen faucet my mother wanted installed in her bathroom, the model WS84913 Banbury. I was shocked at the poor quality of this fixture. Even worse was the stopper pull. That thing was driving me nuts. Hopefully after watching your video I will be able to go back in and get that thing installed correctly. Thanks.

Hi Mark, it so nice of you to help your mother. I too found the stopper pull to be a poor design. I was able to get mine to work decently. Keep the receipt and installation instructions. You will be able to get free repair parts from Moen. You just have to call them. Over the years they have sent me multiple cartridges and orings for my kitchen faucet. I've looked into buying better quality fixtures, they are very expensive.

A lot of companies have lifetime warranties for parts. Moen has always made it easy to get warranty replacement parts for the original owner. That's why I bought the Moen faucet.

I would like to thank you for this excellent tutorial for unskilled plumbers like me lol. I had installed the Moen faucet (similar to the one in the tutorial) but it was leaking on the underside of the waste. I switched from silicone to plumbers putt under the waste seat and I added the Teflon tape to the threads of the drain body. I also added plumbers putty right before I tightened the drain nut between the drain gasket and sink opening. I tested out for leaks and nothing! You are awesome. Thank you for your advice

Am now a happy subscriber! I only had to replace my drain plug and sink, but now I feel throughly educated on how to work with my omen faucet and drain. I was especially struggling with getting the drain pull to be in the correct position- not too high and not too low- and you described it perfectly. The spring clip included with my Moen Genta faucet was just a flat, bendless piece of metal with 2 holes. It seriously made the whole install a huge pain. It wasn't until watching your video that I saw what my lift rod clip is supposed to look like! Looks like I just received a 'defective' clip (that skipped the shaping process in the factory) Thank you for your video!

Call Moen, they will send you another clip. Moen has a lifetime warranty, keep the receipt and the installation instructions/model number. So far, I've always had a good experience with their response to warranty claims. They have sent me many free parts.

I allow extra time for the project to over come a small hurdle or two. I always learn something new that often carries onto the next project. My experience is that if you do some research, allow plenty of time to get it done and then take your time, the end result is good. Excellent work. I needed to know how to disassemble the Moen sink drains in my bathroom for servicing, but the drain plugs are fixed by that plastic rod, and of course that led me to wonder, 'Why do they do it that way?' :)

It's the same concept. Check and see what kind of water line connections you have. If it's rigid pipe, then you'll have a compression fitting that connects the water line to the bottom of the faucet... a little different from the flexible supply lines in this video. If the faucet doesn't have a gasket, then you'll need to make a seal between the faucet and the sink with plumbers putty.... and of course make sure the hole pattern on the sink matches up with the faucet you purchase.

Good video. I just installed 3 Moen Chateau bathroom faucets that came with overflow drain assemblies which I can't use in my non overflow sinks. Didn't really need to replace the existing drains but would have been nice to be able to use the new parts, especially since I paid for them.

Thanks for the compliment, Greg. You may not be aware of this, Moen has a life time guarantee, hang on to your receipts. I have a Moen kitchen faucet that needed a new cartridge. I called them and they sent me replacement cartridges for free..... no hassle.

Thanks, I did know about the lifetime warranty and registered the purchase at Moen online. I expect I will need a new cartridge at some point and wanted to be ready. Kohler and Delta also have lifetime warranties and have had to use them for my kitchen faucet and (builder) shower. It's great because those cartridges are pricey and they seem to be designed to fail.

Thanks for the video! I just bought a different Moen faucet with a drain that looks similar to this one. Do you know why there isn't a washer between the gasket and drain nut? The instructions that came with mine said there should be but one wasn't included. And checking back at Home Depot there wasn't one in other boxes either. I saw you install this one without a washer so was hoping to get your thoughts.

You might try calling Moen. I've always had good experiences with them. Their faucets have a lifetime warranty. They sent me parts for free with any hassle. With our current covid situation it may be different... the world is in a bit of a pickle at the moment.

If you read the label on your plumbers putty container, you may see that it says not to use it on plastic. I contacted Moen and the putty will not harm the plastic drain. The main concern is that plumbers putty can stain some sink materials. If you are unsure if plumbers putty can be used on your sink, contact the manufacturer.

Thanks for the instructions. I had issues with the spring clip included, so I used one off the old faucet - did the trick. Noticed the lift rod, perhaps because of the angle in the rod, feels, I don't know, rickety, as if there's a missing sleeve or rubber grommet. to secure it in the hole Thoughts?

I don't think you are missing any parts. I don't think the lift rod is a good design. The bend in it makes it hard to adjust it properly.

I just installed the exact same faucet in my hall sink and I can tell everyone that "beveled" sink seal on the bottom of the sink that comes with the new Caldwell faucet will LEAK. I tried it twice and it leaked twice. When tightening the plastic nut it never really gets tight, it wobbles somewhat. If your old seal was working and not cracked then don't toss it, you might just need it! Luckily I had a spare sink drain kit that I was going to use on the master bath that has a sink seal that will work. It needs to be flat with the top part of it smaller than the bottom that can be pressed in and lock into the sink. Then when you tighten down the plastic nut it seals 100% water proof the way it should work with zero need for plumbers putty.

I was just trying to install my Moen faucet but there is no “spring” in my clip that is supposed to keep the rod in place. It just slides right off whenever you move it. I may have to go to Home Depot or somewhere and try to find one with some actual “tension” in it. Bummer...

I want to put one of those faucets with a sprayer in my utility sink in the basement. I suppose the method is the same whether you're putting a sprayer faucet in the kitchen or the laundry (utility) sink? The faucet in there right now is a three-hole cheap plastic stationary type. A faucet with a pull-out sprayer would be a lot more useful......

Very well done tutorial. I have a problem, however, that did not seem to occur in your video. The small clamp that is supposed to lock the drain lift rod along the pivot rod doesn't hold. It just slips both ways and eventually the assembly either comes apart or slips to to drain pipe and locks up. It doesn't have the pinch power to stay in place. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a simple fix?

You could try "spreading" the clip apart further, that should give it more tension.

@@Know-How-Now Thanks for the suggestion. I did try that... didn't work. I ended up just wrapping some masking tape at before and behind the strap connection to the rod to work as simple collars. Works like a dream. Very surprised at this bad engineering from Moen. Again, let me say that I found your video one of the most clear and helpful ones I have ever seen. Kudos to you.

I already had too much fun tearing out the vanity, faucet & associated plumbing then cutting through tile, metal screen & mortar to access a lead drain pipe that the carpenter's put a nail into pipe in 1952 when the house was built. Lucky me, it started to leak on my watch. I like to make high quality videos that you can see what is going on, not waste your time watching me struggle, you'll have to go elsewhere if you want to spend your time watching that time of thing.

I didn't like the plastic drain that came with the sink. I had to cut the old one to remove it. I bought a higher quality metal drain from a local plumbing supply house. The old drain should work just fine. Just eye it up to make sure everything fits.

Sorry to hear you are disappointed by the video. IMHO, the title, picture and description indicate that the video does not show how to connect the plumbing to the faucet. I do my best to stick to the title. The video is already 10 minutes long and that is already way beyond the attention span of many people. You may want to search for "how to connect plumbing to a faucet" instead.
