This is the best how to on this 4th drum from the 4l80e. The .04 feller gauge did the trick. Less than 2 minutes, was scratching my head on how to tackle this and found your video. Thanks.

a 1lb plastic Folgers coffee container works good also, the piston almost snaps onto it. 2 small 2x4's on end work for the housing side

Doesn’t work. Followed the directions to a T and when I go to press down evenly, only half of it goes in.

You have to keep spinning it and using the feeler gauge or lip seal tool. Once you get it together and install the clutches you can then air check it through the support bolt hole with about 20 or 30 pounds of air pressure. if you hear no air escaping and the piston is holding the clutches you know you got it right.

This is awesome. I really don't want to pay $300-$600 for this tool. I'll happily buy you a beer but I have another question I was hoping you can help with. If I do mess this up, what are the part numbers for replacement seals? OK, another question as well - how can you know you haven't knicked the seal? Did you disassemble it and examine it a few times? Thanks for thinking of this. I should have got a tool 3 years ago at $150 but even that is obscene. $300? Insane. Thanks! How do I paypal you some beer? :D

+Mark Edwards Sorry I am just getting around to answering this response. I know I didn't nick the seal because I did this procedure about 5 times using the same seal and installed with no issues on the transmission. As far as I know, I think you have to buy the rebuild kit to get the seal. Because it took me a few rebuilds to get the transmission rebuild down, I had a few extra seals. It is insane to spend that much money on the tools. It really isn't needed as it just takes a little finesse
