Don't wire harness to acc. outlet. Okay, video wiring very sloppy. I ran hot wire down behind driver's tire well splash panel, through pinch weld jack lift channel, over and behind rear tire splash panels, and up through rear panel. No need to get under SUV. I soldered all connections. I didn't even take all the rear inside panels apart either. Very clean and functional set up.
just wired an extra plugin off that rear auxiliary lighter power port.. it's rated for 120 watts 12 volts with a separate 10 amp fuse... Works fine for me and I still have use of the port for charging my RC batteries and air pumps etc.. No need to string a wire to the battery at all.
How did you wire into it? What did you do? I'm trying to install a harness and also don't want to deal with taking it to the battery. I can't find any videos of doing it this way
I did the same thing, tapping into the rear cargo auxiliary port. I added an inline fuse holder just to be safe in case of a short on the trailer. The trade off is that the vehicle has to be on, but I have push button start so it works out perfectly.
My laptop blows the fuse if I run it on Turbo instead of Performance but even on Performance and having AC on, it blows the fuse. If I hook up the trailer the 10amp fuse could blow w/ enough load (less).
I see the auxiliary lighter socket right there at the back driver's side. Why don't you run power just to it instead of under the car and all the way to the front?
So the end that gets the ring terminal ....could you not just wire that to a cigarette lighter plug and insert it in the lighter socket that shhoppe points out in the back??
What's the reason for the module and the battery hookup? My s10 just used the connection set. My sil has 09 rav4 and kit was installed by dealer. Not working now. Pulled driver side panel. Has connector into original plus feed to 4 prong flat connector. No module no battery line no ground. Maybe on passenger side?
The vehicle may be equipped with factory tow package which means that there are most likely relays in the fuse panel that may have tripped which is why the wiring would not be working. The module is a converter box to take power from the battery and send it to the trailer lights so that the trailer lights do not take power from the vehicles tail lights.
@@etrailer thanks. We checked manual and fuse panel. Factory towing fuse compartment spot is empty. He bought the vehicle new so he didn't remove the fuse. He thought dealer might have installed the trailer stuff. Lights used to work on his boat trailer ( at least he thinks so lol). Maybe we should put a fuse in that spot just to be sure. I just researched his fuse panel stuff. For towing I only see reference to a fuse but no towing relay. Is it possible that his plug and play connector does the link from different brake and signal leads to the common yellow (and green) for the trailer?
