Brackets and things to be aware of if you are considering adding a 2100 or 2150 to you Jeep's 258. I also show what a manual choke setup looks like on these carbs.
Man that CJ runs like a top! Great video! I’ve got a yj with a 2100 giving me major fits right now. Electric choke is stuck and I think there is something wrong with the carb jets, I can barely get it to idle.
A little piece of trash can ruin your day. Make sure your build/rebuild is correct. Check the float level. Insure you are getting good vacuum without leaks.
I like what you did here @TigerCreek I have a POS 75 cj5 with a 2100 and the thermo choke has been robbed of its guts. I would like to go with manual choke but I don't see any one discussing the linkage that gives you high idle capability on cold start which I think you have. Saw you ground down one of the followers, but the linkage and components on the PS side of the carb seem purchased. Where do I start for parts?
I decided to go with a Hi-Po manual choke conversion kit popular with the Mustang guys - www.mustangsetc.com/hi-po-manual-choke-conversion-kit/ The follower on the high idle cam bracket needs to be ground down or cut off to give your high idle cam full motion with the manual choke installed. You'll also need a choke cable and a mounting bracket for inside of the cab. I have not been able to successfully solve the choke slowly creeping on. The only thing I know to do is add a tensioning screw that can be released and tightened.
You really want the 1.08 venturi. I believe I am running 47 jets. A 232 with a 1.14 venturi carb may have excess fuel issues. Remember, that carb came off a V8 and your are putting it on a small I-6. Just be aware that you may be setting yourself up for a lot of creative problem solving. Good luck!
hi just found you , from over the pond in uk bought a 69 cj7 with a load of parts including new carb so your vid has been a great help as old carb and hoese were missing , could you tell me where all the vac lines and other bits go and do, have read loads some say cap them others say makes it run better, would be a great help as you sound like you know , anyway thanks for this vid would be good too here from you see if i can get this jeep to run thanks again for your knowledge . Sam
This all boils down to what you are trying to accomplish. If you want to bring it back to factory specs you'll need to find a shop manual with your specific year/engine. If you are just wanting it to run then you have a lot more options immediately available to you. For "running" you only need vacuum for the carb, distributor and power brakes if so equipped. The engine and carb will determine where those hookups go.
I’m doing the swap now and I notice no one mentions anything about a needle:seat or any fuel lines not connecting Straight to the carb. The carter ones don’t fit.
Use the same fuel filter with the additional return line and connect a rubber fuel line to it and run it to the 2100. Just add a screw in fuel filter to the 2100 and connect your new fuel line there.
This is truly a manual choke carb and there is no choke vacuum pull down - so no issues. The carb was coated with Cerakote - Midnight Bronze, Copper and Titanium.
Oh Ok, I guess I’m a little confused I see in your video on the back side top of the carb, closest to the brake booster what I was told was the choke Vacuum pull down. Has three 1/4” head bolts holding it on and pushes on the choke shaft with a lever just above the throttle linkage. I have the exact same thing on mine. But I ’m going to be using a manual choke as well and was wondering if it could just be deleted. Great video lots of helpful information. Thank you. 👍
Ah, just the information I needed. I’ve Epoxied both choke ports closed. Deleting the exhaust/ electric choke and choke pull off options. Effectively making it a manual choke housing. I have never liked the exhaust/electric chokes. 👍👍
I’m sorry to continue bothering you. But I noticed you have the EGR deleted and blocked off. Did you make your block off plate? Did you delete the curved pipe from the exhaust manifold to the intake manifold? If so what size plugs did you use? Last have you had any issues? Thanks for any info. I’m have my EGR disconnect vacuum port capped. But still in place. I seem to be chasing a rough idle intermittently.
Where can I find another 2 barrel MC 2100 for my 1980 cj5? Has the 258 engine. The 2100 on it does not have the data plate on the carb. Where should I look/search for one at? Thanks.
