We have a great Jeep salvage in Colorado Springs called FN Jeep. I've put bored out 4.0L throttle bodies on all 5 of our Wranglers because it makes a noticeable difference when nearly nothing else does. If I remember right, the 2.5L had 52mm, the 4.0L had 58mm and could be bored to 62mm, which is quite a gain. At 7000ft, that motor needs all the air it can get.

I had the same problem with my 2.5L YJ and excessive blow by. I fixed it by replacing the pcv elbow with a pcv valve made for a 4.0L Jeep engine. I don’t have the stinky gas / blow by smell anymore which is nice, and my jeep runs better.

I certainly believe that you are right. I have cleaned out the vent on the top of the crank case that has a hose going to the air box (it was completely clogged). That helped a ton! the reason the iac valve wasn't all the way closed is because it's a stepper motor which stays in place you turn the engine off, when you start it the ecu will move the valve all the way open or closed to relearn the position.

An old trick to help out an AMC 2.5L four....hey man, it works! The 2.5L AMC four cylinder is maligned *a lot* and for a petty reason: it's not a 4.0L or a v8. I for one have always admired the durability & rugged build of that motor as AMC based the famous 4.0L six off of this motor, not vice-versa. Also, many folks bag on the YJ as a "Wrongler" with square headlights, but I'd take one w/ a 2.5L as a Jeep to putt-around in and as a parts runner vehicle for the other Mopars here as IT WORKS.

One modification won't do much. A combination of mods, yes. Add TB spacer, cold air intake, performance exhaust, and performance ignition with proper spark plugs... and they little motor wakes up noticeably. I also have a hi flow water pump, electric fan, and Griffin radiator for those hot summer days. Yes, the motor runs lean, but it's angry and can turn 31" tires on stock suspension and gears with no problem 😎👍

WOW, my 93 sounds just like your Jeep. Mine has over 300K on the clock. I did an inframe rebuild. Was very careful with tolerances to the point of using different clearance half shell bearings on the crank to keep clearances correct. I rebuilt lifters but had that tic. So I went back and replaced lifters. Still the same. I think my rockers and pushrods are worn. Only have 1/2 turn on rocker arm before bolt tightens. Going to go back and grind off rocker forcium. On the IAC, they normally on key on, jump fwd to close, reference and depending on temperature reading, drawback for proper cold or hot idle start. On some applications, when you key off, they jump to closed to kill air to prevent dieseling. My Harley has one that looks like it would work on a Jeep. It jumps in to close on key off. Probably since hot idle is 1050 RPM.

I swapped my 2.5 throttle body to the 4.0, as well as installed 4 hole injectors. I did notice it backfiring into the intake if I blip the throttle real hard when I downshift - on rare occasions and usually when it's hot outside. I think my problem is not upgrading the exhaust and removing restriction there. I do notice a bit more mid/high range performance, can hear the quarter wave tuning more from 2k rpm to 2.7k, but the low end torque suffers somewhat. Cheers ✌🏾.

@@JeepSheepTV Also worth mentioning I think my choice of injectors was an oversight on my part. I noticed a youtuber swapping to 4 hole and their "tuning" consisted of switching their year of 4.0L injectors (they had a 4.0) until it ran in closed loop (and more or less stoic). I didn't really check mine haha, but I'm sure it's running rich, my injectors are 96-98 meant for a 4.0 (~23 lb/hr) which I'm sure is much more than my 2.5L needs, I just need to find info on what the 2.5 is supposed to flow and where to find 4 holes at that flow. I could see this being a part of the backfire problem.

@@JeepSheepTV i installed 4 hole injectors, cold air intake, iridium plugs, header, exhaust system, and the throttle body. Pick it up, drove 10 minutes down the road and over heated bad! They had to tow it in and found that the head gasket may have blown. Out of all the parts they put on, the only thing the shop didn't do right was putting the 2.5 throttle sensors/plugs on the 4.0 throttle body. Just wondering if that would cause the head gasket to blow
@JeepSheepTV
@JeepSheepTV 5 лет назад
@@beavers7979 You see, the 2 sensors that are present are idle air control and throttle position. If the throttle position sensor feeds incorrect info to the computer you could have a lean mixture resulting in more heat but the values should be the same from 4.0 to 2.5. The only thing that would be really different is the idle air control but outside of idle that shouldn't have affected the engine temps either. None of your mods should have any affect on you head gasket unless it was it was already about to blow and the marginal increase in power is what set it over the edge. Unfortunately I don't think you have a case. I would be more worried about the engine cooling system ( fans, water pump, thermostat, etc.)

@JeepSheepTV
@JeepSheepTV 4 года назад
Spacers work on a series of fluid flow principles that depend highly on the geometry of the manifold, head, and a whole bunch of other variables. Basically, they provide different results for different engines. There was a dyno test done that you can find online saying it gives about 5hp for this engine. Some spacers are priced way too high for 5hp in my opinion but that part is up to you.

@JeepSheepTV
@JeepSheepTV 5 лет назад
I think that grinding the intake manifold will make a difference. In fact I plan to make a video later of me having that done. The wider opening of the TB gets instantly choked down by the smaller diameter opening in the manifold.
