Today, Eastie mashes together a 6BT, a 4L80e, and a Nissan transfer case, then starts work on fitting them into their new home. He also uses a welder to make it look like birds have left metallic droppings all over the gearbox crossmember.

Its good to see someone having a go & not paying someone to do the job Once you have it in the can take the front springs out & sit it on the bump stops & check the sump the the diff center This was something i missed when i modified my sump & it will just kiss at full travel
@OutAboutOffroad
@OutAboutOffroad 3 года назад
Thankyou mate! I know I will have to modify the sump to clear the tie rod. I have extended bump stops so hopefully it will clear the diff too. Fingers crossed 🤞

Mate, loving your build! I have just about finished my Barra build replacing the TB45, however I kept the RE4. This is bringing back so many memories, cheers!

Thanks mate! Barras are bloody weapons, you'll love it. RE4 is strong as, too, it'll be sweet. If you haven't already looked into it, JD Transmissions up in Brissy are the only place to go for getting them built.

If you put light grease on the oil pump gears it helps with dry start ups to get the oil to pick up.
@OutAboutOffroad
@OutAboutOffroad 3 года назад
Thanks for the tip! I did read that when I was googling how to solve the oil pressure issue, but only had bearing grease handy and wasn't sure if it was suitable. Chucked regular oil in it anyway and it worked after a bit of cranking 👌

Awesome conversion! Have you found the weight of the engine to be an issue so far? If so, how have you attempted to resolve it? Is it affecting the longevity of your suspension parts? Finally, would you consider the conversion in a Y60 patrol?
@OutAboutOffroad
@OutAboutOffroad Год назад
cheers! No the weight hasn't been an issue. While I can notice it if I concentrate, the only time it ever makes a difference is if I'm wheeling over sharp rocky stuff. On low/no tyre pressure the weight is more likely to deform the tyre far enough to damage my rims so I keep a closer eye on it. it's hard to know if it wouldn't happen with a lighter engine but technical stuff like that is the only time I've ever worried about it In terms of suspension strength. When you think about the kind of forces involved in slippery ruts when the entire weight of the car gets tossed to one side, and all that's keeping the diff under the car is the panhard rod, you start to realise it's an incredibly strong setup. Even if I hadn't braced the diff and coil towers to keep Mr. Engineer happy, a bit of extra weight wouldn't be the thing that kills them

@@OutAboutOffroad thank you very much for the response. The weight of the engine has been bothering me. Hopefully, soon, I will transplant one in a Y60 Patrol.

Cummins can be a bit of a pain in the ass when it comes to oil pressure, Every service the filters should be filled so it doesnt starve, every cummins truck had to for some reason otherwise they can go bang Why its only cummins it happens idk (Im not a pro with them) but that could of been the case with your oil pressure not coming to the turbo earlier
@OutAboutOffroad
@OutAboutOffroad 2 года назад
Yeah it's an odd quirk. People grease the oil pump if they take it out ,which helps it self prime. I figured out that pumping oil into the turbo feed hole until it's full works great

alright just for you, I will 😅 I would have liked to paint the engine and do a bunch of other things to pretty up but truth be told it will all be mud coloured again 5 mins into the first trip out

Nope, it got really hot while cranking for not very long. But that's what the adapter kit is designed to use (edit: see below)

I have a question, how do you think how much fuel will be consumed by the 6bt engine in this configuration? how much horse power and nm you got ?
@OutAboutOffroad
@OutAboutOffroad 3 года назад
just from reading online, people are getting low tens / L per 100km on the highway. it makes sense, the engine is known to be pretty efficient but it does come down to application of the right foot 😏 this is a 215hp rated engine, but I intend to do a bit of work on it and have some performance goodies lined up - stay tuned ;)

@@OutAboutOffroad what is the cost of fitting to a y60 with a y61 gearbox? I can buy the engine in my country for $ 4,000. the connection is more expensive because I saw that it costs $ 3,400
