Love that thumb. I would however suggest a manual shut off where you teed into the auxiliary line so you can still use other auxiliary equipment. As you are set up you would be feeding two things at the same time. Great work and a nice piece of kit though.

Their willingness to allow humans on their backs is a perfect symbiotic relationship, almost as good as a thumb on a bucket. @@Hoaxer51

im an operator but i do a lot of work on the side and i used to be a fulltime fabricator/ welder clamp the top down when you tac it the welds will cool and pull the top up as a weld cools it also shrinks thats why sometimes when you get something perfectly aligned or squared after you tac it on one side it moves a bit also burning hot enough it shouldnt really matter but its best to clean the weld area first like on the back side of the thumb that goes against the boom as well because when you just grind the outer sides your still leaving that paint underneath where the weld will penetrate and could still pull some impurities through but burning hot enough on that size metal it shouldnt hurt you just some tips ive learned over the years great video man!!

I am also working on my new workshop, and yes even here in Sweden it costs alot to get power, my price for 750m / ½ mile is aprox 40000 usd or 430000 sek. this is for 3 phase 11000V to a transformer that i can get 3x400V up to 450A if i want. Shop is for repairing Mining Equpiment, Heavyduty Welding of large buckets and repairs of generally large machinery. I am going to make it a youtube series. atm we are doing prep on the ground getting the stumps and green stuff of, then we level it...easy to work ground 5 - 6 meters (17 - 20ft) of sand. As for hydraulic fittings i dislike Jic and O ring fittings strongly. I pref G fittings, (oppsite cone of jic) since they are easier to get started and you get a good stop feeling when they are tight, jic sorta never stops until they strips. (G and BSP is same pitch but BSP is coned and G is straight. for sealing i pref Tredo washers (Washer with rubber vulcanized to them). Anyways thanks for another good watch🙂 Sorry for my lack of English grammar.

I installed a lot of hydraulic couplers on excavators when I worked for the dealer. Every one I ever installed came with instructions to not use the pins that come with the coupler to install to the stick because they are not hardened, and will damage the stick. You were supposed to reuse the pins that were on the manual coupler, and the pins that come with the hydraulic coupler are meant to be installed on a bucket.

I’ve never heard that but that’s what I did…. Except the thumb pin you don’t have a choice it’s long and you need that

Don't forget to double check the pressure on the thumb cylinder. You want it to give when pushed past a certain pressure by the bucket cylinder. Otherwise, you'll have them fighting each other and one will eventually get bent. 😊

You have to sacrifice a 10mm socket to the engine bay ever once in a while to keep the spirit of the machine cooperative.. or whatever equivalent the gods of non metric machines prefer :)

Matt, You may want to rethink leaving the moisture gaps. Condensation and rust can create rust jacking over time. Seal it all with weld and paint it well. This will delay rust jacking.
@Bad_CAT_itude3408

I agree. Moisture can wick upwards between the two surfaces and hang there and never completely drain.

I agree, it change any digger to a multifunktional machine, but they are pricy. Here in Sweden these 10t wheeled diggers with rotortilt have replaced 80% of the backhoe-loaders. The wheeled diggers have often a heavy duty trailer after where they keep buckets and stuff. And use the trailer as bringing material on the site. The guys running these, could preform in a circus with their digger.
