@@HectorRodriguez-yc9bj have you worked on the newer trucks? The last two months of my time have been soaked up by a 99 Silverado 2500 and a 00 Silverado 1500. They suck to work on. Don't even get me started on Dodge, and Fords after 1995 are horrible. Toyotas, they are like Dodges... ick.

Pro tips: When you install a new intake on a sbf.( 289/302 ) Make sure you install the thermostat housing BEFORE you put it on the motor. That bottom bolt is a PITA. Second. You can do the install without removing the distributor. Third. Get a small caulking gun & try the Mr. Gasket right stuff on the china rails. You can get a nice pretty bead accros the top. Let it tack up a few minutes too. They come in black & clear. Stuff works well.

I’ve been watching your channel for a couple years now man and you’ve really inspired me to buy an old car. Somehow that motivation landed me behind the wheel of a car I never thought I’d own. But I bought a 63 1/2 Galaxie 500 and it also has a 289. So the mustang is giving me ideas for “go fast parts!” It’s definitely not easy doing this stuff in your early 20s but I’m hoping to get it rolling soon. I plan on rocking a 4 Speed Films sticker in the side window as well! Keep up the great work, Ben! Big inspiration for this 21 year old Indiana kid. The mustang is going to be so sick!!

As a tip from someone with years of experience, use a socket on hose clamps. You can also pull the distributor cap and remove half of the wires and set it off to the side, or sometimes none. Less things to do, less chance of something breaking.

You'll be really happy by getting rid of that "Edelbog". Holleys are really efficient and easy to maintain. Another big upgrade if you want is an electric fuel pump which will pretty much get rid of your hot, hard start events by giving you constant pressure to the carb.

So I'm not hating on what you're doing with the Pony car, lots of memories doing this when I was your age. One thing I learned only recently about changing inlet manifolds on old motors. Always check the fit before bolting them down, ie : mating faces (manifold to head). Misalignment can cause internal coolant loss and overheating. Have a 340 which had this issue and previous owner was forever replacing head gaskets thinking they were the problem. With manifold measured and machined, problem solved. Shop also narrowed manifold for port alignment and suggested serious horsepower gain, they were right. Very cool Mustang by the way. 😎

I would have fitted a DP. If you haven't already done this, you can get lighter springs for the vac can, to get the secondaries in a little sooner, also lighter springs for a quicker timing advance, you want it all in for no more than 3000 rpm, will wake the motor up.

Nice progress! Should be a noticable uptick for sure. As a note. The oil that's made today is better than it's ever been. The only reason to run high ZDDP oil is because of flat tappet lifters on these older engines. Newer engines with roller lifters just don't need that kind of protection, and the high zinc content kills catalytic converters.
