In this video, I go over the steps I take when installing a vinyl transition from tile to LifeProof vinyl plank. The tile is about 3/8 of an inch higher than the LifeProof. The u channel (track) will be to low if you try to set it on the floor. It will need to be built up to assure it will click in when installing it. Thanks for your support and I hope you enjoy the video!

At first impression I’d never let this dude over my house to do a job because he is creepy after watching his vid and listening to him I find him to be quite an excellent teacher and not creepy at all and would gladly have him over to do work. I have Lifeproof luxury vinyl planking in my house with a transition strip between the vinyl floor in the bathroom to the master bedroom carpet. I'm having the carpet replaced and I can't figure out how to remove the transition strip - it's covering the carpet tack strip. I can get a putty knife and a prybar under the transition strip, so it does lift 1/16" to 1/8" (it's not glued down), but I can't get it to lift up any further and I'm afraid I'll break it. Can you recommend how I can safely remove the transition strip so I can reuse it once the new carpet is installed?
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR 11 месяцев назад
Thanks for the question. Sorry for the delay in getting the answer to you. If they are removing the carpet, you could cut the carpet at the transition so you can get under it on both sides. I would try to use 2 prybars and get under it with one and lift up and then the other and work your way down. We usually break the transitions we try to remove but sometimes you can make it work. Good luck and if you haven't already had to do something about it, let us know how this works out for you. Thanks again for the question!

@@YOUFLOOR- Thank you for responding. The carpet guy already took care of it. I was trying to use a prybar on one side, but he used it on the other and it popped out of the retaining tray intact. He was able to reuse it and everything looks great.

I hate snap track transitions. I usually glue them in because it takes so much time messing with the snap track. Came from you're quarter round video and subbed. You do good work.
@YOUFLOOR

I hear ya. They can definitely be a pain in the butt. Especially if you have to do a long hallway. Jeesh. I often use silicone and brad nails when I'm doing dark transitions. Just so the brad nail doesnt move up and down and work loose. And then putty them. But brighter colors are hard to hide. They tend to pucker up at the nail. Also when I make the videos I do it the way the manufacturer says just for legal reasons. Don't need someone's saying "Z said do it this way and now my floor is ruined." That's why I try using the the term "the way I would do it". Heck if I'm being honest, if I can get away with no transitions.. that my kind of install. Thanks for the comment

@@YOUFLOOR Yeah I meet a lot of people that glue and bradnail them. It's hard to get the metal exactly where you want it, especially on endcaps against Something else hard, or on angles. Something I've figured out is, the senco guns with senco nails are the most consistent in the depth they shoot. You take a scrap piece and dile in the depth and you can usually sink them just under flush. This is really great for laminate stair nose too because most Brad nailers bounce right off the hard material and leave a crater. But your probably right, if you're working for someone picky, or if something fails it could get you in some trouble if you don't take the time to do it right. Too bad mfr's don't want to pay for quality anymore these days. I don't get paid for endcap and transitions, but sometimes I end up spending a whole day messing with them.

I made them with my table saw. If you don't have a table saw. You can use more cardboard. Just build it up in the back so it slopes down.. also might help to tape the cardboard piece together so they don't move around. Hope that helps. Thanks for the question

Thank you for all your videos, I am a beginner and find them very helpful. I am trying to install a transition for this exact situation, tile to laminate. My problem is the metal bar is not flush with the tile, it’s a little higher than the tile level. With what tool will you suggest to cut the top of this piece while protected the tile?
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR 2 года назад
How much higher is it. May have to put something thin like a piece of felt paper. And the a grinder. If it's only a little, it may take some patience but you may be able to file it down. With a metal file. Hope that helps. Thanks for the question
@danousm3608

We purchased Shire Plus 7"x48" Ronan Color vinyl plank 5.00 ml. We have ceramic tile, approx 360 sq. ft. Only one area on floor has loose tiles. What is your advice for preparation of the floor? Thin-set? What would your next steps be? Do you know any good flooring contractors in St. Pete area of Florida?

Do I have to remove the Schluter strip from my tile before I transition to my new Lifeproof plank? If so how do I remove it without busting up the tile?
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR Год назад
No. Go to 2:09 in the video and you'll see where I may a little groove for the transition to sit on the edge of the schluter bar. Hope that helps. Thanks for the question
@gabrielmaguire8681
@gabrielmaguire8681 Год назад
@@YOUFLOOR unfortunately for me the Schluter bar is actually slightly higher than the tile and it comes to a narrow peak to boot as it lips over the tile making it hard to get the t molding to sit flush. I could cut it with an angle grinder cutting wheel, but I don't think it'll turn out that well nor even to allow for an even fit.

What is the brand of the transition that you used for this video and where can I get it?
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR 2 года назад
I am not quite sure of the brand. But most lvp flooring have a matching transition. If not. Check your local floor and decor. They have many types of transitions, from laminate to lvp. T molds and reducers. Lowes has a pretty good selection as well. Hope that helps. Thanks for the question

Where did you get those small wood wedges
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR 2 года назад
I cut them on my table saw. Just set it on a slight bevel and rand some 1x4 through. If you don't have a table saw you can use two pieces of cardboard. A smaller one on top of bigger one, so then a long piece of card bord on top. If you tape them all together, it will make a pretty strong wedge. Then, your u channel should set up pretty good. Hope that makes sense. Thanks for the question
