Installing A T Mold From Laminate To Carpet (NO CARPET REDUCER)

In this video, I go over installing a t mold from laminate to carpet. Sometimes the transitions we need are the wrong ones or they need to be special ordered. Well don't sweat it. We don't need a reducer. We can knock this out with a t mold. And the results are perfect.

Thanks! I needed to see how that is done! You are correct. The guys at Home Depot are not installers. Their explanation on hoe to install are pretty lame compared to your channel. Thanks for taking the time to explain this transition installation!

Couldn't make up my mind where to end the laminate flooring. Some people put the transition in front of where the door closes but this made up my mind on installing it under the door when its closed.

Check this video out. It has several scenarios for installing transitions. You should be Ble to see it from the end, how they click in. Thanks for the question. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_oTUB9EM3a8.html

A tip I saw from another floor installer is to put a strip of felt over the tack strip to insure the nail points don't go too far through the carpet and into feet.

Hi my friend, great video, got a question. Does the concrete for those screws you used on the U channel need to be predrilled? Thanks Also, +1 on trimming the padding back. I usually use a pair of scissors .
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR 9 месяцев назад
I have not always had good luck drilling holes in concrete for transitions. My preferred method is to use pl3x to glue them down. Make sure not to put the glue right up against the flooring as expansion will cause bowing up of the floor. But glue is easier for me cause I can tweak the transition and use hot glue or weights to hold it down until pl3x dries. Hope that helps. Feel free to ask more questions if needed. Have a great day

I have carpet from my formal living room transitioning to ceramic tile in my hallway. Man the edge of this carpet in looking all frayed and tattered. I was wondering if i should try to add a transition piece that would cover the ragged edges of the carpet (my subfloor is concrete). I would appreciate your suggestion(s). hopefully my description was descript enough :) . if not ask me some questions so i can clarify. thanks
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR 2 года назад
Yeah may need a transition if you can't stretch the carpet back up close. Get a matching reducer and glue it down with urethane glue. Put a piece of tack strip about a 1/4 inch in front of the transition. Kick the carpet over the tack strip and tuck it in the 1/4 inch gap. Check out this video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GIb6NQMx0pA.html go to 6:17 and just imagine the laminate is your tile. It will show the set up I just explained. Only you'll have to glue your transition as it's on concrete. Btw if you wanna continue to spread the love as you learn, I also have a video on how to install transitions on concrete ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-odK48bSCVZE.html. Thanks for the question

Love your work. I'm going to have to disagree with where you placed the T-Molding. I would've bridged it across the door stop molding, it will look part of the door stop and central that way and you still get the same desired effect you state. 3:33

Why did you cut the part where you pin the carpet at the end...now, I can't use the video.
@christopherbrown8342
@christopherbrown8342 Год назад
This mean seem like a stupid question but what do you cut the u channel with? I did a test cut with a pair of aviation snips seem to work okay but seeing if you’re using a port a band
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR Год назад
Yeah I use a regular pair if tin snips. I just cut the thick part on both sides then just bend back and forth til it breaks. Hope that helps. Thanks for the question
@mrnobody2873

I have just about every weird complication on the door I'm doing. The carpet is really dense and I can't get the razor to penetrate to the backing plus the edge being cut was a previous seam to a different carpet so I also have a thick mess of glue to cut through. The adhesive for the transition was too big for my gun and the door sits on a 135 degree offset to the room resulting in planks that can't be lifted up for corrections after they lock in to place.

My goodness. It sounds like a lot of head scratching going on.

will this method work with Lifeproof Vinyl Plank flooring? I currently have carpet attached to the metal hammered strip but assume it will need to be replaced.
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR Год назад
It should work. Make sure the transition is lipped up and supported by the tack strip underneath. It you just try to set it on the carpet it will be to flexable.

hi, maybe i missed something. I'm going from laminate to carpet, I have the 5 in 1 molding. Should i use the t mold or reducer? Also, if my laminate and tile are the same height can i use the t mold? Thanks
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR 9 месяцев назад
This method is for when you don't have a reduce or you just prefer a ṭmold. Here's a video going from carpet to laminate using a reducer. Hope it helps. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GIb6NQMx0pA.html

You will have to glue your transition or use concrete anchors. Make sure to leave an expansion gap. Thanks for the question

My carpet is higher than the laminate flooring. What can I do in order to install T molding properly? Thank you
@YOUFLOOR

In this case I would recommend using a carpet or multipurpose reducer. Thanks for the question
@mayac2266
@mayac2266 Год назад
@@YOUFLOOR do you think I can use a narrow scrap pieces glue on to the edge of the planks to add height so the T molding can attach on to it?
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR Год назад
You wouldn't want to glue something I ng to you flooring as it can prevent it from expanding and contracting. Jusput a piece of tack strip under the carpet. Then lay the t mold on it and see if it feels sturdy or flexible. To much flex will make it break. Hope that helps
