Installing Amazon Alexa ~IN~ Your Ceiling

I decided to install an Amazon Alexa (aka an Echo Dot) in my ceiling and hook it up to some ceiling speakers I had. This made the device perform a lot better in my opinion and I thought it came out pretty good!
If you'd like to help support the channel, 😎pls check out: geni.us/tfreshchargers
Putting a smart speaker in the ceiling integrates the Amazon Alexa into your home/room and just makes the audio, the mic's ability to hear you clearly, and the overall experience of using Alexa that much better.

*It’s perfect for me. The size is exactly **Newest.Technology** what I needed. The sound is loud enough for me to hear without having to turn it higher. Suggestions on various uses is extremely helpful! Worth every dollar spent!*

like the features, setup was difficult for some of my devices (August Door lock, ru-vid.comUgkxhB5YOMNj04GuoAosExygP4cH-dKeb4aB Bose speaker)... but all switches and outlets (5), thermostat, tankless water heater. Unfortunately all I can do is turn on/off Bose. It doesn't support volume or changing channels, but I believe that is due to the particular speaker I have.... Worth getting if you already have other devices to use it with... I don't sit around and ask Alexa questions much so that doesn't really matter to me....

I like this idea. Nice to see it in action. I thought about ways of achieving this before but I would have to take all my floor boards up to install speakers. It gives the feeling that Alexa is all around you like in the Sci fi movies. My Echo kept setting off every time you said Alexa lol. Great job!

You really should mount that thing to the t-grid. They make hangers for it, it'd just be a matter of attaching the Echo to the hanger; look for "ceiling tile hangers", "t-grid hangers", or "drop-ceiling hangers". Which is what brought me here, I was looking to see if someone had mounted her using a proper mount.

@techfreshness
@techfreshness 5 лет назад
so i use philips hue, that comes with a control box you plug into your router, then you can control all the hue bubls directly, so in other words you can control it with alexa or your phone, since alexa will control that philips control box. alternatively you can get alexa/smartphone enabled wall switches and outlets, so that anything that plugs in or is connected to the wall switches can be controlled. does that make sense?

I did the same in my house, connecting the ceiling speaker to an amp then to Alexa. I have that setting for couple months already and I like it but the issue I run into is white noise. Because the speakers are powered all the time but nothing is playing thru them I get a white noise (tiny). Do you have any issues like that?
@techfreshness
@techfreshness 6 лет назад
hmm, i hadn't noticed too much, maybe turn your amp down and alexa up or the alexa volume down and amp up. or try new aux cable, do you have it running close to any electrical wires? your amp could maybe be noisey?

I remember not so long ago people saying a permanently turned on microphone is the most stupid thing ever because NSA and others could listen to everything. People obviously have learned nothing from the leaks en exposed information in the last year alone. @techfreshness
@techfreshness 6 лет назад
ha sweet. as far as the temp, well the nest just happens to able to respond to that specific command without needing any wierd prefix, unfortunately a lot of alexa enabled devices require those wierd prefixes as you know. its really just kind of hit or miss depending on the command/device comboination. usually if it requires some wierd prefix or syntax, i'll just not use that feature
@TheTinkerDad
@TheTinkerDad 6 лет назад
techfreshness I see, thanks. I'm mostly using Alexa with DIY devices, so I couldn't recognize the Nest device on the wall for the first glimpse. (It was visible in another video you've posted.) Let's say it's in progress - i have some motors and controllers to play around with, but i'm still looking for an intelligent platform to manage my devices through Alexa - I mean you can hook up basically anything to Home Assistant, then you can control Home Assistant's attached devices with Alexa, but apart from a few rare cases, you're limited to "Turn off this", "Turn on that". Sounds kinda weak for me, so i'm researching my own platform instead of home assistant, which would feature machine learning to automatize stuff, based on habits (like it records usually when you go to sleep, etc.) and sensor data (motion, light, temperature, etc)

@techfreshness

i don't think so, you really need a stove that has that functionality built in. if you think about how a stove works, you don't really turn it on and off like a light switch, so just 'plugging' it into a smartplug wouldn't really achieve what you are trying to do, plus could be a little dangerous
