Installing an Acrylic Shower Pan in a Mortar Bed 

Wow! You explained and showed how to do this project where I, a DIYer that has never put in a shower pan, can now jump in with both feet, literally😄 and get this project done with confidence!! The shipping box from the pan can be cut and used as a protective layer of cardboard while installing the shower.

How are you going to get your drain throat in at this point, since it wasn't already attached to the pan?

informative video. Thanks for taking the time to put this content together. Curious your thoughts on how to resolve... we just set an acrylic pan in type S mortar and did not bring it far enough out along the front edge, where the "dam" is. All is level and the sides and back are all set in mortar, but any weight on the front edge and the pan flexes. We have a small amount of access under the lip of the pan before the finished floor goes in; is it remotely reasonable to mix up another batch of mortar and use a piping bag to squeeze under the front edge? Using a ruler, there is ~1" between front lip and the existing mortar bed. Really appreciate your time and input. Thank you.

Can we set the mortar on top of a rubber shower pan liner?

On the dry fit, would you get it level and then mark the studs so you would know once you install whether it is pressed down enough? THanks for the video

I hear about using n type and s type mortar for under a shower base. i am putting the base on top of wood a pvc liner. Which mortar should i use?

I’ve never heard of waxed construction paper. Does it go by a different name? Why can’t you use roofing paper?

Do you mix sand with the type s morter?

All leveling is done before putting the mortar mix is spread. Self leveling mortar is the only way.

What was the brand of shower pan do you recall?

Thanks for this! I don't quite understand how the shims would work. If it's not level why wouldn't you just push the high side into the mortar more? And if you have to use a shim how does that work, do you actually pick the pan up out of the mortar then put a shim on top of the mortar. Wouldn't lifting it mess up the mortar base since you already jumped up and down to sink it in deep?
