Could it be that BYD has disabled that feature on the new version of the car multimedia management (version 1) ? I plugged my USB stick and it doesn't pop up so I accessed manually the USB drive and I tap on the apk file, got a message "don't install 3rd party app"
Oh yes! It-s fun to see some access to your own hardware. Like the Raspberry pi and esprssifs chips, when stuff gets used in unforeseen or creative ways, they become more interesting.
Wow - what a surprisingly open (password excepted) and responsive system you have in the BYD. Do the apps remain accessible whilst the vehicle is in motion? I'm thinking if for legal reasons (viewing video whilst driving being a no-no over here in the UK) they aren't?
Because these apps aren’t made for automotive use, they don’t have any restriction to prevent use while driving to my understanding. Think the rule you should apply is Don’t Be a Dickhead. Unfortunately requires some uncommon common sense
If it's just an android system anyway wouldn't it be possible to mute the startup/system sounds through android? Of course only if the android system handles those sounds...
Just taken a Seal excellence in the UK. Seems that perhaps a new 'patch' or update to software over here in Europe has prevented installation of APK. The car recognises the USB stick (symbol top right hand corner) but does not prompt for password or installation. And using a file explorer to click on the APK files prompt a warning message NOT to install any third party software. I wonder anyone in Europe / UK has any bright ideas?
thanks Paul. We have an Atto 3 with ota 1.7. It seems like we are unable to download and install any new apps into the OTA anymore. Can you provide some advice?
Really interested if you could download any of the "volume booster apps" to test what, the system handles. Right now we can conclude it does not use much of the 775w system. Seems, at least partly, software limited.
Hello, thank you for your sharing. I installed the APK files as you said to my BYD ATTO 3 my car. Some opened but some did not. For example, Yandex-Maps is opened, but applications such as Netflix and RU-vid Music give an error and close before opening. Google cannot load at all. Recently, a software update was made to my vehicle by the authorized service for some corrections. Installed Software version: 13.1.32.2310180.1 After this update we can no longer install apk files. :) They blocked this. Before the update, when the USB memory was inserted, the password screen would appear and we would type the password. This password request screen no longer appears. Do you have any comments or solution suggestions on this issue? Thank you from now.
Do you have the latest update from Nov installed? Reason for asking is because i heard the password changes from version to version. Also they want to lock the possibility to install apps via sideload.
In the android developer menu is it possible to disable animations completely I'm wondering if it will make it feel more snappy its normally the first thing i do on my phone
@@TallPaulTech Yes I think its the liquid cooling pump working... but in term of loudness, I think its okay, not that loud. But i was just charging at home using the granny charger.
@@wenhaochong7466 new firmware variants use a QR code based “BYD Auth” service - so not a hard coded password but a one-time-code based on car variables and byd cloud service. No known workaround (other than replacing aftermarket installer or sideloading certain apps BEFORE applying newest update)
Hi there, i love your enthusiasm in dissect this new car and show us what have behind the plastic. There is a new BYD software version, did you now? They erase and blocking third party installations, Byd is launching your own store with "certificates apps".
I wonder how secure BYD’s OTA update process is to a MITM attack ?. Perhaps I’m a little paranoid, however we seem to be accumulating a large number of devices in our homes that have encrypted traffic going to Chinese companies - which have a legal obligation to implement any changes required by the CCP for ‘national security’. The same CCP which has conducted cyber attacks on Australian government departments and private companies.
How it is asking password? And how to know the password? Or you set up the password for this usb card after formatting? Thanks for the answer… i have tried like this, but it didn’t open by itself and didn’t ask any passwords…
Can you add the Android play store on byd and get access to apps from within byd that way? Do the apps need to use your phone as a wifi hotspot while driving, away from home
Thanks for the great video! Re the BOM and http - I think it is intentional. Not all apps require encrypted connections, and of course, there's a cost in providing one.
That's crap. Certs are free or low cost for gov, and the gov is paid for anyway. Also, they have a server running https anyway, just to bounce you to http. It's bloody stupid.
Well, crap is a bit strong. Certbot requires regular renewal and setup. There is overhead. What do you see as the benefit to encrypting public BOM data?
I heard that one reason to use Http is to accommodate old/incompatible devices used by old people. Given weather is essential service, they want to reach as many people as possible.
Would we lose our car Warranty if we install third party apps??? I did the downgrade to the previous official BYD firmate update, installed All apps I wanted, and updates to latest OTA update. Everything os fine, however Today I went to BYD Málaga,Spain, and the seller made me think about this issue, ... nevertheless, I think amy engine issue, car parts issue etc should have a different Warranty, and infotainment another One . If your Seat, belt or a windows does not work properly, Warranty should cover those kind of issues independently if you installed third party apps or not... What do you think ?
@TallPaulTech well , nowadays BYD Seal or any BYD user with the newest BYD update cannot install any third app, we cannot access to the hiden option to enable permissions to do It, but, there is a way very easy for this porpuse , check Felipe Correa, youtuber, his vídeo slideload apps for byd seal explains how. It just consists of installing the previous official BYD update which allows to give permissions, so you install the apps you are intetested in and then, you update again to the newest OTA BYD update. So that, the logical thinking takes for granted that the "general" car Warranty should cover all car parts (Windows, door car, seats etc etc ) even if you installed RU-vid app or any third app...(If not it would be really crazy) Infotainment is one thing, and general car parts, other different. Besides, bearing in mind that we also are using the newest official BYD update...what's the problem?? we are of course using the latest BYD firmware, everything OEM as from factory. Despite of being in the latest BYD update, the installed third apps work fine. In addition to this ...we have always used official BYD updates. That all. The warranty would cover everything.
Some commenters on here are saying that method of installing apps no longer works on newer versions. If that's the case, I'm going to go off about this in future.
It seems the new 2041 seal version has changed file structure and the security password question is not there any more when you load a USB with the correct file structure. this makes the files imposible to load .. any ideas on that will be appreciated .
Hello! Is it possible to install a navigation application, for example Waze? I'm asking because you should see the GPS antenna and the mobile network there.
