In this episode, we replace our old 13.5k btu rv air conditioner with a new Coleman Mach 15 15000btu RV air conditioner. It is the same install as for a 13.5k air conditioner. Follow as we walk you through the step by step process of replacing an RV a/c.
We are a couple that have decided to semi-retire early and enjoy travel and adventure while we are still able. Follow us as we prepare for our new life, selling off our home and stuff, and prepare our rig "Herbie" for full time living.
Visit us at www.pensacolarules.com and on Facebook @PensacolaRules.
Support us for free by using our link to go to Amazon. You'll get the same great prices, and we will recieve a small percentage for referring you! The link is: amzn.to/2DDq9Qh
Stuff we recommend:
• Insignia 3.2 L Air Fryer
(We cook everything from fries to chicken breasts to egg rolls, LOVE THIS THING!) amzn.to/2FJvJ5b
• Movo LV1 Lavalier Lapel Clip-on Omnidirectional Microphone (if you are doing videos with your phone, this is a must have!!)amzn.to/2Th8LpP
• Living the RV Life: Your Ultimate Guide to Life on the Road (I don't carry many actual books with us, but the beautiful pictures and incredible stories in this makes it worth the weight!! Great job, Marc & Julie Bennett!!) amzn.to/2CMaNr3
• EverStrong Camper RV Decal Sticker For RV (Great for displaying on your rig where all you have traveled, beautiful colorful stickers) amzn.to/2TiTcOk
• Coleman Airxcel Mach 15 15000 btu RV Air Conditioner Arctic White (We have two AC's, but wanted one really strong one when we only have access to 30 amps. Only a little more for a lot more performance...and easy install!!) amzn.to/2TcvQKs
• Viair 40047 400P-RV Automatic Portable Compressor Kit (This is a quality compressor that I bought when I realized that finding gas station air that will do 100 psi will be about impossible!) amzn.to/2FRrYeD
• Maxx Air 0004500K Maxxair Corp 00-04500K Maxxfan Plus Vent 14" 12V (Critical to boondocking, we decided to get the strongest vent fan available. We have a cover for it so we can use it in inclement weather. Love the two lift arms, our old one only had one and failed miserably!) amzn.to/2S2OZkL
• Xaestival 15.5ft EN131 Upgrade Telescoping Ladder (I weigh 280 lbs and have a healthy fear of heights!! Wanted something sturdy and tall enough to reach over the top of my rig so I had something to hold onto while getting on and off the ladder. Great find!!) amzn.to/2WptGt1

Thanks!! I was telling a friend yesterday that I should have done more of these how-to videos, but when I go to do a project I just want to get it done, not waste time trying to record it. Having said that, I know how often I have turned to these videos for help. Thanks for the kind words!

Thank you! I plan to order my own and install. Local RV shop quoted me $975 parts and labor. I replaced my own converter last year with about this much ease and saved $250.

Thank you! We haven't been doing videos for a bit as we have been busy moving full-time into our RV, getting our house sold, and adjusting to our new life! I hope to have new videos out soon, I have a water pump that is going to be installed here shortly and I will show how I do that as well!

We replaced ours today. It blows my mind that there's only 4 screws holding that thing down, but I'm not going to complain. I do need to figure out some kind of ramp system to get it up to the top next time though (when we replace the back one, only replaced our front 13.5 with this 15 this time). Used pulleys this time, which wasn't too bad, but still sucked when we got it to the top of the ladder.
@pensacolarules4228
@pensacolarules4228 2 года назад
I imagined using a couple of 2x6's as ramps, but my brother in law that helped said we should be able to rope it up, which we did. However, if I were to do it again, I would leave it in the shipping crate to avoid any chance of damaging the unit. Congrats on your install!!

Great. We upgraded ours for the very situation we are in now, we are hooked up to 30 amps and really can't run both A/C's, but we are able to run the larger 15k unit we installed. It is just keeping up. Glad it was useful!!

Did it mot come with a new circuit board (that white box that the thermostat wires and power goes too?
@pensacolarules4228
@pensacolarules4228 3 года назад
No, I think you may have a different or newer a/c. In mine, there is a galvanized box that the wires go to, but there is no circuit board in it, just a junction box for the wires. That box did not come with the new unit.
@johnnorman8424
@johnnorman8424 4 года назад
The electrical box you took off with the wing nuts, is that common in all a/c's when you put the new unit on?
@pensacolarules4228
@pensacolarules4228 4 года назад
I don't think so...I think some newer versions may have these mounted elsewhere, but of course I am only familiar with the one I installed and my rig is 17 years old. I think I saw different set-ups on some of the videos I looked at before taking this on. You might look at some other videos for other configurations.

Thank you for this video! I do have one question, did you use any kind of sealants/caulks around the square opening on the roof when placing the new unit? Or is there some sort of foam/gasket there? Thank you again.
@marcfitzroy

Mine came with a foam gasket. Other than that, I did not use any caulk. Even the screws on the cover would only leak down into the drain pan. Safe travels!

Got it. Turns out that ours is so old(15 years old) that we also would have to get a new thermostat and control box. Also the ceiling assembly is separate. At least installing looks easy. Another question: Can we reuse the same wiring for the thermostat from the old one?
@marcfitzroy
@marcfitzroy Месяц назад
@@TheMegamanDX Should be able to, even if you change the thermostat out, wires are wires. Just need to double check and make sure the right wire goes to the right function.

Hi, I have a Coleman Model No. 7335B891 that needs replacing. I plugged in my model into coleman/airxcels compatibility chart. Only one "compatible" model popped up; Mach 15. When i click on it, it says NOT A DIRECT REPLACEMENT. NEED CEILING ASSEMBLY. Doesn't it come with a ceiling assembly?
@pensacolarules4228
@pensacolarules4228 4 года назад
Shawn, I am by no means an ac expert, just a full timer that installed my ac in my rig. However, I think the interior vent or control is sold separately. I know mine did not come with one.

You say that you live in it full time. So do I. Is it ok to leave the bedroom AC running 24/7 on a medium level. I have the old knobs. Asking bc I get worried about running it 24/7 and burning out the AC unit. The rv is I my 2 yrs old. Please help me understand the best way I should go bc the rv stays hot I side with only running one of the units
@pensacolarules4228
@pensacolarules4228 2 года назад
Ronnie, I am not an RV or HVAC person. I would recommend calling an RV repair person. I would believe that you will eventually burn out the bearing running it non-stop. Your best bet would be to try to move it into shade, or consider putting a cheap window unit in the bedroom and give your AC a break at night. Or do like we do and move north in the summer! 😏
@titantrucker

@pensacolarules4228

They usually come with the gasket. The only extras you would have would be the interior cover panel if you needed one, or a heater if you wanted one. Thanks!!

I am not familiar with the DuoTherm, but I'm sure someone has an adapter. The hole is probably the same, and you might just need a wiring adapter if I had to guess. Sorry I'm not more help.

@@pensacolarules4228 After more research, I learned if putting dometic in an rv that used to have coleman, all you need is the wire plug adapter, but if putting coleman in an rv that had anything else, you have to replace the lower control board and T-Stat. Coleman will not interface with dometc style . SO I have to replace the entire system

Actually, we have never lived in Pensacola...LOL!! While I did live in Panama City from age 5 to 12 (Air Force Kid), Pensacola Rules was a concept my wife and I developed before we were married on a Christmas trip to Pensacola. We learned how to live spontaneously when things go awry during that trip. Thereafter, any time things weren't going to plan or we changed our minds and priorities mid-stream, we declare "Pensacola Rules" and go with the flow. We are, however, developing an acre of property south of Perry Florida that we bought, turning it into a winter home base for us! Take care and stay safe!!
