Wow I just found your channel but this is insanely cool! Makes me want to get back into engineering so I can learn how to do stuff like this. Ive been watching you generator videos. Much better setup than just buying a Generac standby or a cummins.
@@nics-systems-electricHello Nick great video really informative. I have a project that i have to shut of the fan in a server room. I have installed the fire alarm. The fan have a current of 230V coming from the distribution board. Can you tell me a way to do it thru relays. Thank you
back when I was younger, I worked in a rest home as a NRNA, and we had a large storm during the day, and a power failure one time, and the backup gen didn't kick in. it was aery hearing the alarms going off, being in relative darkness, and the fire doors rhythmically slamming shut. the Maint man was pulling his hair out trying to get the backup going. it was an older facility, probably built in the 1950's. and they had a backup gen. probably of the same era ,that was really persnickety sometimes. I went past it many years later and it is now an Alzheimer's.facility.I assume they did some major upgrades since I worked there.
Commercial smoke detectors are better because I think they work better, also I learned that they don't make noise themselves like residential ones do. I wish I had a commercial fire alarm system, but that would be too much work.
Your videos are great it give people a grater appreciation it seems as to how much effort it takes to design fire alarm I have a friend who is a fire protection engineer he is on a code committee in another country he does not have time to make videos explain how the systems work the way you did
Can't really get a smaller magnet the door closer is on its lowest power setting so it's not too bad door will hopefully eventually be replaced with something heavier
@@nics-systems-electric yeah be cool to see you put a fire door there.. maybe even a metal frame and some panic hardware? You did mention in another video that you plan to move downstairs.. where you thinking something like your own apartment down there since it has its own kitchen and such?
@@RossTheGenMan it would be hard to do a metal frame as these doors are hung right into the framework of the wall they are not a prehung door but you could install a heavier door I do now live in the basement yes
Do you have a link to the duct that you used. Similar duct we use in Aus dosent hinge and dosnt have that doubled sided tape on it, that stuff that youre using looks so much easier to install.
Great Job!!! Nic you will help your generation get better @ saving others You could have ran a low voltage supervised output off that fire panel 24VDC is safer in the long run
Thank you. The problem with using an output of the system is you are then increasing your battery demand. When there is no point of having a supervised output because it's a fail safe device so it doesn't make it any safer.
@@nics-systems-electricOh Contre!!! Nic current limited devices and voltages are inherently safe !!! And I'm sure you had . 015 amps in the power budget
@@thinkIndependent2024 The breaker is a current limiting device with wire sized appropriately there isn't a problem. The problem with running it off your panel is one short circuit instead of tripping a resettable breaker can kill your whole entire fire alarm system depending what you power it off of.
@@nics-systems-electric Still me Nic, You respond before actually thinking!! The term: "Inherently Safe" has a meaning that is not the same as "convenient " the term actually has legal significance with technical roots
@@davidjackson7887 yes I am aware. That's a pretty rude comment to say that someone doesn't think before they speak when you have no way of knowing if I thought about something or not when of course I think to answer comments. there is no problem with this install it is done to code and the same as almost every other install and is completely safe.
Hell Nick great video really informative. I have a project that i have to shut of the fan in a server room. I have installed the fire alarm. The fan have a current of 230V coming from the distribution board. Can you tell me a way to do it thru relays. Thank you
Anchors are their own thing that widen when the screw is installed zip it self thread in to the wall and then don't get any wider once a fastener is installed
@@ministrygreene2556 I won't be setting off either real system those ones aren't one that get messed around with. I will be doing a demo system with a bunch of devices
Yes it will. The door holder latches to the door via magnet. When you give it power it will latch on when there's no power it will not latch. So when there is a power outage the magnet will loose its power therefor letting go of the door.
I WAS try to do more research and may be you can tell me if you agree with this : it seems after doing more research it seem the conclusion is that it's possible the way codes are used in a commercial application may not match the same way alarm s are meant to be used in the home sound right ? Thoughts please thank you
@@nics-systems-electric thank you so your advice to me would be install my smoke alarm follwing the instructions provided by the alarm is that correct thank you ????
@@nics-systems-electric I'm not an electrician but do bits around the house and I'm always super jumpy about using none-VDE tools - even when I KNOW the circuit is off/LOTO'd. I saw your linemans and wondered. Love your work - keep it up! 👍😊
@@Rainbowhockey even the non-insulated tools usually are still insulated if you just hold them in the right place lol just not actually tested and listed for it
Here a question maybe you know my screws I have here I am getting ready to install smoke alarms it say I have drywall screws should it work in plaster interchangeably thoughts please thank you
@@nics-systems-electric putting that much effort into a commercial grade fire alarm system in a residential setting, you might as well go all the way and have actual fire suppression systems and use fireproof doors
It's nothing to do with the duct detector specifically any alarm condition will shut it down unless it was to be programmed for specific devices. it resets as soon as the system is reset the relay module will go back to normal operation.
With my school we have fire doors to the stair wells top and bottom and the classrooms have door holder/ closer but the dumb thing is the classroom door aren’t fire rated
@@nics-systems-electric I know we don’t have smokes in classrooms they don’t have any strobes out side they have exit signs some black combos some led some white some gray and black the fire alarm system was installed 2004 the 2023 in spation says it has 9 more years it’s simplex it’s wonky
@@nics-systems-electric i MEAN WHAT IF THE DOOR IS NOT FULLY OPEN ONLY HALF THE ALARM IS STILL WORK IF NOT WHAT IS THE ALTERNATIVE DEVICE TO USE IN THAT SITUATION
Hi Nick got a question for you I don't know if you will no the answer but thought I would ask the question just in case you do I was talking to an engineer he thinks the reason that a smoke alarm i sae was installed on a side wall above a door way even though the cieling seemed to be 20 feet above the alarm is that if the alarm goes of it would shut the which seemed to go to a hall way that had the standard 8-10 foot ceiling? Thoughts please thank you?
so that might explain than why the alarm was right over the doorway I think it was panic bar door but the celing still seemed 20 feet high so I guess the final answer is while that might be ok for commerical application in my home I should still follow the fire alarm code directions which state the lowest the top of the alarm can be is 12 inches from the ceiling does that yeah my local codes says the top of the alarm is to be 12 inches you are in a different country from me so I dont understand the difference but again I will say maybe this thing I say was right for a commerical property but your advice would be to follw the direction which came with my smoke alarm which will be based on the local code of the country is that correct thank you !
Not airtight but still makes a huge difference same reason it said that it's a good idea to keep your bedroom doors closed at night even though those aren't airtight either
