Looks interesting, except that their current pricing is against consumer regulations. Pricing should be obvious and clear. Freeish is incredibly vague.
I think companies would have needed license to "profit" from any product they sell that have Google's play Store. Did FydeOS developer pay something to Google?
I am going to be a devil advocate and say it's not, because it has a 90 days security patch cycle, which is great if you want to use an unsupported device, 15 per year is barely 1.5 dollars per month , for a device that can give life to otherwise useless devices.
You can install the community edition that is Free, the ones that have subscription are the for you versions that are made for specific devices ( for example all the surface devices) and the enterprise versions, but they have advantages, for example... Support from fyde os
I tried both chrome os flex and fyde os, in my opinion fyde os is much better than chrome os flex as it supports dual boot. I am having a issue with both chrome os flex and fyde os, both of these os don’t detect my wired headset.
I have always really liked chrome os (or chrome os derivatives) for hardware with minimal resources. Hopefully there's an update to Fyde to include the newer features like you mentioned! I am always seeking portable hardware
Wait they charge you for a version of Chrome OS and you don't even get the latest build? That's pretty brutal. Also doesn't normal chrome OS support android apps? You are acting like it's a selling point of this version but I thought that had been baked into the OS for several years now.
The version of Chrome OS you can install on any device is called Flex and it does not support Android apps. It also would not have Surface hardware working out of the box. Strong opinions should be based on facts 😬
@@scaryifliteral I didn't express an opinion I asked questions and opinions never require being based on facts. Opinions are about feelings. Objectivity versus subjectivity.
Great video! And a great option for the Surface go line. I tried this with my Surface go 2 and found out that when I tried to play x265 (HEVC) filed it couldn't do this well. Something about a missing codec, I tried to fix this but didn't manage. On windows 11 this file format played great with hardware decoding. Is this working on yours? Finally I installed Blissos and it's working really great on my Surface Go🙂
How well does this dual boot? I wonder if it saves more battery. With my Asus X13, my GTX1650 GPU would kill the battery life. But if it uses the iGPU, this could be an awesome way to minimize the bloat and background waste of Windows.
I ran FydeOS on my Surface Go 3 for the majority of my time owning it. I wish either Google or Fyde would make a Dolby Atmos-Type app. The sound on Windows devices with Chrome OS installed on them is subpar at best.
Free-ish means that when there's a major update (like FydeOS 16 to 17 or 17 to 18) you will have to pay like a $2 fee to update and keep your files. Otherwise you have to reinstall it from scratch. So you can actually keep it free, it will just be more of a hassle, but doable 🙂
Chromium os is Linux it wouldn't be an all new os at full entirely chrome os is part Linux half android but android stuff can't interact with Linux stuff nor can Linux stuff associate with android stuff strange how it is cuz its the same os but yh
Can somebody PLEASE install FydeOS on Surface Go 4? Such a beautiful amazing tablet and really fast, but Windows 11 is not my preferred OS. Can somebody please test FydeOS on this particular tablet and upload video to show what works and what does not
Do a vid using ok Google on this play a song with phrase play which ever song you can think of and try Math question like what is 20+10 other stuff too Let us know how good is it on a computer oh and nice review by the way I love it
Yea i installed this on one of my pcs and it did not work well not only did the google play store not work but the experience was just bad. Every time I would try to get the google play store to work all it would do is give me a error each time. I ended up Uninstalling it 🤷🏾♂️ ion
really interesting! I've got an original Surface Go (Pentium 4415Y-1.6GHz, 8GB RAM, 128GB). Its getting pretty slow. I wonder how FydeOS would work on mine and if the 8gb of ram would bring that old processor along. It's also got it's own internet. I'm wondering if fydeOS supports that or if that would mess with my carrier's support. Would be amazing if that was the case. I've been using ChromeOS more exclusively with a work laptop. Would love to make the switch and have that tablet functionality/mobility. I don't know of any ChromeOS tablets with at least 4G capabilities and 8gb of RAM. I wish the new Duet 3 had 4G or 5G capabilities.
This is funny cause I was looking for something like this for my 3 like two days ago because it was becoming so so so slow lol. I did find a fix on windows though for performance. I deleted the page file and set it to no longer create a virtual memory page file and now it's working much better.
Hey Shane, you can easily change to dark mode within the RU-vid app, you just have to go into your Google settings icon in the app and change it to dark mode.
Great concept but I'm not sold with the subscription pricing. Linux + linux-surface kernel gives you much greater functionality and a similar extension in battery life for free.
I have an old surface go 1, that mainly go unused becaus of the low batteri life (1-1.5 hrs atm with win 10). Would this work with it? Last time i tried to swap operating system, the webcam turned unusable.
I see the version for my surface go is $15 a year but is it because it includes all the touch screen goodies? What about if I get the free version of fyde and manually install the touch screen goodies? And is there any other rooms that compare fairly well for the surface go 1824?
This didn’t work very well with my old Chuwi HiBook Pro. WiFi mostly didn’t work; had to connect to my phone rather than home WiFi, neither touch nor auto rotate work either. Will probably just go with Chrome Flex.
Being in IT, I am always very skeptical of custom ROMs/ISO/OS modification that is not done or approved by the OS provider. Any redflags you could possible spot? This would go nice with a Celeron 4G RAM/64 GB storage Asus I have, Windows is simply no longer optimal to use on it.
I would say the most concerning thing is that they say they're in Europe and other people say they are in China. Not really sure what's going on there or what affiliation they have.
@@scaryifliteral Firstly, FydeOS shares its roots with ChromeOS, both stemming from The Chromium Project's open-source Chromium OS. This relationship is analogous to how the open-source Chromium browser relates to Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. Secondly, as a company based in both London and China, we prioritize data privacy. Starting from 1st August 2023, we will physically separate data between geolocations, eliminating any intercommunication. @@scaryifliteraltheir TOS and such says they’re in the UK. So I would trust that over random people saying they’re in China. Two things to mention that I’m not sure were in this video. 1st you can run the os directly off a usb drive to test it out before even installing it to your internal drive. 2nd you don’t need to even initially use your Google accounts and can just run a local user if you are concerned at all about security.
You can run fydeos off the usb drive you don’t even need to install it to your internal storage. Just run it off your usb initially and give it a try. If you like it then install it. If you don’t just reformat your usb drive and no harm no foul.
Wow this is amazing. Do you think there is a way to install it along with windows at the same time? I might be day dreaming but I would like a machine where I could choose to either log in to android or to windows? 😂
Hmm i may try putting a gnome based distro on my surface pro 7 which is decently built at least spec wise for a pro 7. Main reason i been putting it off is cuz i didnt have a flash drive on deck but i just ordered one. I have read a bit that windows update deletes linux distro tho
I wonder how well Microsofr Edge would work on this. If this thing made by some random indie team made even Android apps fly on hardware like Surface Go, I'm pretty hopeful for Windows 12/vNext Core PC lightweight OS thing.
You flash it to a usb drive. Then you boot into it from the usb drive. From there you can either run the installer to flash it to the internal storage or just run it off the usb drive. It’s pretty intuitive when you do it.
Wow, I have been thinking about trying another OS on my Go3. I've tried Ubuntu and it ran OK, but went back to Windows. On FydeOS do the cameras work? I could not get front or rear working on Ubuntu. Does Fyde have the Linux Container like ChromeOS? Thanks.
Glad to hear you're considering FydeOS for your Go3! Yes, the cameras on the Go3 work seamlessly with FydeOS. Also, just like ChromeOS, we provide the Linux Container. Give it a try and let us know your experience!
I install it, it shows to turn off pc and remove media device, after doind these steps and booting pc it shows no bootable drive, do anyone had this problem and have solution?
Check in your bios to see if secure boot is enabled. If it is, disable, if it is already disabled, disable uefi and use legacy. Hopefully this helps you.
hi shane i installed this in on my surface go. now i need to revert it back to windows so that i can sell my surface. how do i go about doing that? do you have a tutorial? i need some help
I downloaded and installed this but what i have looks totally different. Are you using a launcher? Or did i install a different version? I used the surface go 2 version
