Installing Laminate At The Front Door
In this video, we are installing laminate at the front door. I take you on the job with me and explain the cuts I use to get the floor perfectly at the front door including expansion gaps and how the finished trim will be installed. You may have to do this at the front door or back door - really any exterior door you may have. Thanks for being here with me! Hope you enjoy!

I like using a Diablo carbide blade wood/nail for the door jam. Doesn't dull for awhile.

What if your room the long wall is opposite of the front door? So if I start at the long part of the room and come down the door would be on a different wall not directly across. So the boards are not going to be parallel to the door? They will be coming perpendicular to the front door?

Go to 5:45 in the video. I talk a little about that. If you can slide the material under the threshold and back it out a little so that it is still under but still has expansion. Then, you can use shoe mold to trim out the backside of the treashold. I nail right into the plastic and silicone it up for water. If your threshold goes all the way to the ground and you can't get the material under, then run it up to the treashold and leave an expansion gap on every plank seal it up with silicone and trim the threshold with 1/4 round. Hope that helps. If not, send me some pics, and we'll get it figures out

Thanks so much for explaining all the different methods! How do you cover or fill the expansion gap between the flooring and the front door? Do you place a split t-molding over it or cover it with a door threshold?

ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jAt0wefIgyw.html check out this video. You can fast forward but I go over that issue in this video. Quick answer is you can you a t mold or reducer. And if the threshold is high enuff , I just use 1/4 round. Hope that helps. Thanks for the question

Thank you for the video. I'm doing wood laminate around the doorways only, basically a small 3x4 square. Carpeting will butt up to it from there. Do you think I should glue the laminate flooring down in the corners to stop it from moving? Any tips would be appreciated,thank you!

No. You want the laminate to be able to move for expansion. I would use a Carpet reducer around the laminate then tacknstrip To tuck the carpet into. Leave about a 1/4 inch to 3/16th gap between your transition and tack strip. Kick the carpet over the tack strip and tuck in between the gap. If on concrete, you'll have to glue the transition and use concrete tack strip or use concrete nails. A zbar may help as well. Hope that helps. Let me know if you need more details. This is a bit off topic, but have you ever seen or installed laminate or vinyl plank on a ceiling? Thanks!

Well honestly I have seen it done. And as a 14 year installer who was taught " DO NOT NAIL DOWN LAMINATE" I don't understand how it doesn't buckle. I hired a guy to do an install and he nailed the whole perimeter down. 2 weeks later I had to replace the whole floor. It buckled and started peaking at almost every seam. But then I've nailed down engineered wood and hardwood and always wondered. Why doesn't it buckle? Well I take that back . I have seen hardwood cup and peak . I would say if your in a place that stays the same room temperature constantly. And you acclimated the material. And you live in an area where it doesn't go from a lot of moisture to real dry. It could work. I would just like to see one of these diy ceilings after a year. Some would probably look the same. Some would be in bad shape. Lvp would probably work as it doesn't expand like laminate or wood. But I would nail the heck out of it. I saw where they make a clip for this purpose. Hope that helps sorry for the long answer. Thanks for the question

Oh my gosh. I just installed flooring 4 days ago 😭😭 I did it vertical way (other way than yours) wanted it to be all uniform length so I flushed it against the exterior door with no room for expansion. Do you think it’ll create big problem? Also I glued those pieces to the floor 😳 since I didn’t it to some how come off ?
@YOUFLOOR

As long as you left expansion gap on the rest of the perimeter it should do what it does. I would just keep and eye on the pieces you glued down. It might be OK but like I said just keep an eye on it. Thanks for the question
