It's taken me a bit to get this video done because I tried my hardest to do this right the first time and i honestly think I did very well for the first ever full pan install without using a lap weld. Hope this helps you out as well!

Find a heavy piece of copper and use it as a backer behind the gaps. The weld will not stick to it (because it's copper) and it makes kind of a mold for the molten wire coming out of the welder. It will also hold the shielding gas in the weld area and keep it from escaping thru the gap. I got some pieces of bus bar from a high voltage switch. They are like 3/4" thick. They also help absorb the heat so you don't blow thru the thin panels. If you don't have access to scrap copper, Eastwood sells tools for this purpose . ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-huPdLOIA438.html www.eastwood.com/welders-helper-3x3-set-flat-curve-anglecop-plates.html?SRCCODE=PLA00020&gclid=CjwKCAjwp7baBRBIEiwAPtjwxI2pMRCTjuC28jwI8_-YdQPIU88FcOfnxpATBKaShwiXPpyQtNoW8xoCif0QAvD_BwE

Hey the best way to put in the pan is place in the new one over the old one screw it down and make one cut around and the use panel butt clamps to get it ready for welding

If you put the new panel on top of the old floor that needs to be cut out. Put a few self tappers in and cut through both panels at the same time. You have the perfect fit first try

Nice job on the floor man, I just overlapped mine, wedded them in and then did 3 coats of bed liner, didn't grind down my welds hardly at all lol doesn't look the best but I just didn't want to spend that kind of time when the rest of the truck is so dented and beat, and I figured if it bugged me enough Ill just get a mat.

I like how he did it put alot of detail into it my passenger side has a big hole and the seam near the door kick panel is rusted through in some places I might just overlap as well since I will be welding with a Harbor frieght flux welder . If not I pay a guy to do it for me . The previous owner bolted a street sign underneath too funny
@HiltsyAdventure
@HiltsyAdventure 6 лет назад
At least it was a street sign, mine was just some radome sheet metal screwed to the floor. I think I show it in my floor video.
@the_fomoco_man5160
@the_fomoco_man5160 6 лет назад
For your 1st attempt at replacing a floor you did excellent 😁. For future reference you'd be better off using thinner wire when welding sheet metal, .022-.025 wire work's better than the thicker .035. Your welds won't be as proud and less burn thru. Great job again dude.
@calvinhandley2373
@calvinhandley2373 6 лет назад
74F100 Shortbed there's also silicone bronze brazing wire, but you need to run pure argon. But I agree, Craig did a great job taking his time with that .035 wire.

if you can get some smaller welding rods, you can break the outer layer off and bend them to fit then weld in the rods. super easy way to help fill those gaps up.

I would suggest using a rust encapsulator (Eastwood makes one) on the enclosed (inside the toe/kick panel area, enclosed frame sections, etc.) areas to stop and prevent further rusting.
