I hate doing this. You think I'd be good at it after the first few times but I always have to look it back up

Looking to do this on my new-to-me project '79 Camaro with a 350. I think this'll get me right to where I want. I have a knocking in the driver side valve cover that I'm trying to resolve. I'm extremely new and ignorant of most things I'm looking at as of now. I'll be chomping on your other videos soon. If you've got any potential insight on the knockin, even tho it's a long shot, I'd appreciate hearing it. We think it might be a stuck lifter, but I know we didn't set the lash the right way either yet.

in my case, when cylinder 1 is TDC on compression stroke, the lifter for the intake valve on cylinder 6 is down, but yours is up. any ideas why?

So basically you tighten the bolt the same exact way for all of them? You just do it in a certain order?

Rocker pivot balls. Rounded side goes down and the flat side goes to the nut, correct?
@TheBurnoutShow

I just used the nuts that my rocker arms came with. I’ve got limited budget lol.

Am I missing something ? 🤔 Why wouldn't you set both valves while it's on TDC ? And then turn the engine 90° and set the next cylinder in the firing order ? And that way you only have to turn the Engine over 8 times. I've been doing it like that for a long time. 🤷

Hello Sir, could you please tell me, if it‘s possible to do this work on the video with installed intake manifold?
@stevetakacs849
@stevetakacs849 8 месяцев назад
Thats one way , but mine s a lot simpler.

👍
@jimmymcbeth7732
@jimmymcbeth7732 5 месяцев назад
It can be done by only rotating the Engine 8 times. By going by the firing order and setting both valves on that particular cylinder. 🤔
@jaredwilmarth662
@jaredwilmarth662 Месяц назад
The other way requires alot of turning and tuning- but not in firing order..

Can this be done with the Intake still installed?
@TheBurnoutShow
@TheBurnoutShow 8 месяцев назад
Yes, it can be a little bit trickier though. You just have to be careful and make sure that the push rods are actually seating properly.
@jessetoronto
@jessetoronto 8 месяцев назад
Got it. And the idea for zero lash is right when the rod has no up/down wiggle? Should you be able to still spin them a bit or should that be gone as well?@@TheBurnoutShow
@TheBurnoutShow
@TheBurnoutShow 8 месяцев назад
There should still be a bit of spin on them as shown in the video.

@TheBurnoutShow just the way you tried to describe what to do. I've been a licensed tech for 25 years. I know what you were trying to do but if someone was a beginner, they would be completely lost. There are much easier ways to do this.
@TheBurnoutShow
@TheBurnoutShow 3 месяца назад
@Nathan-bz8zt that’s okay, I’ve had a lot of comments saying that it’s actually very clear and easy to follow. Thanks for your feedback though.

what did you torque the stud to? 25lbs. is it the same for cast iron. thanks good vid
@jimmymcbeth7732
@jimmymcbeth7732 5 месяцев назад
You don't torque the nuts. You're simply talking the Lash out of the rockers and preloading the lifters. Turn the nut until you can't feel any slack or up and down movement in the rocker tip and then Turn the nut an additional 3/4 turn.
