Exactly what I needed to see. Many thanks! And I think I'll mix my two boxes because of your video.

Should undercut the door jam and also use a speed square

Looks good. I'm about to install this product in a master closet and am watching a few videos. I saw on the official Stainmaster video they recommend mixing planks from different boxes just like you would with hardwood flooring. That'll avoid the blocks of differing colors between boxes. Thanks for the video.

Ok…a couple things. Always use a rubber mallet to gently tap the pieces down otherwise they won’t get completely down uniformly. Also, use a piece of scrap plank to put on the edge and use to tap the piece into place with a rubber mallet so there are no spaces between the rows. And use an underlayment! I know some brands say don’t use one but you really want to use one for a vapor barrier and sound dampening.

why did you place all the small cuts in the door entrance when you should of put them on the other side where less traffic is and would look better

As another reader notices he did not use nor even mention underlayment. I'm installing on basement slab and saw strong recommendation to use underlayment for both vapor travel and leveling of imperfections like trowel marks in the slab. I did some leveling and sanding and vacuumed repeatedly to eliminate bits and crumbs. I'm having the fight of my life trying to keep prior planks fixed while I'm installing the next piece. I think the underlayment is causing enough disturbance to keep loosening the whole floor. I'm trying to follow other instructions to install first the short end and then the long side joints of each piece. This guy does several ends, before doing the long joint all together. I've done a couple of pieces simultaneously but again, the underlayment fights back because it's pliable. Now I wonder whether repeated attempts has ruined the grooves in the product. At the end he notices the difference in "tone" . I noticed the same range and unlike some products there is the typical range of color within one box, but also a noticeable difference between boxes. One is tan, the next is gray. So, as recommended in the instructions, mix the boxes so you have a random mix instead of one end of the room tan and the other end gray. I'm trying to be so careful, so I resent the fact that this guy got a good fit, without considering basic stuff like figuring the width of the room (he was lucky it came out even number of planks), not using a metal straightedge, no true square, no shims at the walls to position the pieces, and he didn't wear kneepads (ya he's young, and the floor is plywood). This video will shield you from the hazards you may encounter in your own job. Just my opinion. He was both naive and lucky.

Hi, I just watched your video! I am about to install this exact floor in my bathroom. How much of gap did u leave along the wall?
@BrickBuildingKids
@BrickBuildingKids 5 лет назад
Hi! Thanks for watching! Love this floor, hope you like it. We tried to keep it less than 1/4 inch. Some spots I didn’t leave even that much. The floor molding nicely overlapped it if you over cut it by a little. Depending on how big your area is, make sure and mix up some pieces from the other boxes. Have fun!!

Great video. Im wondering why didn't you use underlayment? It's an extra .40 to .60 cents a square foot, but I heard it's worth it. Makes it more sound proof and water proof? Or do you really not need it?
@BrickBuildingKids
@BrickBuildingKids 5 лет назад
*Des * in the bathroom, I didn’t want the underlayment for a few reasons. I had it in a bathroom before and some water got between it and you could sometimes hear a squishing. I would do it with harder wood planks but I did want the flexibility in the floor in the bathroom.

I am about to possibly use the same stuff for a tattoo shop. I noticed when you added the next row of panels you just started with the last cut piece. Wouldn’t this cause a very odd pattern the wood? Meaning the overlapping pieces would always not be even? Maybe it’s not a concern since it’s a small bathroom or maybe it’s the same offset since each row is the same width?
@BrickBuildingKids
@BrickBuildingKids 5 лет назад
Depending on your room, I would agree it could be a concern. My method is a way to minimize scrap. If you wanted to keep a pattern you would want to start your second row in half the length, and just alternate. It is your canvas. I hope this helps. If you need anything else, let me know.

Amy Guo you are totally right. We make a lot of LEGO videos and we use it in them. I must have copied my links from one of those videos.

What holds the floor down? I bought the exact kind and I thought i had to peel a sticker and stick it to the floor. Lol but there is nothing
@BrickBuildingKids

Just gravity, weight of all the pieces and the pieces locking themselves together. It has held up very nicely!

Snug fit? Isnt there supposed to be a 1/4th inch gap along the walls to allow for expansion? Shouldve read the box i guess.

You do not need a gap with luxury vinyl because it expands very little.
@bezumiye9470

He totally skipped over floor prep, perimeter spacing to allow for expansion/contraction, and why it doesn’t require underpayment!
@dmnash100

Under payment is right! You must have meant “underlayment”. The underpayment was not having someone knowledgeable do the job.
