The primary chain is on, and now it's time to reinstall the clutch plates and put the clutch back together!

Great job!! I just adjusted my clutch on my 2005 fatboy last week. I just did a 1/2 turn. friction zone is a little to close to the bar....I like it all the way out at the perch! gotta do it again this sat. this time ill go 3/4 turn? will that help, make the clutch grab all the way out/ I hope

good video, did you ever consider changing the tensioner to a Baker attitude or a Hayden? I have to do my clutches and figured while I was in there I'd do that upgrade. I heard the hydraulic tensioners put too much tension on the chain. Thanks-

Can't comment either way. I perform all my own maintenance and saw no need for using an aftermarket tensioner on the Evo. Now I own a Twin Cam FLH, equipped with oil-fed tensioner.

Does the clutch pushrod just slide into the shaft? I am trying to figure out how to install a clutch pushrod and I cant find any videos for a 1988 FXR stock 5 speed transmission; any suggestions or advice gladly accepted.

On the Big Twins, yes - there is a rod that runs through the hollow of the transmission shaft and contacts the clutch release mechanism on the right side of the transmission case. Does that help?

Do I need to disassemble the clutch if I want to replace the primary chain only?

Blaine Maestas You might leave the friction plates in place after removing the pressure plate, but why? I want to inspect the parts and handle any issues while it's already apart. And I prefer fresh oil on the plates prior to reassembly. Just a personal thing...

Nice video, thanks. I just purchased a 2005 screaming eagle. It rode with plenty of torque at first, however, it started to be off RPM to torque as if the clutch is getting worn out. Is that what it is or it just needs adjusting at exactly 15000 miles? Thank you. Just an observation, I couldn't see what you were doing from 2:58 to 3:23. Nevertheless, Thank you again for the video.

Gaspare Misseri Adjustment interval depends on how hard you ride it. It makes up for clutch wear. Typical symptoms of a clutch that needs adjustment or replacement is a harder shift into gear (the clutch isn't disengaging all the way). RPM flares on acceleration indicate worn or glazed friction discs, allowing the clutch to slip. The part you couldn't see was me reinstalling the pressure plate bolts (one over each spring post).

Do you have to loosen the main shaft nut if you are just replacing the clutch plates and not the primary chain?

No - the clutch plates can be replaced with the outer basket in place. Just be sure to check the basket for "notching".

I was attempting to adjust my clutch cable with the adjusting screw and it turned while putting the jam nut on. Now the adjustment screw is too tight to turn by hand. Even with allen wrench it is super tight. What would normally cause this? What can be done to correct it?

I assume you loosened the lock nut before you tried to turn the bolt back. You may have just overtightened it as you tightened the nut. You may also want to check the threads to make sure you didn't cross thread anything. Let me know how it turns out!
