Installing the SC Project CRT muffler on the Triumph Speed Triple 1200RS

It's probably the last real modification I'm going to make to the bike. It's also probably going to make the most difference in rideability. I'm installing an SC Project "CRT" muffler to replace the OEM one.
I like the looks and hope for a deeper sound. It works with the exhaust valve installed and no "healing" device is required. SC Project says no need for any fuel remapping either.
I may in the future consider remapping and disabling the speed limiter, but for now I just want a better look and sound.

I know. I had really hoped the laptop recordings would be crystal clear, but that didn't work out. It's unfortunate but with the chin mount Go Pro background noise and wind are the predominate sound. There is a definite difference. It's deeper and actually seems a bit easier on the ears. I have the typical 40 year motorcycle rider with no ear plugs tinnitus and I think the deeper tone helps. Also, I am familiar with the bike and videos (I've probably listened to them 100 times during editing) so I really hear the difference. I wish it was clearer. I am upgrading to a dual Mike set up soon. Keep your fingers crossed for better sound. Thanks for commenting.

The low single sided muffler is old school looking and it's growing on me. The dual high mufflers was pretty cool looking, but it made carrying saddlebags a challenge. I had an 07 model and used to carry a lot of gear using a tankbag, a tailback, and saddlebags. I found a couple of very high heat resistant packing wires from a Ducati crate and would put them over the heat shields. Otherwise the saddlebags would melt or burn.

hello Scott….thank you very much for your video, you have detailed many aspects, thanks to you you have helped me make a decision, I live in the Canary Islands (Spain), and here the maximum decibel allowed, like Europe, is 98 DB in the papers of our technical file of the motorcycle detail it, …according to your video it has a maximum of 101/105 DB at 5000 rpm….I will have to look for an independent company that is dedicated only to this work….and homologate it… .I have been informed that in principle I would have no problems doing it….so thank you very much and greetings…I am still waiting for new videos…..good routes….
@scottsspeedtriplechannel
@scottsspeedtriplechannel Год назад
Thank you for commenting. I'm glad it helped you. Yours is the second comment about max decibel levels there on track. Many of the other pipes/slip ons seem a lot louder when I hear them. This one sounds pretty quiet next to those. Does that mean you guys basically have to run stock exhausts at the tracks?
@carlosalexisgarciaarocha3583
@@scottsspeedtriplechannel ….I think the main problem is driving on any road, by city, highway, mountain etc….in Europe, and at least where I live, which is an island, they are very, very strict, you exceed a Decibel, and It's already a penalty of €300 or €600, depending on the mood they're in that day, 🤦🏻‍♂️, it's a shame, we're very limited to making any changes that aren't specified in the technical sheet,….that's why you'll surely understand better than the dream of every European biker, is to be in the USA, 🤷🏻‍♂️☺️😆….here we have a small circuit, we don't have these restrictions to ride….I have already informed myself and through Triumph they can homologate the SC PROJECT, at Just like an independent company, at least I know that these decibels that exceed me, which are between 3 and 7, I can get to homologate them, I hope so, thanks for answering my message, it has been very good to contact you….

@@carlosalexisgarciaarocha3583 I think I understand. In the USA, each state has it's own laws about sound levels for street use. What might be OK in Florida might not pass in California. Some race tracks won't allow open/ straight pipes, but most allow pretty much anything else.
@carlosalexisgarciaarocha3583
@@scottsspeedtriplechannel I understand, I expected that it was the same law for the entire U.S.A., that there was no difference by state, here it is, the laws in this sense cover the entire country, and are the same as the CE….next week I am going to carry out a analysis of the decibels of my motorcycle to see how it is to stay calm even if it is two or 3 dB margin we have…..

And thanks to you, i know that i won't be able to go on track with the SC, It's too loud,. In France to access to most of the tracks, your bike should not make more than 95dB at 6000rpm.. i know this is ridiculous but It's the rules here..😅 So again, thank you, i know more about this SC, ride safe my friend✌🏽

Hey Tedex. I was informed by another viewer that I should have done the dB check outside, not in my garage. He says that will show lower dBs due to lack of resonating. I don't know if you have purchased or changed your exhaust yet, but I am going to post a short update video regarding the dBs when taken outside. I plan to do it this weekend, so it should be up soon. Maybe when taken outside, it would be compliant for you. Remember the certificate that was in the box. I think that meant it was Euro legal. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know I would be posting an update soon.

@@tedex93 Yeah, I hadn't thought about that either. So I'm not going to go through a muffler swap again, instead I am going to assume that the 10 dB higher across the rev range is probably accurate enough. But I am going to redo the check of idle, 5,000 rpm and I'm going to include 6,000 rpm just for you. I'd hate to think my video caused anyone to buy or not to buy a product due to mistaken information. Same with the how-to videos. I'll be giving both you and the viewer who brought this to my attention a shout out in the new video.

@@tedex93 HI Tedex. I'm going to try to post the update decibel video by this weekend. I've got the numbers though. At idle outside, I'm getting 86-87 dBs. At 5,000 rpm about 98-100 dBs and at 6,000 rpm about 103-104 dBs. So again, I apologize if the indoor readings messed up your or anyone else's plans about the SC Project exhausts.

Any tricks to getting that heat shield on? I’m Struggling with it
@scottsspeedtriplechannel
@scottsspeedtriplechannel 7 месяцев назад
It's been a while since I installed that heat shield, but I remember thinking that the muffler clamps could be in the way if the bolts were pointed straight up when installed. Check to make sure they are facing outwards. I have the clamp bolts at the bottom side facing out. I assembled the shield and bracket loosely before installing it to check the fit. Then I removed the shield from the bracket and installed the bracket and clamp as one piece. Lastly I attached the heat shield to the bracket. The clamp fits on the top pipe and can be moved a little bit forward or back. I do remember to be careful with the bolts that hold the heat shield to the bracket. The heads can be easily stripped. Be gentle with them. I hope this helps.

best looking exhaust for this bike in the market. Still thinking to trade my KTM superduke 1290 GT for this beauty can this be a everyday bike ? is the throttle respond is too jerky at low rmps?
@scottsspeedtriplechannel
@scottsspeedtriplechannel Год назад
I don't find it jerky at all. If anything, to me at least, it doesn't respond quickly enough. Bear in mind that I am coming off a 2007 Speed Triple with throttle cables. This is the first bike I've owned with true "fly by wire" electronics. At first, I had assumed that was the reason for the throttle response to be so "soft". I've ridden and worked on a lot of "fly by wire" bikes with TC, but never really thought much about throttle response with them. I mostly run in sport mode and occasionally use rain mode when stuck in a downpour. I may not have a good feel for it, but I don't even notice a lot of difference in throttle response between modes. As far as slow speed first or second gear riding in traffic, I can moderate the throttle comfortably without any abrupt changes in rpms. Perhaps that is why the response is a bit soft a low throttle.
@scottsspeedtriplechannel
@scottsspeedtriplechannel Год назад
BTW... I forgot to respond about if it can be an everyday bike. Absolutely yes. I was so comfortable on the '07 Triple, that I planned on rebuilding it forever. I said it would be my last bike. I rode it for a couple of years as my only source of transportation and also on trips all around the southeast US going to and from races. It was very comfortable for all day rides. Now that I'm on the new one, I find it just as if not more comfortable than the '07. So yeah, I think it makes a perfect daily ride.

@scottsspeedtriplechannel Год назад
@@alfiethefeline3311 So yeah. I have seen multiple problems from You Tubers. From quickshifters that don't work to front brake master cylinders that are broken to radiator leaks. The original issues of loose engine cover bolts and software glitches to broken exhaust valve cover brackets have probably all been addressed, but it would not hurt to check out Sgt. Sodoms experiences with the Speed Triple as well as 2Ups issues. Both are You Tubers who have had some serious issues. Another issue I have heard of is a low oil pressure warning which made some guys afraid to ride the bike fearing it would blow the engine. You could watch my one year video which covers my issues. I did not have any issues that were of consequence and none of them kept me from riding the bike. As with any used bike, low miles or not, if you are not familiar with the bikes issues, you could have it checked out by a competent mechanic. Anyone who would not let a mechanic look over the bike prior to a sale probably has something to hide. So check out those two guys and watch my "1 year with the Speed Triple" video to get a good idea of what to watch out for. Honestly, I think maybe Triumph had some quality control issues at the factory seeing how some guts got lemons.
