Just measure bottom and top from j channel that’s how I do it. Old school.

You're supposed to cut out around the window and frame it in with trim

You use a vinyl siding tool to separate them and you can remove whatever piece you want.

I think I would cut out the repetitious nailing and music and talk more and do various obstacles one might experience as a beginner..such as vents,outlets,out of level or flush surfaces because that’s the things people want to learn.
