In this mini-series, I'm going to cover the basics of installing and updating Windows 10. These videos are designed to be reference videos to point people to for routine DIY tasks. Feel free to ask questions in the comments, but keep in mind that there's always a million outlier that can pop up, and I can't cover every possible case!

NOTE: As of the latest build, you can now select a local account even when connected to the internet again. So you don't need to worry about taking the machine offline first.

Had no idea how to install with an offline account. Thank you for making this video. This made the install a breeze. Wish it would have helped with the troubleshooting and fixing the machine I was working on, but that is a different story! Again, thanks for taking the time to upload this and all the other videos you make. I really enjoy them and manage to learn a thing or three while relaxing and being entertained.

I agree with you, the less info I send to microsoft the better! (In the past I have always installed from DVD, but the last time I re installed windoze I used a USB3 pen drive and was amazed how much faster it was!)

There is a key difference between Home & Pro, many users have laptops, & getting Pro is a good idea if you want Bitlocker so your data is secure if it gets stolen. Yes there are free solutions for that, but it's still a difference that might cause a home user to choose Pro. Other differences too, but not many that would affect a typical user.
@Adamant_IT
@Adamant_IT 3 года назад
Oh that's a good point, I forget that bitlocker is a thing. I think it's possible to blag that into Home, but someone else would have to confirm. Not a standard feature though, you're right.
@markanderson2904
@markanderson2904 3 года назад
I believe that another difference is that Home doesn't do Remote Desktop
@ackman3981
@ackman3981 2 года назад
As long as the legal license that you have is for the Pro version. A Home key will not activate a Pro version. You will either have to purchase a legitimate Pro key. Or reinstall Windows 10 again and select the Home version.
@TimBoundy
@TimBoundy 3 года назад
There's actually quite a few differences between Home and Pro that don't rely on a domain. Bitlocker, Hyper-V and RDP come to mind.

fun thing about windows 10 pro licencing, you can safely chose pro if you ever activated windows pro, pro n, or pro education, it will activate without problems from microsoft database of your system because n and education licences are considered upgrade to regular pro. home hwewer might not activate from pro licence, i think regular home will however activate from home n key all upgrade licences will switch back to being n or education if you type in actual key in activation center on pro you don't have to unplug internet if you want offline account, on home you are forced to do it if you don't want to make microsoft account, but internet is still required for activation

I managed a clean install the other day. it did not prompt me for a key because it was activated previously. of course my lenovo ideapad 320 had the key in the bios. I successfully installed windows with narrator as I rely on a screen reader due to my visual impairment and once cortana started talking to me I knew the waiting was over. for me here are the programmes I installed after that. google chrome, and NVDA screen reader as narrator still has a long way to go

If you need to type in a email adress for an User you can Click in the left cornber, for an LOCAL User on this PC. So you can connect to the Internet. Just works for me over the last years with Windows 10 reinstalls

Note: you need to activate windows because it won’t be activated especially on a new build computer so you can have full access to all of the settings but for a test pc it dosent need to be activated

Hi, found your channel and picking up tons of tricks. Have a USB Dongle problem for Win 10 that seems to be all over the forums. Upgrading a older HP 8100 Desktop and tried 2 WIFI dongles and the connection just keeps dropping out every few mins and have to troubleshoot to get it on and rinse and repeat as you would say to try to keep it going. done all the usual Device manager things like power saving, freq, uninstall and used HP own Win 7 drivers and Windows 10 update drivers and still no good. This computer dosent have any drivers for 10 from the HP site, only 7 drivers left over for the 8100 but my question is why does the connection work for say up to a hour or just mins then turn off?? If its a driver issue or conflict?, why does it work at all? Loaded Win 10 on a dozen 8100's and almost everyone had this problem and trying to to updates ect is almost impossible using a USB Wifi dongle. So anything besides the obvious that you know about to fix this common issue? Thanks

8:50 Another tip on making a local account, make sure to not set a password right away, because it'll ask for security questions afterward.
@rpl1
@rpl1 4 года назад
8:16 not really a true, because you can still create local user and login without ms account when your computer is connected to internet, however you will need to confirm few times that you really do not wish to use ms account (by default few steps are configured to use ms account, but you can always use the local account instead).

there are defenses between home and pro Feature. but for 99.9% of user no three is no diff Feature the ones that are are stuff like BitLocker device encryption, Group Policy( if you need GP then you are not a normally user like myself i use gp for my child account so that she cant get into place she dose not need to be) those are just a few most of them are business thing like Ad and domain joining etc. but you are right for most uset no there is not diff

When you setup a local account you will need to set security Q Do you need to answer does Q when you connect to a Microsoft account later? i can't remember how that works, I'm asking this since i freshly install windows10 for someone else, but of course, i don have his email info, etc, so wil he run into this at home ? any general rule how to setup for a "client ? "maybe a script ?
@Adamant_IT
@Adamant_IT 4 года назад
I don't think so, if you connect an MS account later, it sits on top of the local account. The local account credentials are effectively put away unless you disconnect the MS account again.

If I have 2 HD, the 1st one has windows already, is there a way I can install windows on the 2nd one (hd)? without the flash drive, directly from the 1st HD
@Adamant_IT
@Adamant_IT 3 года назад
No. You need an install _source_ which is what the flash drive provides.
@markanderson2904
@markanderson2904 3 года назад
While not actually "installing" windows, you could clone the 1st hard drive to the second. But, to use it you would have to change the boot order or select the boot drive each time you boot. You might want to modify the BCD on the boot drive so that you can select the boot device.

Does Windows 10 Home have the Group Policy Editor?...
@Adamant_IT

It doesn't. I think there's ways of blagging GPE into Home, but if it's something you rely on, then you need Pro.

If you are a power user, Windows 10 Pro IS the best of the two. And yes, there is a difference.
@MyIronman8

Us that's an easy question . Windows 10 only see like 8gb or system ram and the windows pro see more than 8gb of ram like if you have like 120gb of ram you want windows 10 pro
@Adamant_IT
@Adamant_IT 4 года назад
Windows Home can take 128GB of RAM. Pro is literally just for business connectivity, and BitLocker. @@Adamant_IT I believe the Remote Desktop feature is restricted to Windows 10 Pro, though, you can still connect to other computers with the Home edition.

The big difference between Windows 10 Home and Windows 10 Pro is the security of the operating system. Windows 10 Pro is safer when it comes to protecting your PC and protecting data. Otherwise the rest of the differences are mostly business related. PS: noticed a lot of comments from yesterday are no longer visible. If you are hen picking comments, I'm out. Is this really how you are managing your comment? I must not be understanding something.
@Adamant_IT
@Adamant_IT 4 года назад
I don't moderate comments. The only time I delete comments are when they're straight up spam (selling dodgy or unrelated products). Criticism and everything else stays up if I like it or not. This mini-series has been picking up a lot of comments that I wouldn't touch with a barge-pole though, so not sure if RU-vid is doing stuff behind the curtains...

I enjoy Linux most. I think windows are best for playing games and photoshoping. If gaming and photography is not your cup of tea I think linux can serve people better as an os. Linux mint is a decent os but so far I did not manage to perform OCR on pdf's in linux. In any case if you decide to install linux do NOT try this en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Star_OS
