Hi Sweet Friends, Today I am sharing How to Make Instant Pot Mac and Cheese - The Right Way! For more Instant Pot Recipes, including How to Cook a Whole Chicken in the Instant Pot - the Right Way - be sure to check out my playlist: ru-vid.com/group/PLkRuW3pBo2U21zBjMF6BwDEquDFKVjVsF I called Instant Pot customer service for advice on How to Make Instant Pot Mac and Cheese - the Right Way! I learned SO much valuable information, and I share it all with you in this video. So get ready to make the creamiest Instant Pot Mac and Cheese ever! I was hesitant to make an Instant Pot Macaroni and Cheese recipe because I had read on many food blogs that the Instant Pot recipes were nothing like the stove top versions. Instead, they came out stringy and "gloopy". Basically, just a big mess, and that sounded very unappealing to me!! But it made sense. How could you make macaroni and cheese without a béchamel sauce? But I decided with the popularity of these new pressure cookers that there had to be a better way to make Mac and Cheese in the Instant Pot. And I was right! I called the manufacturer's customer service line and learned that there are specific techniques for creating a tasty, creamy Mac and Cheese. And in just one pot! And no béchamel sauce required! Genius!! Love, Mary

Thank you so much Mary! I left home at 16 and never learned how to do anything in the kitchen from my mother.. I’m 43 now and have been surviving on the minimal information that I have acquired over the years.. I just would like to thank you for teaching so we’ll. You’ve been the main reason for me to be able to grow and learn so much this last year.

Thanks so very much for a great detailed explanation not only of the steps, but also the WHY of the steps! I really like knowing the rationale of doing things a certain way. I have to confess that I wasn't really convinced of the advantages of making pasta in the Instant Pot, but I've become a believer! I made a couple of minor changes: I use broth instead of water and omit the salt (since my broth is salty), add 1 teaspoon of hot pepper sauce (that you can't really identify as a particular taste in it - just adds a little depth of flavor), and substitute evaporated milk for the cream (to cut both fat and cost) and love it!

Mary, I loved the extensive explanations you gave on using the Instant Pot & how to calculate the correct time for any pasta. Not only that, but the reason not to stir everything after adding the pasta to the water. Also, the natural release explanation helped me tremendously, since I just got my Instant Pot for Christmas & seriously don't know anything. The explanation on grating your own cheese is very important as well. You just had so much knowledge to share & I am so grateful to have found your channel on RU-vid. Thanks so much.

These are great tips and using a natural release helps cooking in general. I rarely jump up and do a quick release, as the food often needs to be cooking, while the pressure is slowly diminishing. I still want to try pre-shredded cheese, but will take her tip about it being coated, into consideration. I never thought about that before, but it makes sense. Can’t wait to try it.

The instant pot is wonderful for new cooks as it replaces so many other appliances. However, as I already have slow cookers, steamers, rice maker, yogurt maker and so on, I would never get one. Recently though, I was gifted one and, ok, I love it. Love that it saves on pots and pans so there isn’t as much cleanup. Love the speed. But maybe most of all, I love that it got me over the hurdle of my fear of steam venting which has prevented my purchasing a pressure canner. As a teenager I saw a neighbor’s pressure cooker lid knock a hole in her ceiling (everyone has a story like that, right?). My instant pot is a Duo Nova so I could start by just pressing the vent release a little at a time instead of shooting all the steam out at once which relieved my fears quickly. Being an old pro of two weeks now I can just let the steam spew! Great transitional tool! Mary, thanks for these great tutorials. Your confidence and clear instructions are so complete! Catching up with the rest of the world now. And, yes, I’ll order a pressure canner now.

Been enjoying your videos since finding you after having received an Instant Pot from hubby for us for Christmas...but this was your first instant pot recipe I’ve watched. I think Hubby was looking for an easy way to help with meal cooking. One tip I’ve found is when stirring in cheeses after pressure cooking is to use a large metal binder clip on the top end of the inner pan and clip it to the machine. It catches on one of those wider areas like the pressure lid, and keeps the inner pot from spinning while trying to melt the cheeses in. Hubby might not need it, but I have issues stirring heavy items, and this was very helpful! Being metal, I was able to clean one from the office and make ready for kitchen/food use.

Just wanted to share that I've made mac and cheese in the IP at least 20 times and I always do an instant release. Never had an issue with foaming. Yes, there is usually a little water left in the bottom but the pasta ends up soaking it up. I also always go 3 minutes, not 4. It ends up cooking to the right consistancy after it sits a couple minutes. ☺

i used to make a bechamel for M&C on the stove top. One day I wanted M&C but i was out of flour... so i added heavy cream and butter as you did, cheese, etc... Been making it that way ever since, its creamy, delicious, and saves you some time and is easier than making a roux. Now... the instant pot is even easier and no boiling hot water to drain after the pasta is cooked.

Ooooooohhhh, that looks so good! My 21 year old son LOVVVVVVVVVVVES Mac&Cheese. He could probably eat it as a meal every single day! I think I will try this in my IP this weekend and surprise him. I'm weird though when it comes to the color of Mac&Cheese so I may have to go with a standard sharp yellow cheddar and then Colby. For some reason, I feel like it should be yellow. HAHAHA! Oh wait, that's probably from years of eating over salted boxed/processed stove top Mack&Cheese. LOL! You are giving me so much motivation to get back in the room I love to spend so much time in! My kitchen! I miss cooking and experimenting with foods. I even have a nice sized garden this year so I am looking forward to getting back into a very happy place this year!

You can do the bechamelsauce in the instant pot. I just add the cheeses and milk or cream with more melted butter while the noodles are hot. Put the instant pot on simmmer and add a corn starch slurry. It will thicken up in a few minutes and be preferect. I add a bit of mayo once it is all done. Much creamier.

I always cook from scratch and love to learn new recipes. The only cans I have in my pantry are tomato paste and a few sardine cans. by the way the sardines spread you made with mustard, try with ketchup. That's how I like them, sweet and sour.

Hello sweet Mary, that looks so good, I love pasta and cheese. I’ve never used an instant pot, so would need the info on removing the rack. Hi Elissa, Thank you so much for visiting! Hope you are doing well! Yes, I am guessing that Monterrey must be a cheese that was developed in California but yes, it is basically like colby. I was shocked at how good this came out. I had experimented a lot with recipes I saw on the internet and it was a disaster! LOL!! So I called Instant Pot - and they nailed it! LOL!! Love, Mary

You can watch it here: ru-vid.com/group/PLkRuW3pBo2U3b4eu0QraZReKlGzA11h3y And please share the playlist with any other folks you think might be interested in learning about these types of things. I’m passionate about the book Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon (of the Weston A Price Foundation) and want to help as many people as I can learn how to make Traditional “Nutrient Dense” Foods. Also…If you enjoy making homemade pantry type items, you might enjoy my playlist: ru-vid.com/group/PLkRuW3pBo2U1MqC3YAw7ZRYjuL9FBGSwc where I show how to make Apple Cider Vinegar, Flavored Extracts, Homemade 1-Minute Mayo, Natural Food Colorings, Evaporated Milk, Condensed Milk, Preserved Citrus, and more! Please let me know if you have any questions. I’m so happy to help! And I’m SO glad you’re here!! Love and God Bless, Mary PS - Are you in our FB group? It’s called Mary’s Nest Modern Pioneers. Come join us! We have a lot of fun chatting about Traditional “Nutrient Dense Foods and it’s a great place to get questions answered.
