Looks like you have not been sleeping well look after yourself. Health is the most important thing. Don’t feel pressured to keep the videos coming do it when it suits you and your time. Good you mentioned guidance note 3 also the IET on-site guide. There is one test that’s never done and I have never seen it done. I just recently bought the tool from sonel but I will let you guess what that is.....

Lol I just look rough its about -2 in my office with all the building work going on and the roller door open all day. I am sleeping good, if ever I am struggling I just watch one of my videos lol.

@@electrician247 take a look at IET RU-vid channel I requested them to do more on the channel for apprentices they have a small amount of material (limited really) but they have promised to do much more hopefully and it’s coming shortly apparently that’s a case of a trade body listening I would also suggest many of you electricians and apprentices tell them via RU-vid Instagram or DMs about what is needed. Maybe even have them on your channel? To discuss this very issue.

@@mathman0101 I would love that. Chatted with the IET before myself. But not much happened. I am a MIET engtech if it makes a difference lol.

@@electrician247 probably would IET putting more video content on testing and exemplification s of their guidance notes would be an unreal amount of excellent material would help all electricians and would raise their profile as a body thats responsive and at cutting edge of ensuring learning leads to higher technical standard and competencies. Your the right man to do it give them a bell.

Thank you. So insulation resistance testing could potentially last for hours if you have to disconnect all the lamps (on your set up you have an emergency light - if a house/commercial unit had 5 emergency light? If you don't NULL the testing device - does it have a noticeable effect on the final reading - especially on a full house/commercial unit? of is it done more to show accuracy in your final reading. I can see that on a small test rig it will add the overall length of the wiring. Thank you. Any way thank you for the video (our Thursday practical sessions are on hold at Bradford college until further notice - so the video is appreciated).

In this situation you can join line and neutral together and then test to earth. Avoiding removal of the lamps and ensuring IR to earth is good. On initial verification it really needs doing in full though.

How do you rate the TIS MTF in comparison to megger MTF? Reason I ask is I use megger (for the auto test in continuity and Ze/Zs etc) but looking for another MFT tester and considering the TIS. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

I use the Megger as well. Both have different strong points to be fair. Like you say with the auto continuity on megger. I got this as the EV kit to be honest because it was exceptional value. Used the mft pro to get used to it and really like it. Especially the earth clamp and power factor/data logger capability. Has a few extra features like volt drop measurement as well. TIS have some good videos on there RU-vid and David Savery has covered it a few times if that helps.

would Zdb be equal to Ze plus the (R1+R2) of the feed to the sub board?
@electrician247
@electrician247 3 года назад
Yes mate roughly speaking. Of course parallel earth paths and bonds will make them slightly different. But in that ball park 100%

Wrong, insulation resistance test BS7671 Isolate the mains switch remove all loads all switches must be in the on pasiton, test at 500 V Between line and neutral then line and earth then neutral and earth and then line and neutral to earth. If you can't remove any secretive electronic equipment from circuit then test at 250 v line and neutral to earth

I think thats what I said Sean. Pretty sure I did anyway 🤷‍♂️. Aside from not doing L+N combined to earth after doing L-N, L-E, N-E. This video was made after an appretice in the A121 group asked for help doing IR tests on initial verification. Never been a fan of the combined test on initial verification. Thought I covered that in the video, maybe not. Also my video was setup in a way to show what happens if you dont remove loads. Was the only way I could think to record it in a way that works. If you can do a video of what you think it should look like. I can point the apprentices at it. We have thousands in the group desperately needing help. If you wasnt aware check out www.apprentice121.co.uk or @apprentice121 on instagram. I film my videos around running my business and helping get redundant apprentices through Covid back into work. It takes a lot of time and over 300 back in jobs. We have also put safe isolation kits in many apprentices hands free of charge. I try my best to help with little videos and this certainly isnt instructional or a video guide to BS7671. I look forward to seeing your video and will 100% pass it into the group. Its desperately needed if you get time. Thanks for the comment.

@@electrician247 unfortunately I don't do video's I don't know how to at least not on utube, maybe I could get my son inlaw to help me but don't bank on it and sorry to be picky but you didn't mention it as I discribed in your video but hay don't worry about it the was OK. I think you're doing an OK job keep it up and I look forward to seeing more. Thank you

Thanks Sean, more is coming. Getting a lot of request from the apprentices in the A121 group. Check out apprentice121.co.uk and @apprentice121 on instagram. 300+ back in work through Covid redundancy. Free safe isolation kits to many. My video was mainly to show what happens with connected loads left in. Not an instructional guide to BS7671. If I had gone with L-N first video over lol. Did my best in the time I have around A121 and the day job. Putting everything into helping people. If you want to be involved get in touch through the website.
