I am just a mess. My 50th Birthday is Nov 21. I have always had a small waist and when I felt to heavy the weight just fell off. I no longer get a period. Now I feel like if I go on a diet, i will guarantee to gain weight. It seems to settle in my belly where it never has before. Right now I am the heaviest I have EVER been.......EVEN PREGNANT.! !!! I am so embarrassed. Sorry to take up your time. Thanx for letting me cry on your shoulder. Much 💞 and more 🍀

Diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 1998 insulin dependent for over 15 years. Took control by diet change, weight loss and discipline. Doctor took me off insulin in 2012 and I remain non insulin dependent in 2021. A1C less than 7 Not easy but necessary. I'm determined, by the way I just turned 70 on New Year Eve 2020.

*My daughter drinks lots of water and urinates with the same rate, there are no other symptoms to show if those have anything to do with diabetes. This is a good information that I have gone through **Diabets.Care** She is 2 years 9 months, hale and healthy, have not done any blood test. But I am not certain if one can get diabetes at such a tender age. Please I will like to know more on that*

2 and 3 year olds can most certainly get diabetes - type 1 diabetes, which is the autoimmune version of the disease. If your child is drinking and peeing excessively, please have her checked by a doctor. My son was diagnosed at 3 years old, also looking and acting perfectly healthy - other than being incredibly thirsty and peeing all the time. He started bedwetting after being weaned etc. Please check if at all unsure!

Insulin resistance is REAL. I was diagnosed as a type II diabetic a year ago. I started fasting and following a low carb high fat diet. My elevated sugars were under control in 2 weeks! I am no longer considered diabetic, my high blood pressure is gone, my swollen ankles are gone, I don't pee every hour! So thankful for you tubers like you that share such GOOD information.

They get taught and indoctrinated in university. It's not necessarily their fault but the system. Furthermore they get fed with the idea of science but the institutions hide the research. My daughter is a doctor and I can honestly say it's not that simple. She really believes what she believes. They wake up when they start having the symptoms and issues themselves. I was at a really good doctor here in SA ( now practicing in usa or Canada) with heart pains. He put me on strong pain killers. Only now ten years afterwards I found out that I have a soy allergy which makes me short of breath which affects my heart. Now soy free and heart pain free.

I have also had T2 for ten years and no medic told me that it could be reversed. I also used to snack a lot. I found out about weight loss and intermittent fasting a few months ago and as a result I have reduced my fasting glucose to 6.1 mmol (normal is below 5.5) and I am on course to get it to normal in a few weeks. I will still have some insulin resistance, but I think I can fix that as well if I keep going.
@TungB
@TungB 10 месяцев назад
I guess the takeaway is doctors will try to fix you after you break, but they won't help you at all to avoid getting there. Most doctors have very little professional training in nutrition. My doctor ran and ate granola (the worst) until he got prancreatic cancer and checked out. Their general lack of knowledge of nutrition today is a true crime and black stain upon the entire validity of the medical profession.

Kait is 100% correct here, Rebecca. I suggest also some of the other Keto channels. They are presenting the true science of nutrition. Be aware that the SAD diet is dangerously unhealthy, and exists only to sell bulk chemical factory generated and processed food "products". Eating fat doesn't make you fat, eating bulk carbohydrates does. they DO feed bulk grains (carbohydrates) to cattle, to fatten them up for market. The food and drug mega-corporations spend many billions of dollars on promotion, misinformation and bribery to sell their health damaging products. There are people online paid to misinform and mislead. If they teach and preach low-fat for instance, you can be sure that they've been misled or are seeking to mislead. It's so sad that such behavior is not easily criminally chargeable. My favorite Keto channels include Dr Eric Berg, and Dr Sten Ekberg. Hope this helps.

@Homos R Perverts Against Nature you are very wrong with that. I live keto since 2 years and nothing helped me more than that. @@amisoftau2659 thank you dear. Im already on ketogenic lifestyle since 2019. On and off i gotta admit tho. But once i fall into ketosis i feel amazing. I still have some symptoms that makes my life harder. And only the keto diet doesnt fix that. I need to look further into it. And thats why i am so thankful for this video. If i go to the docs they simply tell me that im fat and should do a diet... that im on keto since 2 years and lost weight - they dont care. Its more that im stuck after loosing water. Which frustrates me. My body is a rebel and it is on a strike haha. I have 8 of the 9 symptoms in this video and 4 of them significantly strong in appearance. Additional i have a very very hard hairloss since about 6 months Which will end in a bald head if it keeps going on like this. But still doctors told me "you are just fat, nothing else" - I never heard that beeing fat makes you loose hair, sleepless, having periods once every 3 months and so on. I knew it was something else that also had to be going on. Cause even that i changed to keto - those things didnt change, some got even worse.

Looking back i had a lot of the signs you mention in your video. I had gestational diabetes with both my pregnancies and really struggled losing weight after my last pregnancy. I started on the ketogenic diet/ working out 3 days a week, I managed to drop 30 lbs in two years. But totally plateaued after that initial loss. I spent the following year trying to figure out why I wasn't able to lose any more weight. Finally i consulted with a naturopathic doctor who suggested I added fasting to my lifestyle. First I did 16:8 then gradually shifted to omad. This was like magic to my body. After three years of struggling I finally started to lose the weight. I averaged about 1 pound a week and now I'm almost back to my pre-pregnancy weight!

How or why does exercising raise your blood sugar levels?? Seems super counter intuitive. Can someone explain??
@dotunn
@dotunn Год назад
@@balla2828 So i think it has to do with the glucose already stored in your body, so even if you stop carbs, and you start fasting or exercising, your body still needs some form of energy to function (otherwise you'd probably die in your sleep or pass out during a run)so your body is now tapping into its stored bank to use all the glucose stored and because of this the insulin kicks up as well again. i know it sounds annoying but Jason fung here on youtube explained this is not necessarily bad because well...its about time we lose some of that excess stored glucose and fat. I think its just a phase as your new journey begins to insulin sensitivity starts. Things will even out. Watch Jason Fung he explains this very well.

My intuition is (I am not a medical professional) that it might be helpful to check with several sources and at least two dietitians/nutritionists if your diet really is healthy in terms of diabetis prevention or is it only a bit healthier than your peers' diet or the mainstream diet in your country (especially if you live in the USA). I thought for the longest time my diet wasn't that bad but now, after my insulin resistance diagnosis and some self-education, I realise I still ate far too much high-GI products. In my country, people eat tons of bread and tons of potatoes, for example. Hardly anybody would consider it unhealthy because it's so mainstream and part of the culture. "Normal" and "harmful" don't go together, right? ... Right!? ;)

Hi! Thank You for making videos for the public. I have PCOS but have never been close to diabetic. I never tested positive on my three gestational diabetic testing (even though I more than doubled in weight all three pregnancies) and when my doctor checked me randomly I was constantly in the low side. After a hospital stay where they starved me abs only fed me through an IV with liquids, antibiotics and prednisone. When I got out after five days I had lost 15 pounds and I was already skinny when I was admitted (Crohn’s flare up and bacterial infection). I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s a couple of years back after gaining 40 pounds in three weeks abs testing. I’m on medications for my thyroid and when I got out from the hospital the sane thing happened to me again, gained a ton of weight in only a few weeks. I thought it was my thyroid but the doctor didn’t think so. This was September of last year abd ever since I have been extremely fatigued and so tired neither my body or brain functions like it used to. I have a lot of pain too and are often stuck in bed. During a check up my glucose level was 240. This was after my scoliosis and the nerve damage caused me to be bedridden for weeks and I had to resolve to 30 mg of prednisone per day. I received help from a dietitian and my doctor diagnosed me with steroid induced diabetes. I had to watch every carb for a couple of months but it was difficult being a vegetarian, almost vegan and also being on a low fiber diet due to Crohn’s. I continued to eat berries daily. My blood sugar went down and now that the prednisone is out of my body so is the diabetes. But what I realized after a lot of research is that being on a high protein, low carb diet that’s often high in fat is not a good way to live. We actually do need carbs (like my berries) for healthy antioxidants. Eating a keto type diet does not cure the disease, it only masks it. What everyone needs to learn is to eat “lagom” on everything with a variation of healthy foods (lagom is a Swedish word that means “just enough” basically). In my case my insulin resistance was not preventable as You said. It was not caused by poor diet or a lack of healthy living. It was a response to many auto immune diseases, prednisone and an incredible amount of stress on my body during a short period of time. I am not writing this to argue with what You said, but simply give You another scenario and patient to look at. My doctors and dietician agrees with my views on the “lagom” diet that includes healthy carbs and avoids too much similar unhealthy fat. I hope You May want to take this into consideration and I am open to answer any questions You may have. Sincerely, M.

All my life I've had irregular menstrual cycles. I've always weight lifted and was able to push more weights than the average guy at the gym (now I know why). But it was always hard to lose weight. Then 2008 and other life circumstances, I wasn't able to pay for a gym membership. It took a long time to get back to the gym, then covid19. But now I have a home gym, and I've been exercising for 3 months and only managed to lose 7 lbs. I have high blood pressure, and I can feel that I am on track to diabetes. I don't want either, and I don't want to be fat anymore. I started getting really depressed...then your video. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. I am diabetic. 100% insulin dependant. So I see a dietician monthly. And since I got ill, which caused my diabetes, I have been told to eat more often. Rather than not often. I eat three small low carb meals and two low carb snack. I make sure to balance protein and carbs properly. And you will lose weight and stop insulin resistance. Thomas De Lauer has a fantastic channel here on YT. He explains the science behind proper diet in a straight forward manner that is easy to understand. Most of his videos cover Keto diet, diabetes, recommended foods, what food you should and shouldn't eat for different problems, and he covers supplements that you should and shouldn't use and exercise. I hope this can someone else. It's helped me really get on track. 💕🙏🇺🇸

I wish I had known some of this back 30 years ago. Doctors don't really know how to talk to patients and inform them of their options and symptoms. Doctors just go by the numbers (cholesterol, blood sugar, triglycerides, etc.). I have had skin tags for years. Never has a doctor told me why I have them, and I have asked. And never did a Doctor tell me my abdominal fat was due to insulin resistance. It was always, "well some people have a higher/lower metabolism" type of answer.

I was gaining a lot of weight and I was way hungrier than I'd ever been, abdominal fat, etc. even though I was exercising and trying to lose weight. I stopped eating sugar including fruit and it's been a month and I've already lost a good amount of weight including in my abdomen and my hunger is finally back to how it was when I was thinner. I get full when I eat again and I don't want to eat for a while afterward. All I did was stop eating sugary foods including fruit and I don't eat at night and I feel so much better and I'm finally losing weight. Great video! Thank you! My husband was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes a few years ago and I panicked. But, we worked hard and changed everything and brought his numbers down so much that he didn't even show in the diabetes range anymore even after going off meds. Meds gave him some odd never pain effects. I've not shown as diabetic, but a lot on this list apply to me. Though I have many other health issues such as RA, osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, new knees and many surgeries...ptsd , anxiety disorder , chronic pain from the car accident that shattered my lumbar spine at 16(over 30yrs ago) and so on...sleep is a problem for sure. I've wanted to try the intermittent fasting as some days I can completely go without eating....but, typically I get very very nauseated and shaky with headaches if I go too long without eating a small something. Also, when I go without, as soon as I do eat my stomach rebels. So, trying to figure something out. Only ifno I typically get is to "just lose weight and everything will get better"...no as easy as they make it sound when some days I can't stand or walk, and it isn't a cure all especially if there's more going on but you can see on their face that my being fat puts me in this category of being ignored. Frustrating. Anyway, I'll look at the other videos for sure. Thank a bunch!

Insulin resistance was caused by the FDA. Any time rats are fed a diet inclusive of high fructose combined with hydrogenated fats they become insulin resistant. The FDA allowed manufacturers to use high fructose and hydrogenated fats/oils because these ingredients are cheap. These foods never satisfy us, so we eat more and more.

Don't get too scared, its relatively easily managed with a fairly gentle diet change and light exercise with some advice from a good dietitian and physiotherapist I got diagnosed about this time last year and by sticking to the diet + exercise it was more or less back to normal blood sugar levels in 5-6 months.

Would you be kind enough to share your diet chart and exercise routine
@krissteel4074
@krissteel4074 3 года назад
@@zahraali5919 I've got some fairly severe cardio-pulmonary problems so exercise is essentially 'what I can manage' and usually involves short walks every 1-2 days with care not to over-exert myself, but you do have to get moving so to speak to keep everything running in some sort of order. For healthier people that aren't massively unfit, you're probably best to see an actual physiotherapist and get some hints on what 'your body' is capable of in terms of a workout routine. I can do some weights and exercise stuff in addition to walking but have been warned that not to exceed a certain set of repetitions for more than 10-15min, rest and then do a different routine. With the diet, its as much about how you eat as what you eat. For me, I was told to even our my blood sugar levels over the day, so I must have breakfast, lunch and dinner at regular hours each day, despite a lifetime of skipping breakfast and sometimes lunch, then splitting that up with snacks- all that stuff is right out! Basically, having a couple of large meals a day is not good as the sugar levels spike and your body ends up having to try and cope with too much after each meal. So keep the portion sizes somewhere in the small-moderate range and stick to the times, don't fast as that tends to send the body a mixed message about when its supposed to absorb fats and nutrients and will condition itself to that behavior. What I can eat however, gets a bit more complicated A lot of that covers some fairly large amount of the plant based carbs- potato, rice, pumpkin, carrots, corn and most root vegetables... yeah, kiss them goodbye. You can have 'a little' of them in terms of a portion on a plate, but your days of swimming in pumpkin soup and great mounds of potato mash are over. Also on the list (yes, it gets worse!) that gets shoved out the door are pretty much all the breads, pastries, cakes, pasta, potato chips, corn based snacks, large amounts of chocolate anything with very high salt content. You can have some bread, but make sure its not highly refined, in small amounts, multigrain- I have found multigrain flatbread to be the lowest n terms of carbs per serve, so you can make wraps for lunch with those. (check the info on their contents each brand) Mostly I'm to keep hydrated, have larger portions of protein, fibre and green vegetables of say 1/3rd each, then the last 1/3 can be a small amount of carbs and fats Milk and nuts are ok, as are most of the simpler breakfast cereals without a lot of sugar in them (check packaging- lots of sugar/carbs = bad) and most of the meats, beans and other types of green, leafy vegetables and salad stuff is completely fine. Highly processed meats like salami, hotdogs and some sausages you want to keep an eye on due to the higher sodium and fat levels in them, so use sparingly in your serves

Another interesting point .... l can't remember where l sourced this. An experiment performed by a doctor somewhere...he ate all his meals really slowly, begun chewing his meals really slowly and for longer. Same amount of food was eaten. Result ? He lost weight and his blood sugar levels balance out.

I have PCOS and was diagnosed with insulin resistance in my 20's and was given zero advice. I was put on metformin which me sick so I can't take that. I am in my forties now and started researching myself because I got tired of the "you are gonna have to live with it" line I keep getting from Dr. Everything they tell you to do makes it worse. I am grateful to have found your chanel and hope to start making some improvements and progress.

I always figured my excess tummy fat was a permanent side effect from having four children. And I believed skin tags were somehow genetic bc my mom's family has had them. I'll be mentioning some of these things to my doctor at my next appointment. Thank you.
@veram4820
@veram4820 3 года назад
It doesn't mean your doctor will agree. I have read about the link between the skin tags on the neck and insulin resistance, and talked about this to my doctor and she said that it had no link. But as I like to check for myself, I went to pubmed and found studies linking both. So they don't know everything. And yes, in my country, nutrition is an opcional subject in the medical degree. It's ridiculous...

What I've considered with things that "run in the family" is this.... Your diet is handed down from your family typically. *Secret family recipes* and all. Just a thought that occurred to me a while back.

Yup, I had most of these. I actually measured the c-peptide. It was 1700 or something. Normal range is 400-700. I haven't measured the c-peptide again, but I am confident I am fixing my insulin resistance with quality food. One thing you forgot to mention though, linoleic acid seem to be causing cells to be insulin resistant. So cut out plant fat and replace it with healthy animal fat.

#1 Abdominal fat #2 Swollen ankles #3 Hunger after eating #4-A Sugar & carbohydrate craving #4-B Dark skin patches #5 Frequent urination #6 Extreme thirst #7 Irregular menstrual cycle (PCOS) #8 Skin tags #9 Elevated blood sugar Good list and very educational. I would add three more: #10 High blood pressure. #11 Triglycerides to HDL Ratio greater than 2.0 #12 Getting very tired, getting brain fog, or falling asleep an hour or two after eating. Regarding #5: If you're passing sugar in your urine, you might be a full fledged diabetic. Regarding #7: Minor technical point... I don't think the problem isn't that the ovaries make too much testosterone. I think the problem is that the testosterone is supposed to get converted to estrogen, but the high insulin interferes with the conversion, thus you're left with too much testosterone and not enough estrogen. Slight difference but it's helpful to know. Regarding #9: I would recommend measuring 60 minutes after you eat - this way you can catch the peak value. Over 140 is undesirable. If you have mood and energy problems, eating in such a way as to keep 1 hour post meal sugar below 140 will help a lot. Also, you mentioned exercise as possibly raising blood sugar, and this might be true, but if you do some moderate exercise (e.g. walking for 20 minutes) after you eat, you can dramatically blunt your post-meal glucose spike. Why? When your muscles are active they can take up glucose without insulin.

Thanks for posing. I had to figure this out on my own 6 years ago. Doctors do not learn to diagnose this in medical school. They just follow the outdated food pyramid. Tell you to load up on whole wheat bread which spikes your sugar. The book wheat belly does a good job of explaining this..
