I am so sick and tired of Muslim apologists saying we can only understand Koran in Arabic. Even with some misinterpretations the messages are very clear. And what is this fixation on Arabic if Koran was meant to be a universal message for all humanity?!
Where are these peaceful Muslims speaking out against hamas? I have Muslim friends and they keep making excuses for hamas. It has damaged our friendship as I can not condone hamas at all!

Then it wouldn't be Islam anymore. The majority (64%) of the Koran refers to Kafir (non muslims), and nearly all of the Sira (81%) is about Mohammed’s struggle with the Kafir. 37% of the Hadith of Bukhari concerns them. Overall, the Trilogy devotes 51% of its content to the Kafir.
Loved every minute of Douglas Murray and Ayan Ali Hersey. The two muslims are being muslims, covering for co religionists, lying thru the teeth of their religion
A religion which needs a huge reform is not a true religion. 10 commandments of Moses worked centuries ago, they worked when Jesus came and they still work today!
Im american man, i lived in london for 6 years… love british people, respect the British very much. They are the most loyal friends I have ever had. Douglas Murray is truly a genius. And extremely handsome 😅
Fair point. Nobody worried about Buddhists yelling Om Shanti Akbar while chopping limbs off children. What people believe by way of religion or culture has major impacts on how they act on the basis of these beliefs. Which is why it's so important that we can openly criticize any religion or idea without fear of fatwas or being called a bigot.
@@tigersforever4577 what does that have to do with peacefulness? You can invite people to convert peacefully, but Islam says to slay and/or subdue anyone who will not convert. Christianity is a peaceful religion which has had violence done in its name, Islam is inherently violent but many people want to twist it to make it sound peaceful.
Yet she happily claims that it is a religion of peace. Doing this helps hide the stark reality of Islam, and the text behind it. Yeah, Ayaan is right to be leery of "moderates".
@@bongoon2552 Here's your religion: Ravina said: Therefore, with regard to a female gentile child who is three years and one day old, since she is fit to engage in intercourse at that age, she also imparts impurity as one who experienced ziva.
She mentions nothing about the true essence of Islam and that women, generally, are deemed as 2nd rate beings, not allowed to back chat with their husbands, husbands that traditionally, they have no choice in choosing. That their profit was married to a 12 year old girl (pedophilia in the civilised world) these are common facts about this faith. Female genital mutilation is also a common act, which, just like circumcision, are acts of physical child abuse in my opinion. I'm happy to debate this with anyone.
Name me one Islamist country with liberal values, freedom of speech, equal rights for gays & women, etc. we can talk till the cows come home about lovely intelligent nice Muslims but at the end of the day, it does not negate one iota the results
They don’t need to become liberal democracies per se - their culture and ethos is obviously not compatible with ours. That’s fine. It’s absolutely fine to remain a conservative monarchy for example. But most of them are either failed states with warring radical factions or oppressive theocracies. I don’t expect them to have a pride march, but at the very least they can stop beheading gays. I don’t expect feminism to thrive there, but at the very least - in the 21st century - their women ought to have some level of autonomy, access to education and not be forcefully married at the age of 12 to their first cousin.
Peace to the islamists does not mean a spirit of brotherly love and goodwill towards non Muslims. Peace, according to their religious teachings and practices, are futuristic, when they have the entire world conquered and subdued for Islam, then there will be peace. Basically, peace is the absence of war, not the everyday spirit (zeitgeist) of the people.
"Elevate the value of a girl as a human being higher than valuing her hymen" BOOM! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Ayaan is so intelligent and beautiful and classy. She's amazing
In Islam there is no separation between 'church and state'. They will not accept the laws or 'state' of another country if it is in contradiction to Islam. Personal and anecdotal examples of some moderate Muslims is not an argument that the religion is in any way moderate.
Group of Muslims from Seattle were invited by a Unitarian church I used to attend. They told the entire congregation, flat out, “We. Have no respect for your western system of governance or lawmaking.” They made no bones about it. Split no words.
It’s prescient she made it clear at the end, that she was NOT against all religions. Seeing as, she “came out” as Christian last fall. I think the other side KNOWS that Islam isn’t a religion of peace. I mean, they speak haltingly, especially the other lady, & almost trembling regarding the death threats. Did you notice she never answered the question she was asked ? The woman from the crowd asked, if it’s about interpretation & Ayan is just interpreting it in bad faith or misunderstanding, how would YOU interpret it? She asked her to contextualize & question what it meant. She didn’t do that because, unlike what she said, she CANNOT. Her quivering let you know she wasn’t being honest. (Not that I blame her. I’d be scared too. But then don’t lie.) They just can’t openly argue that it isn’t because, what does that say about them? Their parents? It can be hard to swallow that pill.

@@candycolriv Loophole for lying in Islam. Case 1: If lying is the only means to achieve legitimate Islamic objectives for oneself or others, Nawawi, quoting Ghazali, states: “Every praiseworthy goal that can be achieved without lying should not be pursued by lying, and if it cannot be achieved except through lying, then lying is permissible. If achieving that goal is permissible, then the lying is permissible; and if it is obligatory, then the lying is obligatory…” Case 2: In the context of war, deception is sometimes necessary to protect the well-being of the Muslim community and secure victory over their enemies. Case 3: Lying to your wife to maintain the happiness of the husband. (One of the best excuses for adultry) Case 4: To reconcile people and resolve social conflicts.
I watched this about a decade ago, it's so frustrating that nothing has changed. If anything, Maajid now releases podcasts with titles like: "Netanyahu funded and supported Hamas for war", and Zeba Khan seems to have dropped off the face of the earth, it's such a shame as they were such wonderful voices, who do we have left in the fight to reform Islam?
You can only get to violence as a Christian by ignoring Jesus. You can only get to peace as a Muslim by ignoring Muhammad. That's the key difference that will always plague Islam.
Wonderfully eloquent. Indeed you could say read the New Testament or read the Koran. So two key tenets of Islam are not peaceful. I don't really understand the Hadif, but it's probably a full house from what I have heard in the debate.
I never heard anyone screaming Jesus Christ before they did something violent Nor did I hear them scream Eluhim Sababa or anything like it But I did hear many violent people scream Allah Akbar before killing
@@hannacook859eluhim sababa 😅👌 I said exactly the same to friend recently. And there is a reason why. And Douglas and the other panelists showed very well why it is so.
This piece is timely, and has aged well. By this point, the arguments were predictable. I thank the "against" side, for (easily) standing their ground, and defending (easily) why the "question" of interest, just isn't so. But some goods points on the pro side were made, even if they are more requests/hopes, than reality. And with that, I leave you with a joke. I was having mud coffee with my neighbor Shimon. We were discussing Islam, and its "merits", and I asked if it was true, that Islamists really believe they will receive 72 virgins in "paradise", reachable only through unspeakable evil and matyrdom. His reply was telling. Shimon said, "You are wrong. The "martyr" does not receive 72 virgins in paradise. They receive only 1 virgin, and she is 72 years old".😀

For the past 20 years there has been a debate on the same topic "Islam is a religion of Peace." I have seen Douglas Murray do one 10 years ago. I have seen Christopher Hitchens do one 15 years ago. I have seen others intellectuals do one 20 years ago. The point of these debates have become one thing only, which is to make this "Topic of Islam" merely a topic of academic discussion, so that no one demands any action but only to stifle or delay any action, till the barbarist reach our gates and then everyone is just forced to bend thier views to suit the views of this new electoral constituency.

I'm only an engineer, but as far as I know, it's a little different to understand. Luther was not a prophet. At first he just wanted to reform the Catholic Church and translated the Bible into German. This makes him an important inventor of the German language. The reaction of the Pope and some German princes who supported his work ultimately led to the split from the Catholic Church. After that, peasant uprisings against the nobility took place in the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation. In this context, Luther justified the violence against the peasants by saying that the Bible says "be a subject of the authorities who have power over you". IMHO, there is nothing in the Bible about killing peasants. May be that Luther said this, but this is only his opinion.
Apparently, Allah speaks only in Arabic. That is why Islamic apologists claim an exaggeration of a text when spoken in English or any other language other than Arabic. They always fall back on that but then that's when you know you have a religion of tyranny. It is true that you can get many things by learning to read the Bible in hebrew, greek, and Latin. However, an English speaking person who reads the Christian Bible (all 73 books, mind you) only in English can learn what he/she needs to and become a great Christian. Not to mention the fact that Islam has never had an intellectual tradition of evangelizing. Most all conversions to Islam since the time of Muhammad have come from the point of a sword. This is undeniable historical fact.
In the words of Prime Minister Lee Kwan Yew on Islamism "A strong but firm government will ride this wave but a soft government looking to accomodate everyone's views would lead to mischief".

@@stasia_bonni the word "white" here doesn't refer to skin color but rather a racist ideology held by western colonial countries that started in the enlightenment period and continues to this day. Also, about the Muslim slavery thing, you literally copy pasted it from a freaking BBC website, trying to white wash the unspeakable crimes committed by white western people.
Again, you seem to be very focused on your slogans and trying to project what are clearly your passionately held opinions regarding Western colonialism on a debate focused on evaluating religion which had a significant expansionist and militaristic history of its own, however much you’d like to recast it as otherwise. Also you seem to have a dangerously dismissive view, as historical facts whether presented by the BBC or any other source are just that, and if you want to have a proper historical appraisal of slavery or cultural colonialism you can not simply just make everything about Western crimes in that regard without acknowledging the far longer period of time where the expanding Muslim Caliphate were guilty of the same.

If islam is an the religion of Peace, shouldn't the extremists be extremely peaceful. _ Ricky Gervais. You can easily spot any religion of Peace. It's extremist members would be extremely peaceful: Ricky Gervais.
My main contention with what Majid says is this: If an uneducated stone age peasant had a child bride, then yes you can contextualise and make the argument that he was more innocent because of the time he was living in. But I don't think this can be done as well with Muhammad because muslims believe he was the final prophet of god (basically the most important human being in history) and so why would a god allow his final prophet to marry a child when it would have been so easy for god to make it so the prophet did not marry a child? Surely this just shows plainly that Islam is not true
When Zeba spoke of women's rights in Islam, my mind immediately went to Mahsa Amini. The young lady who, in 2022, was murdered by the Iranian 'morality' police for improperly wearing her head scarf. So, 12 years on, her arguments have not aged well. As for Maajid, I have the utmost respect for how he stood up to the authoritarian covid lockdowns and mandates (his conversation with Joe Rogan was brilliant), but on this panel, I found him lacking. The question of 'IS Islam a religion of peace?' is NOT the same as 'Could Islam be a religion of peace?'.
Like someone smart once said, the peacefull population (of any religion) is irrelevant when it comes to national secutiry. Discussing the risks and taking measures against the small, dangerous, relevant part shouldn't not be seen as racist, but evidence based..
If I become and apostate under christianity my life would not be in danger ,but if i do it under islam my life is possibly forfeit. Do with this info as u please.
If you want Islam to be a religion of peace, you would first have to acknowledge that by definition, it isn't a religion of peace. If you are moving to a pasture where the grass is greener, you are acknowledging that your grass isn't green, or is at the very least less so.
Dear Douglas, thank you for posting this talk her with its important conclusions. We need these conversations these days. Muslims must define Islam for themselves - which Muslim type hijack the religion from the other is a big question. Extremists will maintain that true Islam is exactly hatred of infidels, conquest and violence in the name of Allah.
This debate definitely didn't age well...for the motion side.. look at countries in middle east, in this time, they are all engaged in war and living in misery, the countries apparently ruled by Sharia Laws, look at Afghanistan where all rights for women are taken away, the absolute travesty, look at the influx of immigrants in west & how much trouble they are causing, opening debate to actually close the gates for them...look at countries like Pak & Bangladesh where every day minorities like Hindu & Christians are persecuted...truth is...Islam was & is not a religion of peace & it won't be until the apologist admit out loud that there are things inherently wrong within Islam, I personally feel bad for women, especially when people in liberated countries like India, France & USA talk about right to wear hijab in schools where it is against dress code & women in Iran are dying to not wear it.
