Interesting Convenience Store Food (7-Eleven) - Tried and Tested: EP189 

In Australia convenience stores can be quite expensive too and I think we should stop normalising cheaper prices for food products just because they are ‘convenience store’, there are still labour costs etc to cover.

Cause it’s 24 hours. That’s why it’s a bit more expensive.

There used to be mom and pop shops in Singapore that were in place of these convenience stores. Now, they have been successfully killed off by these big chains that have opened up everywhere and not forgetting supermarkets too. All the prices in 7-11 are way higher. We don’t actually need so many convenience stores running 24 hours though?? What a waste of resources and the prices of the products are always high, doesn’t matter what time you purchase them. Even you walk in at lunch time, you are paying 30% more for a bag of chips or a cold drink. The 7-11 stores in Singapore are a far cry from the Japanese familymart in chain (in Japan) where they serve fresh affordable food that also tastes good. So.. to sum it up. 7-11 in Singapore can be better and should be better! Maybe work with hawkers to improve on your food if you really want people to respect 7-11 food? Or our local brand Prima Deli.

This is in Asia, specifically Singapore. There are some items (like the chocolate lava cake) that you can find outside of Singapore, but there are a couple Singapore exclusives like the pocket sandwich and the Ribena jelly drink (even though Ribena is a British brand).

They have to recover all the R&D cost. That's why it's expensive. After that, the cost will purely depend on the raw material and processing cost which will make it cheaper in future. This is applicable for all new things introduced in the market.
