On my 1992 G20 conversation van, the external handle goes through periods when it will not work and then it will work again. Right now it hasn't been working for over a month and I am afraid it is permanent this time. I can't get to the door from the inside because of the back seat and all the stuff packed in back there. What could possibly cause this? Could this be cause by these electronic locks?
Yes. If the lock solenoid isn't working properly or is jammed it will not move the plate up to where the latch can push on it. You should be able to unlock the door manually with the key, but if the solenoid is jammed it can prevent the key from turning. Try having someone lock and unlock the door while you listen at the back door to see if you can hear the lock solenoid (it will make a thunk noise). If there is no noise, the solenoid probably isn't working and you are going to have to take the panel off the door to get in and either replace or detach it. If you can get access also try hosing down the whole latch inside, and where the jaws are on the side of the door with white lithium grease to help things move (don't use WD40, it washes the grease out of the mechanism).
