In my 50's I noticed I was starting to swell in my legs, skinny jeans were the thing and I noticed they were tighter by the afternoon. I thought it was just due to my sedentary job. I would tell my doctor, but he would say I was probably getting too much salt. I thought I was eating well, home cooking more and cutting out processed foods. As I crept into my 60's and now retired, I would have days where I would swell so badly that I was terribly uncomfortable, my whole body was getting in on it now. I had blood work done and found I am now pre-diabetic. Having no desire to take synthetic lab created medications, I plan on letting food by my medicine. I have cut out white store-bought bread products and this has really helped. I notice less swelling now, so I am doing my own food elimination tests to see what works best for me. It is hard, but doctors don't have all the answers and we have to do our own due diligence in regard to our own health. I love your channel and your recipes!

I have been doing intermittent fastening for the past 2weeks. I struggled in the beginning with hunger and constipation so I started eating more spinach which helped alot. I don't weight myself but my body feels so much lighter. Yes drinking water has helped alot with my hunger and I eat more veges instead of rice, potatoes etc. I eat more berries rather my favorite which is mangoes 😢 Overhaul, I feel great internally and my cognition has been better. I love your videos as always

I just commented and then scrolled down and read your post here… I am 68, very healthy but my blood sugars were creeping up too. I very recently invested my own money in a company where I can purchase and wear a continuous glucose monitor and I can monitor my blood sugar in their app. It is insane how much I have learned in the last 10 days alone about my body’s reaction to food, sleep, exercise and stress. I love my general practitioner but I also just started seeing a wellness doctor who specializes in functional medicine. It’s like my new doctor helps me never need to see a lsick doctor! She was wall over me wanting to get a CGM but they aren’t covered by insurance. Best out of pocket money I have ever spent! Good luck on your journey too.

I am 67 years old and have been doing intermittent fasting for two years now off and on. Mostly on because I am reaping many benefits. I deal with acid reflux and take two medication’s for that, inflammation in my lower back and migraines . I’m a morning person start my day with coffee smoothie 5 km walk etc. so I do my intermittent fasting in the evenings. I’m in bed by nine so it’s quite easy for me to have my last meal at 1 o’clock and don’t eat again until 8 the next morning. I make my main meal and eat it at lunchtime. Example potatoes, salmon vegetables. I don’t feel I am eating any less calories throughout the day. I feel more energized when I’m fasting and I get very few migraines ,less inflammation and I do not go to bed with acid reflux. It’s working for me. I highly recommend trying this.

Hi Dani, I'm 70 and not fasting by choice because of the pressure in my double hernia. I only eat dinner, then wake up in the morning with bad stomach cramps all day. I ate a whole can of pineapple thinking that would clean me out, but instead my stomach cramps went away in less than an hour. Then found out pineapple will digest protein, which makes me think I'm not digesting protein. I've been drinking a cup of pineapple juice every night before bed for a week and no more gut problems.

I’m so glad you talked about this. I started fasting 2 years ago when I found out I was prediabetic. I absolutely love this lifestyle! I fast 18-20 hours every day, with a 24-hour thrown in once in a while. I’m still working up to a 36-hour fast, I can barely make it 24 hours. I highly recommend this lifestyle. Not prediabetic any longer. 😊

This video is very timely for me. I'm 61-years-old old and my food journey for the past 5 years has had many ups and downs.Keeping a food journal has helped to nail down the foods I need to eliminate from my diet. Three months ago I decided to cut out gluten and started somewhat intermittent fasting, ensuring at least 6 hours between meals. No snacking. My body only needs 2 meals a day. Already I see the swelling and bloating decreasing. I've always loved cooking and preparing meals, so that is not a hardship for me. While I do want to lose weight, right now my focus is on being healthy in my later years. Thanks, Dani!

I have just begun making lifestyle changes to be healthier and in better shape physically. One of the changes I have made is to not eat anything after 7:00 p.m. at night....and I will usually eat breakfast around 8:00 a.m...if hungry. If I am not hungry, I will wait until I am to eat. I am 72 years old and this pattern works very well for me. I try to make certain to get enough protein in during the day,eat healthy foods,exercise,etc....feeling pretty good so far. I do feel better not eating late at night, so this is a plus for me. Thank you for the video. It contained a lot of helpful information.

Grehlin (hunger hormone) response is my signal. Ex: Wake @ 6:30 . . . 10:30-11am eat lightly, protein focus, HB egg or smoothie w/nuts/avocado/protein powder. 2pm eat lightly protein focus w/fruit or lactose MAYBE just because there is time to burn it off. 6pm dinner, protein focus and green leafy/broccoli. Day is often topped with a ‘good pop’ chocolate fudgesicle - not perfect yet YUM ! My weight is stable and low for my midget height around 102-103. Believe me if I gain 1-3 pounds it affects the diaphragm so it’s a must to stay low and hydrated. Thank you Dani, you and your family are always in my prayer and happy thoughts!

For anyone considering it, I'd highly recommend starting with 12 hours and doing that for a week or two, with no snacking between meals. Then work up from there. I started fasting almost 2 months ago. The scale hasn't moved much BUT I do have an autoimmune disease (psoriasis) and have noticed a HUGE difference in my flare ups. Even my mom noticed - she was kind of rolling her eyes when I told her I was fasting but now she's thinking wow maybe its helping you!! In the past 12+ years of being diagnosed I haven't seen such an improvement without my topicals. Currently doing a 16:8 fast. I have been thinking of doing 20:4 maybe in the next couple weeks to see if it will accelerate weight loss.

I started fasting for weight loss purposes back in January and it’s completely changed my life and my confidence. I feel like I’ve found something that works with my life and my body and now it feels effortless. I’ve not only lost 36lbs, I also just generally feel the best I’ve felt in probably a decade. The redness in my face has also drastically improved and I think it has to do with lowering inflammation. I started out doing 16:8, then 18:6, and now I’m doing approximately 24-40 hour fasts every other day. I make sure to drink a lot of water and electrolytes every day as well. I feel like my relationship with food is in a much healthier place than it once was. Intermittent fasting has been a really amazing tool for me and it’s turned out to be far more rewarding than I expected.

I am so happy I found your channel. I am 68 and always ate well (healthy) but just a little too much. With that being said over the past two years my fasting blood sugar went from 99 to 109. I just paid privately to a company who provides continuous glucose monitor and app. I can’t believe how much information I am getting about how food impacts my blood sugar and how in real time I see the GOOD exercise is doing for me. I want to keep improving my gut health too and I am very seriously considering working my way up to a six to eight hour eating window. Right now I fast 14-15 hours and eat for 9-10 hours. This is very easy for me. Once I get a better handle on my best blood sugar friendly meals and foods (via my CGM) I think I can better transition to a smaller eating window. Thanks BTW for the collagen powder in coffee tip… I am working hard on trying to get sufficient proteins in and that really helped breakfast 👍🙌

Thanks for this info Dani! You hit all the important points in a simple, easy to understand manner. I have done intermittent fasting, and lost weight fairly quickly. I appreciate your caution about what type of food you chose to eat though. When I ate healthy, I felt better, but the times I ate less well, I didn’t feel so good. I also found that it was helpful to adjust my eating window to my activity level. Less active days, l fasted longer. More active day, I needed to eat earlier in the day. I am currently not fasting as often, because of changing circumstances, but definitely will get back into it soon when life settles down a bit. By the way, the weight did not come back when I stopped, I believe mostly because I continued to eat healthy and stay away from processed foods. Healthy pattern, healthy life. Thanks again!

When I do eat food it is not the best of choices. I must force the habit of eating protein and veggies. And force it hard! Rating a (pbj or salami and cheese sandwich is never a option) Perhaps I will feel better. Maybe? Btw, I want to be around. I will mot off myself. On top of everything I have a brother with MS. I let the fasting get out of control. Lost too much weight and my energy plummeted. It's as if I'm relearning to eat. Often I'd skip my one meal and tell myself I'll eat tomorrow. I'm 63.

You mean forward slash…not back slash. What you are showing on the screen is a forward slash but you are reading it out as back slash

Give Emily some grace. She has a big plate that’s full. It includes many more things than posting timely vlogs. Settle down with the criticisms and enjoy her content when she has time to post a vlog. smh 🤦‍♀️

While it can be great a great tool for weight loss for some people, especially snackers IF is not magic. Your body can still store fat without presence of insulin through other hormones, and the only thing that decides if you are losing or gaining fat is energy balance. What macronutrient your body is using at the moment doesn't matter in the long term The growth hormone benefits are also not something you should be looking for with, IF as spikes do not transcend to higher average GH levels at all. Authopagy is a real thing although , you get benefits of it just by being physically active and strength training. As for building muscle IF isn't ideal because you are reducing the amount of times a day where you consume protein and muscle protein synthesis can occur (although many people have build great physiques while intermittent fasting). So, IF isn't unhealthy, we are mammals we don't need to eat 5 times a day, but the So called health benefits of IF are greatly exaggerated by people who promote it in media

This is well said! Thank you for sharing - you’re made some great points in my IMO. There is no magical one way solution when it comes to health and weight. It’s such a personal journey and we have to stay open to what that looks like for each of us

@CleanandDeliciousDani yeah of course! I'm absolutely not hating on IF or people who promote it, just pointing out what science and actual human randomised control trials say about it, as many youtubers were promoting it as a magic solution for everything. It seems like carnivore diet took its place lately :)
