When shifting gears my trans been grinding for years on my 404 1962 IH. Installed new clutch and it was worse. Found the problem was the pilot bushing. So I reamed out the bushing and problem was gone.
Yes took care of the problem, but the IH 404 has to have the clutch depressed for 10 sec before you can shift without grinding, inherent for this tractor.
@@johnandrew5742 Thanks for that reply. I have the spinning gears that cause a grind. Doesn't do it when the sump oil is cold ( winter temps). Its annoying when using a loader. I'll have to learn to live with it.
