We changed out a clutch and ring gear on a 574 International tractor. It's the same clutch and process used on the IH and CaseIH 84, 85, 95, 4010 and C series tractors.
Yeah, it was a loooong winter, terrible cold spring here, snow in May (YUCK!) and then some work projects to get done before anything interesting came along. Thanks for hanging in there!
Hey, a great reminder on not drawing the tractor together with bolts. I once worked with some guys that did that on a Ford Major. We split the tractor again the next day and replaced the damage. Sometimes quicker is not better.
Hi, great video. I noticed the clutch return spring is missing on the 574, not good as that allows the throughout bearing to turn all the time. On my brother's 495 CIH had a new "improved" throughout bearing that was designed to turn all the time but it only lasted about 3 years. We then changed the clutch, pressure plate, pilot bearing and put the original style throughout bearing with a new clutch return spring and it is still working 20 years later.
Having the right jacks and some tools to work with makes a huge difference. I actually like changing clutches in these tractors, they are pretty easy to work with. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video. how much free play should the lever at the pedal linkage have? my clutch will not engage until the pedal is all the way out. I was hopping there was some adjustment for this?
These clutches have no free-play, the release bearing rests against the pressure plate all the time. With the clutch pedal linkage you can adjust the clutch pedal height. Thanks for watching!
Hi my mate has a 785 and it makes a tapping noise from the back end when you put the torque converter in high what would you think is making the noise thanks, enjoyed vid 👍
Not so much, Mahindra is a big company and had made a couple of IH models under licence when they started making tractors but they didn't take over IH. IH sold out to Tenneco who also owned Case and they merged the companies into CaseIH who then sold to Fiat. Thanks for watching!

Hey Dave Great video!! I have a 2500a that has brake problems, I watched ur video about that, probably "o" rings? Anyway I have to split this machine, have never done this. Do you have a longer video of the 574 clutch job, that maybe shows starting the split, up to the clutch job? Thanks.
Unfortunately that is the only clutch video I have for that series of tractors and I did rather gloss over splitting the tractor a bit, sorry. Thanks for watching!
I'm replacing a worn clutch on a 454 and the clutch plate the CASE dealer sourced looks like the UK version whereas the one that came off is the US version (or visa versa). Other than a different mounting bolt pattern that seems to be accommodated on the flywheel and will this make much difference?
Hello. Amazing videos. used as tutorials. My international 584 gives alot of vibration after overhaul and flywheel change . Engine balancer was adjusted but still. any ideas. thanks in advance
Tried to split a 585 4x4 but won't go past 1-2 inches. Wondering if driveshaft could be an issue even tho it slides in sleeve. Does it matter which end is pulled?
It shouldn't matter which end is disconnected as long as it will slide on the spline. I usually drop the shaft out of the way. That happens frequently to me as well, check thoroughly for wires, fuel lines, throttle linkages, etc. I most often miss something I have to unhook before I can finish splitting. :) Good luck and thanks for watching!
I have an old 1970, international 434 that need clutch replacement. I remove the front loader and I'm ready to split it, but there is no room between the oil pan and the rear part of the tractor to install the rolling jack, can I install the jack right underneat the oil pan or do I need a spécial bracket .
Good day Good video. How many hrs. roughly were on it. You know when we had farm, W-6, 4, we greased release bearing, never done it on 574, I guess next time out I will have too. How much for clutch, & works Thanks
I'm not sure if there is a set number but this one was on it's fourth go around and the machine shop said this would be the last trip. Thanks for watching!
Hi i put a new cluth in a 678 international tractor and it will not go into gear and i have a good pedal and i made sure the parts are in correctly it will go in gear with engine off but not go in gear with engine on so can you help me
You're going to have to split the tractor again, it sounds to me like the disk got jammed and warped when you were putting the tractor back together. Thanks for watching!
@@CanadianRedneck15 ok thanks i will have to open it again so you think the disk is warped so thats why it wont go into gear you would think the pressure plate would squesse the disk so hard that the warped would go out of it
I'm sorry, this is the only clutch video I have on these tractors at the moment. Adjust the clutch link between the pedal and the release bearing shaft so that the top of the pedal is about even with the bottom of the tin cover over the transmission tunnel. Thanks for watching!
