+autumn in april Exactly the same with me autumn. I just loved it when I heard it in 2003. It was just like nothing else I'd heard before. I loved the Bass line as well. The bass is so mesmerizing. I love the little staccato bursts, the octaves, everything.
A drummer in a band never really stands out to me as being an irreplaceable piece. But fuck man that drummer is really good. I've rarely if ever seen someone play like that to where it's insanely noticeable
@@mrtaytogaming matt is insane...however he can only really show that in the studio, he couldn't stay on tempo when playing live to save his life, still insanely good... Thats why bloc party always sounded raw live
AND ISN'T THAT AMAZING? That's one of the reasons why I love them, they could be my school's band! Well, maybe if they didn't write such lyrics as in "stella was a diver...". I think the teachers wouldn't like them :P
One of the greatest songs indeed..simple yet great and thats what interpol does. No one writes tunes like them. There are thousands of more technically advanced bands who basically make shit tunes inspite of all their so called "technical ability" (which in itself is not impressive in the slightest) which does not mean anything if you cannot create something that moves you. Interpol is on another level of songwriting which was only matched by couple of bands in 00s.
+Yessica Villegas I know Carlos D didn't get that his contribution to interpol's sound was crucial. He used a Fender Jazz bass with a pick and a very clean tone. He does so many cool little things on the bass that just make this song. From what I read, Carlos was not happy "Just being the bass player," and decided to quit. The band was never the same. Paul Banks said in confusion "I mean It[bass] is a major harmonic component." I understand why bass players feel underappreciated in rock music, having played both guitar and bass in many types of bands, but the bass fills a pocket of sounds that only the kick drum really can compete with. You man not always be thinking about the bass sound in a song, but once it is removed you realize that something is definitely missing. And shamefully, Carlos D had such amazing bass lines that threw in bass riffs in between the other instrumental parts, which was nothing short of genius. This song is a perfect example of Carlos' style. The same is true with Incubus. After their original bassist Dirk Lance left circa 2002, Incubus was never the same. Losing a bassist can really affect a band. Luckily when Tool fired their original bassist Paul D'Amour after their first album, they were lucky enough to find Justin Chancellor who is an amazing bassist, albeit very different in tone and style than Paul. So to reiterate my point when tool switched bass players it totally changed their sound. Pre-Aenima Tool has a much crunchier pick bass guitar tone.
+john tandberg You put that very well, good sir. I always had trouble picking up the bass whenever I was listening to a song. My friends who are all more musically inclined than me would be like "dude listen to that bass line" and I would have to really strain my ears to get what they were talking about, and even then I wasn't sure if I was hearing what I was supposed to. Carlos D completely changed that for me. His style is so distinct and captivating that once you register his bass lines/riffs it's practically impossible to get lost in any other component of the music without the bass calling you back. It truly is sad if he felt underappreciated.
I saw them live in Houston back in November and I have to say it was one of the best concerts I've ever been to. His voice sounds no different live. It sounds like you're listening to it through your phone. It's so clear and amazing. One of my favorite bands.
+Mr. Brown I clicked this link to find out if his voice was really that good. I think the answer is no, his voice is *better live* because he can sort of do what he wants rather than stick to exact production. I don't know the correct terms for the thing I am trying to convey, but it is good to know Interpol sounds better (in my opinion) live than in a recording studio. How many bands can claim that in recent years?
durbeyfield oh for sure man. Carlos D had the most amazing bass lines. Some of the best Music I heard at the time. Turn on the bright lights and antics were pure awesome. But he left. And honestly i heard one of his interviews about all of it. He didn't even know who Carlos D was. (Himself) it was all a blur to him. He said the words "I was tired of being a rockstar". Don't really know what was going on between Paul and him but it was really fucking up things. He left in 2010 I think right as they were recording their new album. He never finished the album with them but he did give them all his bass lines for the songs he did record. When the album came out he didn't know what he was listening to because none of his work was in the album. He did leave the band afterall but there is a reason they are not as good.
I've seen these guys live three times and they are amazing! This song is one of my favorites. Love the bass lines (too bad Carlos D left) and Sam Fogarino is an amazing drummer.
Jesus effing Christ this is one of the most awesome sounding songs ever written. I can’t stop listening to this. The drums are so sick. Everything about this song is sick. I can’t wait to see them with Morrissey in September.
Paul and co. put on an absolutely stellar performance, there's no doubt about that, but I extend my props to the audio engineers that were present that night. THIS is exactly how music should sound.
I’ve only found this song fairly recently, and it quickly became one of my favourites. Unfortunately, I’ll have to admit that I haven’t listened to enough material from this group, but now I plan to do so. I hope everyone else enjoys as well!
God, Interpol just blows every other band away.If there were any other groups of equal talent. There aren't. Or very few. Also Carlos D. Is the best bassist i have ever seen.Jack bruce not withstanding.
YESSS!!! I remember playing this on World Tour! It sucks because everyone gave up on Guitar Hero and now they got Just Dance. How could people go from Guitar Hero to dancing games?!!
Freelance Gaming World Tour was the first Guitar Hero game my family ever purchased, it was when we purchased the Xbox 360 for the first time in fall 2008. We poured so many hours into that game and we had a lot of fun. The following year we got Guitar Hero 5 but for me World Tour was where the party was at. My Mother would play World Tour all night long, I would download player-created songs from the marketplace. Yup, I found out about Interpol through playing Obstacle 1 on World Tour and I thought it was a pretty good song.
It is a real crime that they, having only the guilt of being born too great, have been condemned by music critics to remain forever linked to "Turn On The Brights Lights", obscuring all their subsequent masterpieces, which would have given so much joy. to all those who begin to know them only now!
