Hi my friends!
In this episode I travel to Sweden and interview one of the executives of a leading Swedish flightschool.
The interview is based on the questions the YOU sent me. There was not enough time to cover all the questions in one interview but you can ask away in the comments below and they have promised to try and answer. If the feedback is good enough, I might do a second interview! ;)
Enjoy!

Thank you so much for doing this. You covered up the most important questions and I think it really helped us out. I'm relieved and gained some fresh energy out of this. Here in Germany the pilots I spoke to always said that the market is in a really bad condition for years and that I should do something else instead. One pilot was working for Air Berlin and I understood that he was not only referring to the pay to fly system.

This was just amazing mentour!! I am currently taking ppl course in Honduras Central America, at the same time working on my bachelors degree. I hope I have great job opportunities after I am done with my licenses and converting them to FAA afterwards. Just to let you know ppl course here in Honduras is about 7500 US dollars for about 40-50 hours actual flight time. You are awesome Mentour! Keep it up.

I don't see how there isn't a huge shortage of pilots! Its ridiculously expensive, even more so in the US when your first job pays less than a cleaner. I have seen here in the UK that there is a little more support.

Fact: A flight school in England will cost you more than 100k euros and it will take almost 4 years to gain a pilot's licence. In Greece, it takes only 1 year and the cost is around 50k euros. Not to mention living costs etc. I only talked about tuition fees!

Thank you Mentour Pilot, awesome video as always! I have a couple of questions: Is it really worth going to the USA to get the licence and then come back to Europe and have to re-do the exams etc? And the question that interests me more: I’ve always wanted to be a comercial pilot but I never had the money, and since I was doing pretty well as an engineer I kept it as a dream. Now that I’m 40 I have the money and I am very tempted to pursue that childhood dream. Should I give it a go? Or is it too late? I’m sure I’m not the only one in this situation... Thank you very much and keep up with the good work!

Hej!
@JLiljeroth
@JLiljeroth 8 лет назад

Hi Mentour, I am a 15 year old that goes to a high school in America (Pennsylvania)(10th Grade). I Really want to be a pilot but i'm extremely scared that if i do chose to be one i will fail. The problem with me is I am HORRIBLE at math and therefore physics but i love everything about the career of being a pilot. also do you think it necessary to have a bachelor's degree because i don't fell like a university is my thing i'm barely pulling threw high school as it is (B-,C+) . do you think it matters what flight school you go to, like will it make a difference if i apply for a job. Finally I don't wanna be working for an airline, I think i would do better flying people in a Private jet(I believe its called flying corporate) any down sides to it. Thanks Mentour, Alex (what do i do for 3 years to keep driving my passion for flying and cars)
@RedSailor1701
@RedSailor1701 6 лет назад
Wow, sorry I'm replying a year later! First of all, I'm not sure how it works in the US, but in the UK you have to have 5 GCSEs (minimum of a C in Maths, English, Science and 2 others.) That's it for the Cadet programs through CTC Aviation (L3 Training) You can also apply with a minimum of a 2:2 degree. (I decided uni wasn't for me) If you want to fly corporate then you'll need a CPL (Commercial Pilots Licence) possibly an ATPL if you're carrying passengers, I'm not sure as I've learnt about Airline career and not this sector. Either way, If you go to a training school and come out the other side with a licence you'll then apply for aviation job like you would any other job. All careers in Aviation have downsides, do your proper research before picking your field. Drive your passion? That should be inside you naturally, your dream will do that for you. If you wanna get ahead of the game, pick up some books on flying, try your hand at a flying simulator (FSX is pretty cheap and doesn't need a machine to run it.)

So if a pilot with an FAA ATPL license were to seek employment in Europe, despite having their own type rating and experience, they are still required to do all 14 ATPL papers again? That seems very discouraging for American pilots.
@OSMAviationAcademy
@OSMAviationAcademy 7 лет назад
Hi David, that is actually not true. If you have an FAA ATP and a VALID typerating + 500 hrs on type, you can convert to EASA more easily. You will still have to write the 14 ATPL(A) exams, but you get away without needing any ground school (although I would still recommend it). Thereafter all you will need is a skill test and your conversion process will be completed. There are probably examiners in the US that can assist you with the skill test for the conversion. The ATPL(A) exams could be written at our base in San Diego or at another EASA approved flight school in the US. If you want more info on this just send an e-mail to info@bfsaa.se I hope this was encouraging and helpful!

@MarcoValgimigli
@MarcoValgimigli 8 лет назад
Hi! I think it all depends on your attitude towards studying. I suggest you to start with both the degree and the ppl course, which could also be helpful for you to understand if flying would actually be your career.
@OSMAviationAcademy
@OSMAviationAcademy 7 лет назад
As Stein mentions in the video, having a degree will allow you to have something to fall back on if you want to change careers later on or if recruitment is slow when you graduate. If you are convinced that becoming a pilot is what you really want however, you will be able to enter the job market sooner if you start flight training right away. There are pro's and con's with both choices. If you are unsure we recommend attending an information event at a flight school and talking to people who are working as pilots. Listen to and seek advice, but make sure you are honest with yourself and your own wishes and ambitions for the future.
