I have an Idea,.. how about a key.... That you have to put into the ignition... With a key fob button to unlock and lock......

Thank you Richard for all your hard work and effort... I don't think our Gov, Police Forces, Courts or Manufacturers have done enough to stem the tide of car thefts in this country, nor do I think they recognise that having any car stolen is utterly heartbreaking for any family, not to mention the stress and costs involved, therefore I would ask that everyone concerned write to their MP asking for this issue to be addressed urgently in the HoC.

Great work Richard, you are a real champion for the cause. You have virtually single handedly put JLR on notice to solve the security and insurance problems. The problem they face in London is not a global problem as yet, hence I get the impression from JLR is that it’s not that serious because it’s only mainly a UK thing and not a global problem. When it catches on in other parts of the world maybe they’ll spend £20m to fix it!

It doesn't help that the police are doing nothing to catch the gangs, this is organised crime and many get exported to Africa. Sadly police doing nothing and insurance companies have had enough.

Since it is a legal requirement to have insurance, the manufacturer should either be forced to supply the insurance at their expense or be banned from selling the vehicles. A family member was quoted £5k+ to insure his Range Rover Velar SV with Ghost, up from £1200 the previous year. Sold the Velar bought a nearly new SQ7 and insured for less than £1k. JLR will surely be bankrupt if they don’t realise how their loyal customers are being traumatised by insurance ridiculousnesses!

Many thanks for continuing to push this Richard. The more press coverage the more pressure on JLR. Just rechecked my insurance costs - 2016 RR Autobiography, London - quote of £6k - double the best quote from Dec - so absolutely no sign of insurance premiums having peaked yet. Harsh choice in the current situation is whether to sell up and take the hit on resale value or just continue to suck up the annual insurance premiums. Both a total dereliction of customer service by JLR. On the plus side - the more thefts the smaller the remaining retrofit problem for JLR - double win for them? Oh the irony…

Great work Richard. Keep exposing JLR until they act. Particularly for pre 2018 Range Rovers and their own insurance which is a waste of time

It’s amazing how many people who don’t own Range Rovers are experts on how expensive it is to insure a Range Rover. Half the cars in the Cheshire and Surrey are Range Rovers and somehow they all end up with insurance. Thier owners do what everyone else does and shop around. I live just outside London and I pay £1,200 to insure my 17 plate 4.4 Autobiography. It’s just like any other car, sometimes you have to put a bit of work in to get the right price.

I tried to get insurance on a 2022 Range Rover sport yesterday. Most insurance companies refused to insure it and I eventually found a company that would insure it for £6500 a year. I live in rural Kent. Looking to park it in my garage and get something else till the depreciation slows down (if it ever does). I don’t see any progress on the insurance front at all.

I hate to point out the obvious but ALL keyless entry fobs should have an ON/OFF switch on them so it isolates the battery. 1: it saves hassle of placing fob in a faraday case. 2; increases the life of the battery especially the spare key. Folk don't read the owners manuals so they are never going to remember the sequence of button presses to disable keyless function. No one needs tuition on operating a Fob on/off switch now do they ?⚠️ Just imagine how many cars could have been prevented from being stolen if my idea was implemented years ago, granted it's only one avenue of theft. Keyless entry is nothing new. My 2002 Merc SL55 has it which I disabled when it was new because I could forsee the problems with that system.

I have just determined that I can lease a new BMW i7 (a >£100,000 car), including insurance, for less per year than the cost of just insuring my Range Rover......crazy. Like others here, my RR is going and I will lease for a bit I think. Can't see myself retunring to a JLR product any time soon.

Mixed feelings about this one Richard the more publicly the topic gets media wise can only stir things up more. On the other hand positively it puts pressure on JLR to get their fingers out.

Hi Richard. As a Land Rover owner with pivipro perhaps it’s my settings but I can’t access the pivipro without Entering a 4 digit code and an even longer one to access elexer. Why not update the system so the car will not start with out entering a PIN number. Easy sota update. Top work thanks

JLR insurance simply didn’t give a quote for 2016 Range Rover , they said the cover is eligibility based and not guaranteed. Can they atleast provide the insurance by speaking to the underwriters to ensure every owner gets the insurance at the better pricing or simply the range rover to be sold and they say indirectly don’t drive or pay for the mountain level insurance rates which is more or less half the price of the car.

RICHARD, easy fix : FORD vehicles have keys that SLEEP if left undisturbed for 40 seconds. NO SCAN SIGNAL ! Ford are years ahead

It's the manufacturers who are to blame due to all the nonsense tech they are building into cars. You don't get this particular problem with conventional lock and keys which have a transponder in them which has to be in very close proximity to the lock. For instance, a correct key will turn in the lock and lights come on, but without the transponder which is coded to the car it will not crank and start. Pretty unbeatable. Another manufacturer is well known for it's electronic hand brakes releasing themselves. Is there something wrong with pulling a handbrake lever? The worst thing I know of from a Japanese car steering lock problem Normally when you remove the key after parking a spring loaded bolt locks the steering wheel. Not with this one, it has an electric motor to perform that little task. The only problem is that it is known to do it by itself when you are driving! Madness.

Just turn off keyless entry,

All the newer ones have GPS tracking on them plus a lot are Hybrid which is a lot better for the environment, I did not find my insurance was very high as I also had 4 of my family insurance on it just over a thousand for two cars admittedly one is an older convertible .

Hi Richard, update on my 2017 Vogue 4.4 SE. Esure have just issued my fully comp renewal for £1280 which under the present circumstances seems reasonable albeit double last year's premium. My car is fitted with LandRover remote and I have just been asked for £260 to renew it. JLR has done nothing to help me so far so do you think that they would renew my remote as goodwill.

Aren’t JLR like many other vehicle manufacturer’s very intelligent and innovative, spending a relatively small amount of money to resolve a problem of their own making and invention🤦‍♂️. Surely the only function of a security device, a door lock in layman’s terminology is to make the vehicle secure and safeguard it against being stolen? It appears to me that JLR are more spending more time, effort and money attempting to control the PR narrative than actually solving the issue, could they be anymore patronising and dismissive of the vehicle owners

This theft issue has a simple solution: First of all, JLR are perfectly aware of how these cars are being stolen. JLR can ask electronic module manufacturers in Taiwan, Japan, USA, Germany etc to come up with a redesigned ignition module that cannot be easily copied and offer a brand new pair of keys to their customers and charge them something like £500 or so and fit them at their own site for them. When mass produced the modules will cost less than £50 and keys are not expensive either. Just give customers appointments for one hour and replace them. It creates jobs for JLR as well.

Does anyone actually feel bad for the people who own Range Rover 😂😂😂😂😂 I don’t . They can afford it
