Hello, nice job about your intex boat, I also did modifications of boat excursion 5. I also made hard floor but my design is different. I used long wooden boards and to them I screwed another boards positioned sideways. I also used soft pipe isolation for the edges of the floor and I put cloth only underneath. I also put custom motor mount screwed to the hard floor and tested 25hp old outboard on my excursion 5. I have a video on my profile everyone can see.

Wait a second, why not use PIPES instead of wood? Thick insulated pipes add buoyancy as well. This is what I'll be using.

Pipes are a good alternative as long as they are strong enough not to be bent while you stand on the board.

Cool build and thanks for making the video. You could probably avoid the railings poking into the bottom when you stand on the inner edge of the aft and stern pieces by adding intersecting railings to the bottom of the center piece I think.

Thanks for the comment. I am sure there could be other better alternatives. :-)

Hello, thanks for sharing your video. What type of glue did you use for the foam?
@theeggheadlabs
@theeggheadlabs 2 года назад
Thanks for watching. The glue was Behr's Waterproofing Sealer. The link is listed in the description.

I just bought the excursion 4 and want to put a floor on. Due to storage and portability I will need to have 3 sections like yours. But I don't think I will have enough room in the car if I were to put rails on like you did. They look great, and I wish I could, but I wouldn't be able to fit them will all my other gear. Do you think this would be sturdy enough without the rails. Maybe using 1/2" ply wood? I also thought about using the foam pipe covering all all edges of each section and not just around the perimeter. Do you think that might help with stability if I don't use rails? thank you in advance for your advice and wisdom!

I am glad to hear that you are working on a similar floor plan with three sections. Without the rails, I am afraid the three pieces of floor sections would not be sturdy enough, especially while you step on the edge, unless the floor is a whole piece. I understand that you would have 3 sections for easy storage. Here is my 2 cents idea, without the rails while still achieving the needed stability, by installing some type of hinges or fasteners between any two sections. Hope this helps. Good luck!

hey i did a project like this couple of years ago. what i ended up doing is I used 3/4 inch plywood cut in two pieces. to make it feel like one piece you will need stringers on the edges connecting the two pieces of plywood. I bought 1" round aluminum stock 12" long and cut square groove 3/4 " in it. I also added H-profile 3/4" to seamlessly join two pieces. It works fantastic for me. I never had time to make a video of it but I hope you got the idea. If i have to do it once more I would probably go with 1/2" plywood and added three 1x3" ribs to the floor because 3/4 plywood is a bit heavy.

What are you using to inflate your boat? The small 12v one I bought takes forever so I just do it by hand.

INTEX Electric Pump (rechargeable). See the part 2 of this series.

We use a Ryobi high volume inflator we will soon put up a video on this and on how our whole boat fits in a Husky rolling toolbox.

You think I can make a sturdy two piece floor without the beams under the board?
@theeggheadlabs
@theeggheadlabs 2 года назад
Yes, two-piece floor can be sturdy as long as it is think enough. My goal was lightweight.
