I upgraded my pool pump to the intex sand filter pump Krystal clear 16 inch because it comes with a leaf trap. The Intex 16 inch and it has more power for pool vacuuming, pool skimming and keeping the water Krystal Clear. In addition when you shock the pool it takes only one night to clean the pool with this pump. Of course the pool capacity is also important, but this intex sand filter pump 16 inch has power, and is very effective, but it may also chug more electricity.

I have a intex sand filter and when I use the backwash it does not spit the water out at a high speed when I turn Motor on? I feel like it's not back washing properly.

If the pump is new I think you should try and get a replacement. Not sure where you purchased it from. but if you can maybe try and have it replaced. as I said in the previous I saw people complaining that the 6 way valve was mismatched, or damaged. I do not think is a good idea to try and fix it as long as you can opt for a replacement. Especially if you got it online or amazon when you could just opt for the replacement. You could also try and speak with the Manufacturer. But not sure if they would help immediately.

@@RoamingInterests Ok I finally figured it out lol I had the "in" and the "out" hoses hooked up backwards somehow. Now it has really good pressure and backwashes great.

Cool troubleshooting. So you were taking water in the pump with one hose, and pushing in the pool by two hoses?
@midbladeGoA
@midbladeGoA 3 года назад
@@RoamingInterests I had the short hose plugged into the "out" leg and the outflow hose that pushes water into pool going into the "in" leg. So I think the pump was pulling water into the bottom of the sand container then exiting through the top.

I think I understand. But here is how I understand the PUMP and Pool Connections: There are two Holes in the POOL Liner through which the water flows into the pump from the pool. Also those two holes are lower in the liner than the hole trough which the water returns into the pool. The Higher single hole connects to the PUMP out port. The two lower holes connect to TWO small hoses which connect to a Split T that connects into the short hose in the IN part of the Pump. The water gets into the pump from the pool through the two holes. What you were describing: Now If the short hose was plugged into the out of the pump it would still work if it also was connected into the Higher single hole in the pool liner, and the long hose was connected to the IN of the pump, but connected to the two Lower holes in the pool liner. FYI there are two holes because there is a Law to prevent hair pulling and skin pulling for the big powerful pumps to prevent injuries while enjoying the pool. it is a safety feature.

Thanks for the video! We watched several others before, and they didn't help as much as yours. I particularly appreciated how you kept the camera back far enough for us to see the entire setup, ...something the other videos did NOT do, and that you completed the setup pretty much according to the included manufacturer's instructions. Also, something the other videos did not do, as they seemed more interested in explaining how they McGyver'd their setup. I am not McGyver. Big thumbs up! 👍

i have the same filter. i’m having trouble with the sand though. when i put it on the filter setting, sand comes out and into the pool. i just got the sand filter, so i doubt that a lateral is broken. can you help?
@RoamingInterests
@RoamingInterests 4 года назад
Did you backwash the pump? Of the sand is new you have to first back wash. It takes a bit of time for the water to become clear. Only the you should try to filer. Also in the middle pipe you should not have any sand. If you mistakenly added sand in the middle pipe then that may be the issue. Someone else had a similar problem putting sand in the pool on filter and filtering on backwashing. My suggestion of that may be the case to take the sixway valve apart and try to set it on the proper setting.

Hi, Just purchased a 16" intex sand filter and wanted to build that dolly platform you have in your video. So I can put it away in the the end of the season. Do you have a video or parts that you used to make it. Thank you
@RoamingInterests
@RoamingInterests 3 года назад
I actually had a dolly and some plywood on top of it. and I temporarily used some ratchets to hold them the plywood on top of the dolly. I improvised that for the video. I am glad you found use of it. find a cheap dolly and a piece of plywood. You choice on how to secure the plywood. I did not leave the pump on the dolly. I went to a big box store and asked for a pallet, and place the pump on top of it. you can use a pallet so the water doesn't pool around the pump, a pallet keeps it elevated. Big box stores will give you a pallet or half pallet for free. You can combine the dolly with the pallet. But also over an entire season the dolly might sink into the earth if you do not have like a slab on top of which to place the dolly or the pump or the pallet. I would still suggest the pallet, then just keep a dolly around to transport it when you nee to move the pump around.

This was a great video and very informative. This really helped. I have a question. My sand filter pump is going on two years. It’s stayed outside during fall and winter months. I’m getting ready to set up my new above ground pool. Do you think it’s time to change the sand out. Are there any precautions I need to take before getting the pump started up again? Thank you for your input!

I do not remember what the manual or the sand bags said. But I cleaned my smaller pump ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2QPgcXfN6HQ.html before getting the big pump after two months, and there was debris in it like small leaves bugs and the works. It smelled fishy and algaey. However the large pump has a leaf trap which may mitigate but still you can clean it if you feel like it but cannot or should not reuse the sand. The large pump is different because the opening for the 6 way valve is smaller, and taking the sand out may prove a bit difficult. you also need to be mindful about the ribs at the bottom of the sand filer to not break those if you flip the sand filter casing to take the sand out definitely do not pull on the center pipe, take the sand out first - but tape something on the center pipe hole so you do not add sand inside. But I would not reuse the same sand if I would clean it and I would be very careful about the center spine with ribs so they don't get damaged. I have seen in the comments people having trouble with the 6 way valve sometimes make sure you take good care on cleaning that too. Lastly backwash the pump after assembly so you do not make the same mistake as me. Hope this helps.

I have this system and water is coming out of the top of the sand filter. I was told that I have to check my o-ring but my system did not come with an o-ring and I see that you did not use an o-ring either. In your video for a different intex system , you do use a gasket. Is there a gasket we should buy for this system? Someone else told me I have to make sure the clamp is screwed evenly on both sides
@RoamingInterests
@RoamingInterests 2 года назад
I think the o ring may have been attached to the 6 way valve's bottom, and I may have forgotten to present it in the video. I found something online for the 12 and 14 inch pumps. the only way is to risk it and buy it on amazon: "11379, Tank O-Ring for 12in & 14in Sand Filter Pumps and Combo". or also you can go to the big box store and get from the plumbing section gasket material for the sink - this is for the odd shaped under the sink and you can cut if is is big enough and try to cut it to fit the 6 way valve. Those are my two cents. I am assuming that the 6 way valve for the 12, 14, and 16 inch is the same size as well as the circumference of the opening that connects to the sand tank. But I may be wrong. The only way is to risk and buy it, this kit include the tank o ring: www.amazon.com/Intex-Replacement-Gasket-Release-Valve/dp/B00ZIBOGW4/ref=sr_1_3?crid=27U71AHOFW45O&keywords=11379%2C+Tank+O-Ring+for+12in+%26+14in+Sand+Filter+Pumps+and+Combo&qid=1653830920&sprefix=11379%2C+tank+o-ring+for+12in+%26+14in+sand+filter+pumps+and+combo%2Caps%2C212&sr=8-3

Whats the name of the fitting you use to connect the hose to the pool.I just bought a 12 in intex sand filter and a 12 ×32 above ground pool pool
@RoamingInterests
@RoamingInterests 2 года назад
There usually fittings intex 1.25 inch and intex 1.5 inch. your pool should have everything you would need to connect your pump to it. There are 3 connections to be made in the pools the Intex style - 2, 1.25 inch the water is collected into the pump and pushed in the sand filter chamber through them. and the third is where the filtered water is pushed back into the pool. that connnection is 1.5 inch - because the hose is 1.5 inch in diameter but the coupler is 2 inch. You can search online for more fittings or step down or step up fittings.

make sure you got the right pump for the pool
@RoamingInterests
@RoamingInterests 3 года назад
Yea, there are variations to fitting the smaller hoses. Some are 1.25 inch that connect to the pool. these two let the water back into your pump. The pump pushes it back into the pool filtered and that hose is 1.5 inch that connects back into the pool. At least this is with the inexpensive Intex / and replica brands, that use a 40 mm connector and thread, which does not fit the PVC pipe threads. There are adapters that convert down or up from 1.25 to 1.5 inch hoses.

Hello great video. You may have solved my issue with my new sand filter and pump. I have a leak I can not stop. I have an idea it may be the same piece you show being weak and broken. Where did you get you replacement part From? Thank You.
@RoamingInterests
@RoamingInterests 2 года назад
The piece I showed broken was from an older pump. Not from the new pump. you have to find the leak where it comes from, not just speculate. Initially I would suggest to attempt tightening the hose collars, or tighten / verify the screws on the part in question. Additionally if I remember correctly - not sure - it may have a gasket inside. If that gasket is broken - pinched or misaligned it may cause a leak. I hope this may give you some ideas as to where to look. You could attempt unscrewing the part off to verify if there is a gasket and if it is misaligned or pinched or broken. I suggest a manual screwdriver so you do not strip the screws - they do look nasty stripped and they will have sharp edges if stripped. I showed that broken piece to caution everyone that may watch from putting tension on that area.

Great video. Thank you. If you need to change the sand when the pump is connected to the pool is it a water nightmare? Or is there a way to close off the valve so the water does not continuously push/flow from the pool to the pump. I have the same pool with the Intex 12 sand filter pump 2100 GPH
@RoamingInterests
@RoamingInterests 3 года назад
NO it should not be - but it would make your job easier if you have those plunger valves that you ca shut of the water cycle at both ends and disconnect the pump completely. I am not sure but there would be the water in the pump that you would have to deal with and you would have to clean the pump inside and take the debris out from wherever you can reach and take it out. I have a video with cleaning a 10 inch pump if you want to take a look and get some ideas. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2QPgcXfN6HQ.html

How long do I need to let it backwash before the water comes out clean and clear to the pool? I'm having the same issue, Sandy water coming out.
@RoamingInterests
@RoamingInterests 3 года назад
You have to do it until the water comes out clean. Assuming the sand is fresh out of the bags. It will take some water, but you cannot put that in your pool, and if you do it will be great feed for algae to grow and feed, they seem to love minerals like any living green thing. So make sure you loose some water to clean the sand. My pool turned dark green a day or two late after the sand dust got pushed into the pool. So make sure your water comes out clean when you finish backwashing it. Also if you have the big 16 inch pump will tale like 10 minutes or so.

How did you turn your green cloudy pool to blue and clear again? Mine has been running for a couple days now… still green and cloudy.
@RoamingInterests
@RoamingInterests 3 года назад
You have to get algicide and mix it in the pool water pour it in by the return to the pool water valve while the pump is running so it mixes well with the water. wait 4 hours or as per algicide's indications while just running the pump - be a bit generous with the algicide. The algicide will make the algae swell after they are dead then you should shock the pool so the swollen algae will get trapped in the sand filter. so it should get cloud blue and then crystal blue. Also you could also add bleach but I do not know the exact ratios : hypochlorite
@DadBooom
@DadBooom 3 года назад
You do not need algaecide. That's only for preventing it. ONLy chlorine will kill algae. You need to shock it. If it's teal green, use 2x 1lb bags of shock per 10k gallons (if it's 15k, round up to 20k, so 4 bags). If it's dark green, 4 bags of shock/10k; if black, 6 bags of shock/10k. Do it at dusk/night. Next day, brush it thoroughly to loosen up any algae clinging to walls/bottom. You'll need to clean your filter thoroughly through this. Once the color is better, it'll likely still be cloudy - that's small particles of algae your filter isn't picking up. You'll need CLARIFIER for that. That makes the particles clump together so your filter will pick it up. Flocculent is not the same thing - it makes the algae fall to the bottom, so you'll have to vacuum a ton.

@RoamingInterests

you backwash for the dirt to come out and you back wash the new replaced sand to clean out the dust = small particles that need to come out so you don't feed your pool sand dust which will make it green in couple of days because it will feed algae.

I used algicide to get rid of the algae and then two bottles of shook Clorox or any other brand. Algicide needs about 2 to 4 hours to get the job done and algae to swell and then be contained by the sand filter system.

Does this pump works for 18 foot pools??
@RoamingInterests
@RoamingInterests 2 года назад
I think it does. You have to look at the Gallon rating of the pump and the quantity of gallons of an 18 foot pool. That's how you can figure it out. Did a little checking: they say the max size pool is 18000 gal supported by this pump. according to the internet the 16x48 pool takes about 6k gallons of water, so this pump can cycle the water in 2 hours in that pool. so yea it is more than enough, But I used to run it for many hours because I did not take care of the water too well so to clean it I would shock the pool and then leave it overnight, then I would also leave it during the day to clean it up. I hope this clarifies your question. You can also modify your pool and pump unions /joints to have it cycle a bit more water. intex T split joint that has a larger circumference to allow more water trough the hoses.

I see. Those two return hoses that join into the T split joint from 2 out from the pool reduced 2 to 1 by the T joint throw a lot of people off. When I got the pump I was looking at the manual then I decide a to check videos they weren't too many I made mine, for the 10 inch pump ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EU4vxE76nQE.html, then I upgrade to the 16inch and made this one. Now I am assuming you can do it with your eyes closed.
