I'm actually lightning fast with researching, writing and editing. What holds me back is being underestimated and trusting other people.

I find this a little bit funny because, while I definitely like to take my time and do things right the first time, some of my best work is the time pressured work where I'm forced to sit down, prioritize, and get shit done. I'm the guy who can put his emotional panic behind me in an emergency, grab the rudder, and steer us back to a place of sanity and order. I don't know if that's a common trait for INTJs, but I've always found that I learn best when I'm thrown into the fire and told to swim. It's a growth experience, and I enjoy it in a sick sort of way. -Colby Landauer (INTJ)

I was also like you when i was 14, I want perfection in everything but as i grew older( i am 19 now) cuz of this INTJ personality I am facing depression, social anxiety & stress.. which stopped me to do anything

I agree with you. But I think the difference is that we deal good with Contrast, but for sure we don`t like drama 24/7. I have ESTPs, ESTJs and ENTJs in my life and they love to be under pressure all the time! They can`t actually do it any other way. They have to live creating and fixing issues, constant running around, and honestly, when they are bored I see the ESTP adding up drama the the mix so it becomes more exciting. In my case I am great with emergencies and deadlines.. but that is the key, as INTJs we know the difference, that`s why we are so good at prioritizing.

I'm kind of like that, if I'm allowed to work alone. I hate having someone breathe down my neck and freak out while I'm trying to be calm and fix things myself.

That first sentence sums up my life. Professor or hobo. Seriously it’s dead on. I love to learn and give advice. But I also love to to travel solo and camp behind barns on my motorcycle.

I'm an INTJ product designer. To quote a former engineering supervisor. "Dave, you are not our fastest engineer, but your ideas are always well wrought out". None of the injection molds that I designed ever had to be reworked. I helped rework many of the tools designed by my coworkers, sometimes to correct CATASTROPHIC issues. If you have INTJ engineers at your company, just give them the most difficult, most complex problems and then leave them to it.

Languages.. you never stop learning, there is so much depth in every language when you take into account the culture and the area of expertise you need to develop (one thing is to know the language and another one to know legal, medical, literary terms, etc). So you may be able to work as a teacher for basic levels, while developing the other areas. Also, you can be a freelance, if you are a translator you can set up your own time for each project or come to an understanding with each client, but you definetely have more control on your time.

Intj here. Im studying psychology and planning to go into neuroscience (biopsychology) to specialize in Jungian with Dario. I do copywriting and planning to do coding as a money skill. Ive been doing copywriting and direct response for years now and used to make $5000/month leading a team. Freelance is important. I think strength wise is to read and outlearn the competition as NiTe. This mean reading a ton a month and daily.

I’m a gear head INTJ. I build engines, whole cars etc… I got fired from several mechanic jobs because I was too slow. Well sorry! I wanted it perfect!!! Hated being rushed. I then went to college for engineering. And my job does allow me time to think and design smart solutions. Or we’ll it did… until my boss quit. New management was idiotic. And i got fired again after 5 years of success lol. Because I wouldn’t ass kiss and do (fast solutions) where I wanted (permanent solutions)…. Idk what to do now

One more bit of advice. INTJs hate to have other people between them and their goal. Create an environment where INTJs have complete access to the tools they need and just let them go. There is nothing worse than having to wait for someone to do something I could have done faster and better myself.

I agree that aligning one's values with one's career is life saving advice (for an INTJ). A lot of that slowness is due to the aforementioned disharmony. However, as a business owner for over a decade (of a company centered around billable hours - with employees) I can testify that it shouldn't otherwise be an issue. With a solid, well thought out plan that aligns with the INTJ's core personal values (and passions) I believe that the INTJ can be extraordinarily efficient and productive. But getting that alignment right can take a long time - at least it did for me.

INTJ here. Can you recommend other authors or books on self-development for INTJs? I’ve read your list on your site but was wondering if there were any others, like this one. I work for a large company in analytics/strategy, and I’ve always felt like I never planned for my career, but rather “transitioned” into positions based on whatever I had been doing previously. So your advice on continuing to move makes me feel like I actually haven’t wasted all these years because I’ve gained skills I’ll use, hopefully, later on. I just bought “So Good They Can’t Ignore You” btw. Thank you both. You’ve changed my life since I first listened to your podcast in 2015.

Thank you for this! This is the first time I have seen someone address the slow moving area of the Intj and I totally agree we need to be in a more slow moving profession. The other thing I have noticed is that I'm always coming up with ideas that get "stolen" by others when I'm too slow moving. Then I end up not reaping any benefit or getting any credit or appreciation for sharing the idea. Thoughts on how to deal with this? If ones strength is executable ideas, how does one essentially monetize that strength?

Learn from the people who do promote themselves and put themselves into fortunate positions. Or team up with people who have those skills. Also one can learn to communicate it to the right people in a way, that fits your personality. Sales type of people have some skills in it, but it also has to be translated into the techniques that would fit your personality. You know, some talkers get further than the quiet doers :)) but it doesn't have to be that way.

I think the advice given here is good and I would agree with picking something where you can be thoughtful and not to stressed out about short deadlines. I would also try and avoid if possible work which you percieve to be tedious or monotonous as we generally speaking like to use our intuition in a creative way and our analytical thinking as a way to plan A.B.C, structure, organize, prioritize and so on. What I am curious to know about for anyone who care to read this is where and how did you start out? Right now the only jobs that are available to me are the low level entry ones which in all honesty I could not be less interested in and I am looking for a way in which I can build career capital without having to go to a university, and sooner rather than later transition into a position which better fits me personally and create the kind of lifestyle that I want? Basically I have been doing what Antonia's INTJ friend did which was to plan everything out first but it can only do so much. I already have defined my purpose, the experiences I would like to have, the people I'd like to surround myself with; in a sense the general direction of where I want to take my life even if it is subject to change as you gradually change but im a bit stuck. Any advice?
