Not only did you present the differences between the INTJs and INFJs clearly, you also brought up some of the more misunderstood parts about INTJs at 2:10. This is a meme / misconception that comes up all the time. But as you said, it has more to do with a more abstract / loose concept that the INTJ is working towards long-term while being more flexible with their immediate reality, in an attempt to see how they can make the current fit into their long-term goals. The misconception usually portrays it so that the INTJs have planned every day of their life in great details with backup plan after backup plan several devades into the future. While a meme, it's a poor misconception. Thank you for bringing this up!

From my experience with INFJs as an INTJ I have found that it is easy to relate to them on some basic levels but the more we go into specifics like for example reasons to our similar behaviors it turns out to be completely different

To go further, it would be super interesting to compare INFJ & INTJ, concerning : _the difference between Ni-Ti & Ni-Fi loop _the difference between Te & Fe polar function _the difference in language _high expectations concerning relationships (psychology: we likes people who are like us, value Intelligence) Hard to trust people, because Ni, we see what’s wrong, when people lie, and have suspicious behavior.

I enjoyed this breakdown. My husband is an INFJ and I am an INTJ. It's funny because I am working on my Masters for Clinical Counseling while he is completing his degree in Networking and Security. Which is quite opposite of what you'd expect. Although I am not gifted at social norms, I am working on that part of myself in order to be an effective counselor. We both met when he was Information Technology specialist and I was a server administrator. I loved working in engineering but after much diliberation I decided I had a calling for counseling and completely redirected my career goals.

You have a really good analysis of the differences between the INTJ and INFJ. I'm an INFJ and my father is an INTJ and of the members of my family I have always been able to relate much more to my father. I personally feel that the INTJ is perhaps a more "useful" member in society for the very fact that you point out how INTJ's are much more driven to make use of the knowledge they accrue. As an INFJ I've always felt maybe a tad lazy in regards to the fact that I am always trying to learn about new things to build a greater understanding of the world (my Ti at work) and how everything works together but I'm not really compelled to put that knowledge back out into the world. (This frustrates my ISTJ husband to no end . . .) But my father who has learned things from Religion and Philosophy to Computer Programming and even Music and music writing has managed to successfully contribute back to the world in various ways in all of those fields. Whereas I feel like I could be content to remain the eternal student. Of course, I'm not saying that is true of all INFJ's, but while I really am driven to learn more and more, I'm just not driven to make "practical" use of that knowledge. At least as far as making use of the knowledge in regards to other people goes. Inside my own head, yeah sure, I make use of all the things I have learned, but in the grand scheme of things I have nothing tangible to show for it. And perhaps worse yet, I don't feel bad about that. I know you did an INTJ/ISTJ analysis video a few years ago, I was just wondering if you have any more (new) thoughts on the subject. As I said, my husband is ISTJ, he has almost no interest in personality or psychology at all ( I find odd as he is a counselor) and trying to get him to explain anything about how he perceives the world is like pulling teeth. I knew nothing about the Jungian personality types when we first met and had been married for over a decade before I found out about our types, but it suddenly made sense why we had such huge communication gaps and differences even in how we retold how we got together and other mutual stories. So, if you had any reason to revisit the ISTJ, I would love to see a video on that. Thank you for your continued insights into personality!

Don't think of all INTJs as high accomplishing people. I as an INTJ am quite the low achiever truth be told. I have no grand goals such as inventing something new or climbing to the top in society. I chose the path of least resistance, which in my country is becoming a teacher. In this sense becoming a teacher is what I am effectively working towards. I know the teacher experience is different from country to country, but in mine it's a highly respectable profession, with a good paycheck and with a lot of free time if done correctly. Three in one. To reach this goal I'm doing whatever I can. I.e taking X and Y course and in order to finish these courses I read the necessary parts of the literature. Which means I don't read everything in my course's literature and especially not books not related to the course I am taking. In my effective-laziness strategy I only scan out the necessary parts so that I will have as much time as possible to game and watch youtube. This usually works out good for me. But all in all I don't consider myself as well-read as my INTP friend. On a broader scale he's more well-versed than I am. While I manipulate and execute knowledge in the outside world, he's more of a collector and hoarder of knowledge. When I no longer have a use for the knowledge I just forget it because I didn't remember it "seriously" to begin with. I only memorized it and kept it memorized for the duration I had a use for it. So yeah, while I am moving forwards in my life and giving others the impression that I am excelling in academia, deep down I know I'm not much better than the others with a much lower grade than me. I am simply better at executing the necessary knowledge but that's all. There's a major difference between the outward facade / what's on the inside. This, however, might just be me. But considering that INTJs make out like 2-3% of the population while there's only a handful of people like Isac Newton and Nikola Tesla, I don't think it's justified to assume INTJs to necessarily be high-achievers. There's a lot of people who don't have what it takes to reach the top even if they want to, and then there are those who are content on settling in the middle because they are happy with a normal life where they can pursue their own Fi-hobbies. To such an INTJ, Te-achievements would only be the means to an end (FI) and not the end itself. They only work as hard as they have to in order to make sure they get the money they need to pursue their other hobbies.

As someone on the Ti/Fe axis, I can relate. I know I may very well appear as lazy or ineffective to the world, wasting a lot of time learning what "doesn't need to be learned." Ironically enough, I tend to perceive Te-users as "lazy," insofar as they can't be bothered learning that which is not immediately and evidently instrumental -- a sort of intellectual impatience, if you will. Not to mention all manner of logical errors made by using heuristics as thinking shortcuts. I'd rather be slow and right than fast and wrong. Pardon my bias. What I originally intended to say though, is that you might find some additional insight into the differences between you and your father in the Enneagram. I would not be surprised to learn you're a type 9w1, while your INTJ father may be a 5w6, 6w5, or 1. That could explain a lot. But don't forget, age, upbringing, cultural norms and expectations based on social role also shape how we turn out. :)
@astavas8341
@astavas8341 4 года назад
@@buzan2296 It's not about how big that goal is tbh. It's just that INTJ are more compromising with what they want. Most of my hobbies as INFJ are basically self loathing, reading and browsing. I have a big goal, but not that interested to accomplish it, like whatever's is fine.

I like to learn so I can expand my ability to function on a higher level. My Introverted side likes to work alone. I simply get more done. Being border line F vs. T makes me not so rare, the older I get the more prominent the T part of my personality shows itself. I like knowing this information, I wish I knew it as a young person. It would have helped me in my career choice. I fell into the accounting field quite by accident. Long before computers were a thing, and coming up in the accounting field with pencil and paper spreadsheets gave me the brass tacks of how it all works. So, with the invention of Excel you can only imagine how much easier spreadsheets became. This is the T part. The F part would have taken me into studies of psychology, early childhood development, etc. Glad I fell into accounting, it was perfect for me.

First video I've seen from you and I enjoyed it. I am an INTJ and my fiancée is an INFJ and I think you did a really good job of explaining the differences and similarities in a way that is was neither too narrow nor to broad. You provided a useful overview of the differences as well as hitting on some of the similarities. I enjoyed the video and think that it is relevant. I'll check out some of your other videos. We have the most trouble when it comes to our extraverted versus introverted feeling functions. We rarely argue at all, but when we do it is usually because we have a misunderstanding and not because we don't agree. We have learned to take a step back when we feel an argument coming on and see if we really understand what the other person is trying to say. When we do this we tend to nip it in the bud. Although sometimes we have difficult moments because I am too frank with my assessments and it hurts her feelings - that is not a misunderstanding so much as failing to communicate in an optimal manner. We are still learning every day how we can more effectively communicate with each other. We learn as we go, and I love her more than anything in the entire universe! Unconditional love and a willingness to work to understand each other makes every argument bring us closer together and make future arguments both less likely and less intense. To all you INTJ & INFJ partners out there: It can work out beautifully if you really want it and are willing to put in the time and effort required to understand where each person is coming from!

I think I ride the line of INTJ/INFJ. I’m definitely an INTJ, but thinking/feeling is pretty 50/50. If you are looking at it from a cognitive function standpoint, it’s also pretty balanced. I’m naturally inclined to use Te/Fi, but my Fe/Ti is pretty good when I am intentionally putting forth effort. I don’t really value these functions as much, but I am able to use them effectively. I’ve been obsessed with creating artificial Fe since I was an adolescent bc of much childhood trauma due to my lack of it. You explain things well; thank you.

That's a good way of putting introverted feeling. It's not that INTJs don't have feelings, it's just that their feelings are usually kept private. They have intense feelings about certain things, but they are what motivate their behavior and values. Instead of saying 'I love clean places!' out loud or being the spokesman for a recycling group, they quietly show how much they love clean places by quietly picking up trash, and avoiding making a mess themselves. Sometimes, I wonder if I'm a bit more of an INFJ than an INTJ and your example of learning things for the sake of learning itself is a good one. I often read about things and take the time to learn about them, even when it is something that isn't obviously useful to what my job is or what my big goal in life is. Unless, that is, my big over-all goal might actually be to learn as much as I possibly can. There are times when I'm not sure what my over-all goal is (which is also sometimes when I'm very stressed or feeling depressed which happens a lot), so it's tough to tell if I'm naturally not highly goal oriented like an INFJ is, or if I'm a frustrated INTJ because what I thought was my big goal in life isn't working out. Also, the part about binges that you mention in your videos is spot on. It's not something that I've seen in other INTJ videos, so I appreciate you being open about it. Its not something that is easy to talk about or admit to since some of the things that one can binge on have such negative connotations in society. Like you clarify so well, it's not that we're addicted to the thing, we're just binging on it to escape from something that is stressing us out. As soon as we find a way to resolve the stressful situation and the pressure of it is lifted, our obsession with whatever it was we were binging on evaporates. This aspect of my personality has taken my wife a long time to come to grips with. At first, she was worried that I was addicted to gaming, but once she realized that it was an escape from pressures at work, she stopped trying to help me get over a perceived addiction to it. As soon as the work situation that was upsetting me was resolved, I quit spending all of my free time playing video games. I still play them, but not obsessively. I have many and quite varied interests and hobbies, any one of which I may find myself binging on whenever I'm stressed or upset about something. Now, I think that she's glad that I deal with stress and frustration in these ways rather than by being violent or abusive, because she's actually taken an interest in my hobbies and sees them as ways to spend time with me rather than just leaving me to it and worrying about me getting obsessed with it again. Update: A few days ago, I saw a video and read articles about personality type variants or subtypes like Dominant, Creative, Normalizing and Harmonizing that can be variants on any personality type. This really helped me clarify what type I am. I now think that it is possible that I am truly an INTJ, but that I have the Harmonizing variant which is less outwardly cold, calculating and unemotional than the INTJ basic type. I care a bit more about getting along with people and creating or maintaining harmony in relationships by avoiding confrontation than I otherwise might. I might be convinced that I am correct and the other person is incorrect, but if I sense that insisting that they are incorrect will damage the relationship, or at least lead to an emotional fight that will be unpleasant to cope with, I will keep my assertions to myself. "In friendships, it is sometimes better to be content than right." as my grandma used to say.

She was interested in neuroscience when she was younger, and was very appreciative of the Neuroscience of Personality book that I gave her for Valentine’s Day 2 years ago. Very, very interesting.👍🏻 Seems the INTJ learns for a specific purpose, As an INFJ, I am driven to learn for Curiosity sake most of the time, as you mentioned. Seems the INTJ is a bit more “practically purposeful” in life than the INFJ in that arena. But it explains why I was interested in books that explained how mechanical things worked as a kid, still am. My hobby is designing or modifying airports in MS Flight Simulator. The creator in me needs to explore. I have more fun with that sometimes than actually flying. Flying a plane in real life sometimes overwhelms the Se, too much eye candy out the window, distracting to the needs of maintaining altitude and direction sometimes....sometimes but usually not always. 😀🛫

wow dude! i had to stop and rewind a bit there a few times! i was usaf that had ts-sci security clearance investigation. they told me i'm "intj". i had no idea what that meant, but learned a lot later on. i've had bidness and personal relationships with infj types, and it is SUPPOSED to go well, but usually never does. i think they're flaky, but maybe that's just me or a small sample. edit: upon reflection, i do have one REALLY good friend who is an infj. i think he's a little nuts, but we do have a lot of overlap personality wise. you gave me chills when you first mentioned ghandi. i've never heard a clearer distinction. thank you for that.

Great points. Especially INXJS having personal goals vs ENXJS having coorporate and social goals. Jay-z is an ESTP by the way. A few INTJs in rl are Post malone and Doja cat in music and Kawahi leonard and Kyler Murry in sports. INFJs in rl are the weeknd, dua lipa, lloyd, marina, in music and Allen iverson and deontay wilder in sports. ESTPs would be jay-z, bruno mars, drake, rihanna, pink in music and many in sports like deon sanders, magic johnson, the rock etc lets face it, NJs are fewer in number than SPs so the list grows. Oh in cinema: INTJ Catch me if you can INFJ Goodwill hunting

I think there is a type of continuum between thinking and feeling. We can slide along the continuum based on the adaptations we make in the quest to achieve our goals. One may not be able to change to another personality type but can adapt behaviors or thought patterns that lead to survival and success.

intj, im more on the artistic side. while i'd like to contribute to the world to better the world for everyone, i mostly want to achieve a good future for myself and do things in order to become independent and stable(and then isolate myself and try to change the world from a secluded safe place), opposite to infj who wants the social harmony. and yes, i won't comply to social norms unless i see a point to it. i can adapt, but refuse to be like the rest and conform. i will judge and questions the norms and rules. as for books, i will also pick of book if it relates to my interests not just my goals. you're so on about the binge behavior. i tend to drink when my mood is down or im too stressed. sometimes i forget to eat if i'm focused or get lost in my thoughts.

The thing is, I’m an INFJ but I’m really not into people. Or well, I like people well enough, I have my “retail persona” I can switch on, but so many guides and websites tell me that INFJ’s are just DYING to be counselors and pastors and volunteer at soup kitchens. Now, those activities are fine, and I do get a certain gratification in helping people, but I’m mostly interested in writing (my inspiration and ideas go to new ideas and worlds, generally not how to improve lives), in science, in individual sports, in learning. Is it unusual for an INFJ to prefer art and academic study over say, becoming a church counselor or a self help guru?

My goodness, you are exceptional at what you do! I am an INTJ. I have owned and operated a Lawn & Grounds maintenance business going on 37 years now. While I am most grateful for how this business has supported my life, I sometimes feel like my true calling is slipping through my fingers. I wrote a book in 2016 and love to read and write. The problem is that my publisher really stiffed me and I am feeling discouraged about continuing to pursue writing. While I love to write I get really bogged in the technology now required to bring a book to print and promote. What do you think? Can an INTJ do well as a writer? Your feedback would be so appreciated.

The stereotypes out there in the MBTI community can really frustrate me. I still can’t figure out exactly why I do love being in boisterous, overstimulating environments, AND being on a stage. As long as I stay detached from everybody. Performing = not being “me” Nightclub -> fulfills my observational cravings AND sensory indulgence Does this sound like it can hold true for an INTJ? I am glad you mentioned the part where we binge, but do not tend to experience addiction. That really rang true for me. I can certainly binge, but also be super strict with myself in the “in between” times.

I think that you are in a state of flow when you do these. Perhaps consider the pace at which you are going. Maybe record yourself in flow, then make notes with which you can create a slower version of the presentation without any Bones coffee influence. To me this would result in a video that was incredibly accurate and more digestible, as well. I think your videos are packed with accurate information & that you may well be one of the few topical experts in MBTI.... even though you appear to be a teenager. Love your expertise. Thanks.

INTJ. Some of what you said resonates, but I disagree on INTJs not seeking to understand things as deeply as Ti users. Not sure where the idea that Te is shallow and only cares about application came from. Maybe Ni impacts that since our dominant function for taking in information is Ni. I’m actually kind of obsessive about understanding things as deeply and comprehensively as I can. This includes impractical topics like sci-fi and fantasy series I watched. When I was waiting between Harry Potter books and films, I would read the Harry Potter wiki. I did the same with Star Wars, and still look up lore information on video games I play. I enjoy knowledge for the sake of it, even if it isn’t always practical. Although I do care about real world outcomes. At the end of the day, I do want to change the world. I am interested in effective altruism, and I am also an activist. I use Te to analyze topics objectively. E.g. for my activism, I recently read a book called “This is an Uprising” that discusses strategies of nonviolent direct action. Science is a tool, but I am not very rigid in my thinking.

INFJ scientist. Maybe the INxJ difference is more in the area and/or utilisation of their scientific study? For a start, the egalitarian wouldn't want to make ugly amounts of cash, whereas the INTJ would. 😂 I'm the youngest of four BGBG. ENTP: Computer language developer, rich on bitcoin, likes to bushwalk all over the world. INTJ: BSc(masters in biotech), but always wanted to be & became a librarian, indexer, homebody. INTJ: Communications (journalism) degree but has owned & run a bridge club (♣ not 🌉) ever since. INFJ: BSc(micro/biochem), medical research, PhD on turtles, science editor, not working (30 years exhaustion, 🧠 fog, depression, insomnia). Takes care of dying parents.

Cinderella 290 - INFJ here. Had a 10 yr. serious relationship with an INTJ. He broke my heart in a million pieces and did not seem to care at all, after all that time. Trying to find out how he felt was nigh unto impossible, and even asking what was going on (to him) meant I was not on the moral high ground like he was, or I would not need to ask. I am still not sure if we were just from different planets, or if I was played like a fiddle. The lack of closure has never stopped hurting. I do not recommend!

As an INTJ, yes. I do have future goals, but the idea that there is some timeframe on them is silly. That aspect is vague. Instead, I have an idea of what steps need to happen in order to get there, and it takes whatever time it takes for me to take those steps. But, I will work on achieving those steps and that goal if it's important enough to me. I've had some of these take years, but I haven't stopped on my journey.

I've never quite understood the distinction between judging and perceiving in terms of the reception of new information. I understand that people describe it along the lines of, "The judging type immediately judges new information and the perceiving type takes in new information and mulls it over" - but how long does the 'mulling' process take, and does the judging type express their judgment outwardly immediately or can it be a wholly internal process? When someone tells me something, if it doesn't make sense to me I will almost immediately think "Wait, that doesn't make sense" and then think through why it doesn't make sense - but I don't express this outwardly most of the time. I am quite secure in my typing as an INFJ so not understanding this distinction is quite disconcerting for me.

Most of the teachings are an attempt to condense and simplify jungs descriptions of the eight psychological types as well as their evolutions into the briggs model. So mostly the descriptions of what functions are and how each work according to Jung is how I guide my presentations. Also Briggs though. Say in Gifts Differing Briggs divides types in the description sections by dominant function, not by temperament or any other way, thus alluding to the idea that types of the same dominant function share most qualities in common, something that many newer people to typology tend to miss. Most of my knowledge is extrapolated from Pdychological Types, Gifts Differing, Archetypes of the Collective Unconscious, and Psychology and Alchemy. Experience working with people and observation has certainly contributed to my understanding. Though understanding of the theory aligns well with observations, its important to note for me that people of a "type" are often at dramatically different developmental stages in their life, which causes great divides in displayed behaviors and even a person's understand of themselves. I don't expect a 22 y/o ESFP to be the same as a 50 y/o. I could diversify these stages as different types if I wanted, but to me the informatiom processing remains in the same order, it just boils down to where they are in life and how they can handle their struggle areas. In that way, its easier for me to stick with Jung's and Brigg's work and use it as a launching point for helping people understand themselves and their struggles. Individuality can arise from type because type is not a strict definition of value or behavior, only a definition of the lenses in which life is viewed. My approach is highly theoretical though, I see value in the theory proposed by Jung but I don't feel anywhere near mastering it, hence why I currently only attempt to explain instead of modify (if my defiintions vary greatly I do my best to clarify that they stem from me). Maybe one day I would like to contribute something new to the study though.

I'm INFJ and don't know why I love going to bars and clubs although as I grow up I try to do that in a more healthy way. I don't think it's an unhealthy thing, I feel like I can enjoy it very much. And I've come to realize that INJs can actually enjoy Se things in a very subtle way that ESPs usually can't get that. For example, I know very few SPs who can enjoy wine and gastronomy but instead I find so many NJs in these events and they are very well acknowledged about these topics. SPs would prefer something stronger and more stimulating.

And I might even behave as an INFJ, although not as a natural preference; more because perhaps I find a certain behaviour more accepted by people instead of what I would like to naturaly do, if this makes any sense.
