This is one of the most accurate descriptions I've found of myself as an INTJ. I find that so many people understand INTJs to be emotionless, efficient machines, but that completely misses the deeply-held values that INTJs have. These values drive what we do and help us have the motivation (or repeatedly find the energy) to pursue our goals over long periods of time and through multiple failures." Thank you for sharing such a human and realistic take on INTJs :)

My BFF is INTJ, and this is accurate. She has a drive that is frankly impressive, but her major weakness is Se. She avoids it so much so that she occasionally gets smacked in the face with reality so hard that it derails her temporarily. I'm ISTP, so I consider it my job to remind her that Se exists, and that she'd better pay attention to it. But between her intuition and drive, and my physical skill and confidence, we are a pretty hardcore team.

I am INTJ, and everything really is about planning. There are lots of things I am interested and that's why I am reading a lot. My day is planned and I cycle my interests into 3 hour periods throughout the day to make it easier for me to study and practice each one. My social skills are poor, and during a pandemic, I can easily be up to a month without seeing other people. Goals are always visions that I want to make, they come true when enough knowledge has been acquired and enough skill has been acquired through doing and failure. And why do I do and keep learning? It is a question I been asked for myself too and answer is always: Because I have to, I cant get peace of mind if I haven´t done what my dream, goal or visions are showing. Thats why its difficult to stop until work has done.

Yeah, I relate to it a lot, the sort of 'Pioneer'/'Path forger' mindest as an INTJ. It seems to be something along the lines of: 'If I cannot find what I am looking for in the world, then I will make it happen myself.' Or, finding a solution to a problem that I have a passionate desire to solve, or have noticed that the current solution is ineffective and can be improved upon. For me, an ineffective solution is almost just as bad as the problem.

@@aidanhunter6195 Aidan, keen observation and I believe you must be an Si dom to take my post at 100% face value when in actuality it was an abstract and condensed version that Ni doms like myself struggle to fully encapsulate into words, but I can further opine on my post and contrast with an ISTJ while giving a fuller, still unclear INTJ-type expounding of the original post: 1) INTJ Ni Dom - cost benefit analysis includes both qualitative and quantitative measures, I would agree ISTJ would be more interested in crunching the numbers to get to the absolute numerical return value to concretely get the "correct" answer, however INTJ would probably be more inclined to get sidetracked as their perspective may change on how they want to engage with the games, and could start with the idea that they want the biggest prize and as they start to figure that out in the process think about having to lug the prize around, is the game fun? is the game challenging? bottom line, what is the goal or perspective that provides the biggest reward (materially/emotionally, etc) for example win the biggest prize or be able to brag about "x" accomplishment, or combination of both (Fi tertiary plays into the personalization of the goal) 2) INTJ Se Inferior vs ISTJ Ne Inferior - INTJ would be less inclined to engage in the games initially (Se inferior) because they would need to assess from a distance a myriad of factors for each game to formulate a goal (Ni dom) as discussed in the prior point and plan (Te aux) without risking any manipulation of the environment which could yield dirty data otherwise, plus prematurely engaging in a game could trigger Fi tertiary too much which could lead to over exertion of emotion and wasted time and money playing the first game on tilt or hyperfocus on just that game and losing out on the bigger more meaningful goal that could be formulated. I believe because ISTJ's have Ne inferior and Si dom, they would probably stick to a Si dom-like concrete/tangible goal of crunching numbers to get a prize which would make exploring the environment with Ne inferior easier knowing they only need to consider limited factors to get to the bottom line and more easily filter out games with small prizes whereas the INTJ like myself is thinking of why every prize and every aspect of every game exists, it's all there for a reason and there's bound to be opportunities where the house loses somewhere at some game, and then when I figure it out, I probably don't play anything in the end because I just "won" without spending a dollar and still have something to brag about that nobody cares about or appreciates except myself, then my unused Se is restless and ready to be engaged by going to the big roller coaster with everybody after they are done with games, but I guess that depends on line size, is the ride included with park admission, is.......

Many of INTJ’s qualities you mention in the video are highlighted in strategic board games: learning rules, understanding the system’s interactions and planning ahead to reach the goal all appeal strongly to INTJs. As one, I found myself winning very often in my first play of a new board game, ahead of other newcomers or even more experienced players. My guess is that is because of the particular INTJ insight and drive to succeed.

Agree. I often say "shoving things forward is what I do". I work now at a large organization with archaic systems. I'm dogged about making improvements! Lots of people don't want to... and get in the way. The amount of presentations I have to do to kill 1 piece of paper (a form) which slows a process is hilarious! Higher and higher levels of approvals needed! So I just laugh it off and shove it forward...1 cm at a time lol. I'd say 1 inch...but that's too much of a progress. Don't care. Stupid piece of paper is creating extra work and is pointless! Slows things down! Prevents work from happening! I must kill it ....Fi motivation to improve process and satisfaction for others. So my next ridiculous presentation why this piece of paper must die is on Tuesday.... and I will be there ready, 9am sharp!

Quite accurate. There are no problems that don’t have solutions, it’s a matter of finding them. Everything is possible. I may plan in my head for a while until I see the full vision of the project, but the second I start anything outside of my head, things get done extremely fast, with efficiency and high quality. And also accurate that what I do has to fit into my values. I have to care and be passionate about the subject matter, otherwise I’ll go a different direction. I’ve never had a job for the sake of having a job. After assessing the scene, I’d politely insult everyone for their lack of competence and quit.

This video is brilliant, just like all your other videos. I already knew these things about myself. I know that all I need is motivation and reason, a passion, and as long as I set my sights on something, I will achieve it. It is the truth, a fact which I know about myself. However, I have lost this motivation. Recently I have been reconsidering my life philosophy, re-thinking about everything. And I have changed my philosophy completely. I had to erase a lot of what I used to value and believe in. As a result, I'm trying to form my new philosophy, one that makes more sense. In the process, past motivations no longer seem that important. And I don't really know what is important anymore. To say the least, it is this stage in my life, the stage of rebuilding morals, beliefs and values, that is truly paralyzing. I just need a lot of time to think. But this never happens because of life requirements so I'm still... drifting, if that makes sense. It feels like as though I'm lost. I'm hoping to take the next holidays to sort this out and get back to who I used to be, but with better core values.

Yes, it has turned out that I am a path forger. And, yes, the path has to be one that motivates me strongly emotionally and aligns with my values. But .... I'm good at lots of things and I could use my talents and skills in a variety of different areas, so for a long time I just sort of meandered along, dabbling in this or that. Sometimes I'd get excited about some idea and I'd start pursuing it, but then I would discover that the idea wasn't important enough for me to do the necessary sensory stuff (which feels like walking through mud). I've come to realise that every dream involves walking through mud but, if the dream is really, really important, I'm willing to keep going and pursue it until the dream is made an earthly reality. And I have to accept that, because my aspirations are huge and futuristic, then it's highly likely they're going to take years or decades to manifest. If the dream is important, I can and will do the sensory stuff (like calling people on the phone - urgh) but I just do it slower than most. It might take me a week before I'm ready to make the call that needs to be made. If I could give some good advice to other INTJs, it would be don't pressure yourself to be good at the senate stuff or to do it quickly. There's no hurry. Give yourself many breaks from the sensate world and do whatever you need to do to recharge.

As an INTJ, this is how I believe my brains works 1. My Ni is always running in the background. It's like the very air I breathe in. I might be looking straight at you and still wouldn't see you because I'd be so caught up in my head. 2. I deploy Te mainly whenever I try to make sense of the crazy whacky concepts and ideas my Ni synthesises in the background or whenever I've to interact with the external world. That's how I can plan effectively and interact with the external information in a logical way. 3. When I was young I'd preferably use my third function i.e. Fi. I still feel more comfortable with this function more than Te because of it being an introverted function as well. That's why everything I do, it's usually done with a fiery passion. I also always refer each decision my Ni and Te make collectively with my Fi and that's what allows my external interactions the much needed moral compass. I don't like to make my Fi surface but behind the doors it's very important for to keep it happy. 4. I don't believe on the physical reality that we inhabit because I can never get to observe it tangibly due to my inferior Se. I'd drive to and from work everyday without noticing anything on and around the road. Often when i need escape from the constant intuitive processes, I'd smoke weed, drink and over eat. I can also go to the other extreme and wouldn't eat anything proper for days. My Se always comes in extreme fluctuations.

As an INTJ, I relate a lot, because now it makes more sense. People at school tend to tell me to give up on things, like what I want to do in life, that I will struggle, that I would fail if I choose this path, but I never listened any of them, because I’m aware of what I’m doing, if it’s gonna cause me pain, who cares? Why so concerned about me? It’s my life anyway, and plus even if I’m gonna fail, who said I was gonna give up? Even If I fail multiple times, I won’t give up until I succeed in what I want to achieve. I remember when this one teacher told me to choose another path, just because I had difficulties, even tho I was trying but I never had this state of mind to give up. I was trying. I eventually switched schools, and I got better, and I didn’t fail, and now I’m moving foward. Nothing will stop me. Until my last breath.

Yep - very spot on. As an INTJ myself, all of my plans or goals are Fi motivated (aka based on personal values and morals I hold to a high standard). It's because of Fi that I move forward or don't give up. (Although sometimes Fi can be a fiery chain in some ways. A chain that allows me to pinpoint a goal and use to blaze forward as it's used to latch onto that goal, pulling me forward while Ni-Te guides me on the most optimal path(s). However, it can burn me as well if it keeps me from walking away to find a better path for myself rather than others (thinking of duty and integrity here).) As always, a great video that does justice to INTJs. Truly appreciate the work you put out (even if I mostly lurk in the shadows observing).

Then, i define my life goal from my values (always the same). after that, i'm making/reviewing my plans and (re)organize this in details, as far as possible, for the next 10 years. and then, if it is not working, i try something else, but always keep my objectives in mind. all this should work in a perfect world, but everyone of us does what we want and noy what we should.

Every one forgets that a lot of creativity is required to forge a path to something that demands a lot of effort with very little time available .... It is a general conception that the ability of coming up with multiple possibilities (ne) is the hallmark of creativity but that isn't the case entirely....both Ni and Ne are equally creative but in different ways.... Usually INTJs don't come off as creative in the public because they are focused on getting a job done ...but when they are alone their creativity blooms ....you can see it in a lot of INTJ kids who have a habit of collecting various parts of broken machines and electronics and trying to make different contraptions of their own (it's always hard to name them) .... For them every thing they see is like a peice of a jigsaw puzzle with different projections and depression that would fit another special piece ,after combined would become a complex mechanism and two such complex mechanisms would combine to form another...which would then lead to the big picture they had in mind (like a robot from transformers movie which had a claw similar to an object they have with them, so they will try to use the object to make something similar to the robot ) ...it is hard to explain how Ni's creativity works (with a little bit of fi element in it ) unless you see it ...but most of the time people judge the creativity levels of INTJs in situations where they were not trying to be creative in the first place.... I met a lot of other INTJs in reddit pages or under yt comment section who talked about how they spent a lot of time doing things like this in their childhood... This was just to explain how the creative mechanism...when I grew up I started to use these principles in getting things that required 30 days of work in just 5 days ...

Um.. yes, path forger due to the focus on the problem and various ways to solve it. Overlooked blind spot: ALL plans need to be vetted, outcomes maximized, contingencies planned, and to some this looks like we're being "negative" and "a wet blanket on the ideas", when all that we're doing is the second step in the new idea, skipping the much-needed (for some) stage of a wild enthusiastic party and ticker-tape parade for the NEW idea, regardless of how tested and achievable it is, or the feasibility of recovery if anything goes wrong.
@Sahdirah
@Sahdirah 3 года назад
I wonder if that’s a Te thing... I’m an INFP, and I’ve been accused (though admittedly by a shitty person) of wet-blanketing ideas, when to me, that was just my brain logically leaping ahead to flaws because there’s no way to DO the plan unless you can figure out those contingencies.

It's incredible how you are just breaking down a personality type but 1:40 explains my current stagnant life because I lost my goal that drove me to do things. I have been in a limbo for about a year since I lost my goal and since the goal has to be emotional and it has to agree with my principles, whatever new goal I come up with doesn't really works out coz it doesn't fits one of the two conditions. It's incredible how INTJs goal chasing personality is both their greatest strength, when they have decided on something, and their worst nemesis when they don't have anything to live by. I would absolutely love a full series just on INTJs because I want to learn as much as possible about myself and your videos have been extremely helpful in both learning and validating my own feelings. Honestly, if you ever release merch based on what to do things as a certain personality type when you are in a loop or grip, I would preorder the heck out of it for an INTJ. I don't find merch like cups or shirt worth the investment just to flaunt my personality type, as I usually tend to keep that fact to myself.

For example in my gaming hobby, I like to plan out my achievement hunting goals in an efficient, fun manner. God, family, and country (in that order). And I feel the most accomplished when I have done right by these. However, I often find myself in the position you so well described where I lack a specific goal and want to find one I can throw myself into. But at the same time, I'm kind of terrified to really, wholeheartedly commit to anything bc deep down I know I will become borderline obsessive and possibly neglect other things more worthwhile, or even the same values I hold most dear.

This is a really accurate description for me as an INTJ. I struggle so much with Se, that I sometimes plan for an entire year (structuring and organizing the outcome and various pieces) before I attempt the meaningful project - which I tend to obsessively tweak until success happens. This draws me into outlandish ideas and fields that probably don't solve many problems for a large portion of the population, but I attempt it regardless due to what I value. Others consider me to be a "path forger", but it's related to the idea that if I want something in this world that isn't here yet, then I have to make it myself. It took me over six years to find my "path" (going in and out of existential thoughts to forge the meaning behind it) ...but when I found it, I never gave up finding solutions, even failure after failure. If any INTJ is reading this, please take care of your body and Se (sometimes over your obsessions). lol I promise it will help you physically in the long run. Thank you for your video! - I want to watch more of your videos in the future. They are great.

Absolutely true. Other people make things more complicated. However, I found that starting to consider the other people (and their personalities) as important parts of my group assignment (or work task!) that needed to be solved, then I started to feel more whole. What I mean is, if you're only considering the assignment on paper as the problem that must be solved, you're missing out on the humans who interact with you as another part of the equation to solve. They don't always make it easier, but without taking them into consideration, you're only solving half of the problem...and that isn't very efficient or thought through.

My perception of INTJs has been, up until this point, that they always are motived, always have goals. My mystical INTJ grandpa wired several municipal areas for electricity when it was a new commodity. He invented ways to put electrical lines underground and track shorts from his home (which I back-engineered upon hearing of it after his death). My ENxJ lawyer cousin, also related to grandpa above, cornered the ambulance chasing business in his town and beyond. Another related ENTJ cousin is engaged in a highly lucrative but morally questionable practice overseas, or at least all indicators point in that direction. SO I find it surprising that many INTJs lack motivation. Interesting.

Everything substantial I do is born of a personal value, and because it is something I've deemed important, it gets my all. A fun example of this is when my friends came to me with the idea of starting a band. We were all terrible musicians, never played anything other than clarinets or the snare drum in school and did the basic music classes. Nevertheless, we picked our instruments, buying the cheapest we could find and began to learn. I'd say we all progressed similarly at first, but then it became important to me. I began to appreciate the fun we had and the ideal of becoming a great band hit me. From that point on I excelled, far surpassing my other fellow guitarist in the band (who had a shaky practice regime) and it wasn't even close. I had a mission, and practiced every day relentlessly. The rest of the guys eventually caught up to me talent-wise but it took them a few years longer. There was a long period there when most of my social group considered me to be one of the best guitarists (we had met and befriended several other local bands). This example is one of many in my life so far. So to say I resonate with the description of 'relentless,' or 'driven' is obvious. If my Fi rallies, my Te is rowdy 'bout it and there is no one that can tell me, or maybe even influence me off the track. If I don't understand something and it's becoming an obstacle to getting what I want, I pick at it until I beat it. Do note, this my older teen to adult self. As a kid I was far more apathetic about life. I think my Te had some maturing to do. I know my emotional intelligence had a LOT of maturing to do.

Seemed pretty spot on to me. I'm glad you called... was it the ENTPs? the Chess players instead of us. I commented on another video about how we INTJs are always visually represented by Chess for some reason, and that I think other types like INTPs are probably better at Chess than we are. I realised part of the problem is our tunnel vision: we love to plan ahead, but it's quantity over quality as you said, and Chess has a dozen things going on at once where we want to reduce a problem to as few elements as possible. In agreement with your doggedness and blood sweat and tears observation, today I was playing Chess against the computer, clumsily, blitzing one round after another, but testing one strategy after another in order to establish patterns and simplify the game, thereby establishing a reliable game plan.

When it comes to my deeply held values and beliefs, of which I will not sacrifice for anything, it is almost as though my life will be purposeless if I do not act on the vision born out of them, even if I'm alone in doing so. @@JessicaPawlitzki Yes, I know. I do like science, but I'm talking more about having a vision in mind for a long time. But I agree that INTJs aren't always science oriented

You're one of the few personality type content providers my INTJ hubby likes and can somewhat trust. You get it right while still emphasizing we're human (while joking we're not). 😂

Eerily accurate. That’s exactly has I am. Always dot connecting, planning, and strategising. I leave little room for much else. Lucky for me, my s.o is an INFP. Last evening, he called me out back to look at a blazing red sunset. Watching it made me think of the, much anticipated, U.S. UFO disclosure promised at the end of June. I told my s.o, half jokingly, that I hoped this disclosure event would also include introducing a benevolent race that would work with us to dismantle our corrupt global governments and install a fair, open, decentralised model of blockchain based governance. (As a blockchain/crypto consultant, that’s my m.o) He just put his arm around me and said, “Shhh, don’t think about the government right now, let’s just quietly enjoy this miracle”. I tend not to realise how much I live in my head. Never imagined I’d be a match for an FP, but I definitely benefit from his quiet romanticism -brings me back to Earth!😏

motivation is essential; it gives me the power to reach my goals. I avoid doing things I’m not interested in

When not passionate, I end up here on youtube wasting time watching vidoes insteading of studying. I'm not entirely sure if I'm an INTP/an INTJ. But, I make sure to follow both so as to figure out what my type really is. This video was helpful to an extent.

Same as you. I'm an INTP but very INTJ-like. This is a very good comparison that makes things clear: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9ELx-FYBUz4.html

If you haven’t already please check out our Discord server, I’m on there most days, we have channels specifically for each type on there as well as many others! It's a particularly good place to waste time procrastinating!! The link is in the description of this video ~ Nathan

pretty accurate. I would also so that, as an INTJ, I identify with a lot of the ENTJ stereotypes when I feel driven and motivated. I believe the difference to be that ENTJ's have leading as their goal, while INTJ's see it as a tool.

It's simple. We pay attention to things that lead us closer to our goals which most people will completely miss out on. Idk about other INTJs but I don't ask "why" the answer is usually obvious or not important.

How can Why be not important, I doubt you set goals based on randomness. If your goal is not based on reason then what's it based on?

@@judael5605 For example, you have a recipe of your favourite dish in front of you. You would likely follow the recipe. Let's say you didn't because you questioned the ingredients and assume was no reason to. Which situation would get you closer to learning how to cook that dish?

Goal comes from the past experiences where we struggled i refuse to believe an INTJ can exist without and past struggle.

This probably cements my belief that I'm an INTJ Yes people see us as robots and we are not supposed to have feelings, but we know better than anyone what we want to do and how it is emotionally connected to our identity. We draw strength from it. We are highly emotional beings, but very few things in the world spark our emotions.
