Into Alaska - a Bear Around Camp & Heavy Rain Begins | 10-Days Family Camping in Alaskan & BC Wild
Camped at a spot that’s used as a salmon netting camp by local Tahltan, we woke up to an overcast day that seemed to promise rain. While breaking camp, our dog North started acting strangely, he was on alert and the hair on his back stood up as he sniffed the air. He was guarding the entrance of two trails that lead into camp. It seemed like a bear was hanging around so I fired off a bear banger to scare it off, which seemed to work as North stopped acting all weird.
The heavy rain and cold headwinds picked up not long after that. Man was it ever challenging. The Stikine River has good currant so, you’re supposed to make good time but the headwind really slowed out pace. After paddling a good distances we made camp at a white sand beach in the rainforest and the rain really started coming down and Tori cooked up a mean of poutine under the tarp.
