Set in a crumbling world similar to earth, Salvage Union by Leyline Press has you playing as a group of salvagers who live upon a huge Mech known as a Union Crawler which houses your entire community. As you eke out survival by scouring the wastelands for salvage in your Mechs, you’ll tackle the denizens of the wastes, whether that's bands of wastelanders, terrifying bio-titans, alien constructs and the powerful Corpos. Will you find enough salvage to survive in the wastes or fall prey to its many dangers?

the thing about Corporations owning the patents to most growable food is actually a thing in Real Life. Farmers in India got sued by fucking Pepsico because they were growing potatoes for sustenance...and those potatoes also happened to be the same potatoes used in Lays Potato Chips.

The evil Corp sought $100,000 in damages from each farmer, an amount that they wouldn't earn in a lifetime, or "graciously offered" to "accept" them in their collaborative farming program. Basically choose between indebting yourself and your bloodline for a few generations, or work for us.

@@WolfBoy-om6dw and lets not get onto Monsanto being implicated in sending hit squads after south american smallholders for using monsanto patented seeds without license (did you know that the crop seeds monsanto sell are modified to produce sterile plants, meaning you can't plant them, collect the seeds from one harvest and re-plant next year.. oh no. you have to BUY your next years seeds (from monsanto) as well)

Having played this game, I really, REALLY, like the building system. Its easy to understand but it prompts a lot of difficult questions, like "Do I want to take a rigging arm, or a laser?", "Is it worth dropping floodlights for a rivet gun?", and "Do I really need an escape hatch?" (The answer to the last one is yes, because it is worryingly easy to wreck your mech even without anyone shooting at you).

You know, if I had heard of this before I heard of Lancer, Salvage Union would be the game to save the entire mech genre for me. I love where everything is going with this ALSO UNION REP I WANT GIMME GIMME GIMME! I will also steal apple seeds in this game just to spite Apple. The fact that this game align with one of my life dedications is also a lot of fun. Maybe I should just get a physical copy to keep at the union office...

Cant recommend this game enough. Very fun light blue collar sci fi mecha time. If lancer is feeling a bit too bulky for you or you want something more low tech, check it out.

god these mecha designs are nice. i always thought the Hawken axes deserved a better game for how good they looked. the Brawler there in particular looks like a HAFS Super Jerry if it had arms and a handheld gun

Not gonna lie, i am going to think about it only as Fallout (the old ones) with mechs. IDK why, there just some wery similiar vibes to it. So much so when i would DM a game for this, there's absolutely would be the crawler full of dwellers on a quest to save their anti-apocaliptic vault.

Okay ya know what, I'm just gonna put a foot on this and say comment like this is worthless? Because the last thing I want for Lancer is for it to end up like Salvage Union, because Lancer is NOT Salvage Union. Lancer is a highly tactical mech game that puts more focus on combat on movement on a grid map, where as Salvage Union is a more rule-lite mech game where obtaining salvage is the goal, whether by using gears, conversations, or combats. I do not, ever, present a so called 'better' game, what I present is ALTERNATIVES, whether in vibe, aesthetic, mechanic, theme, complexity, and other things. Lancer is Lancer, and Salvage Union is Salvage Union, both might have the mech themes, but they sure as heck are using it a lot differently.

@@11dragonkid11 I wasn't really serious about my comment so this rant of yours isn't really debunking or devaluing my comment anyway. I can appreciate the differences between this and lancer for the perfectly valid reasons you laid out, but I just noticed that there seemed to have been an opinion floating around that suggested lancer is some kind of "mud and wires" setting that plays up the grungy aspects of the setting, giving it a somewhat dystopian vibe. Obviously I find that opinion questionable myself as I don't think lancer really ever was trying very hard to emulate that vibe, except possibly through its art and nothing more. Lancer as a setting or a system isn't really grungy at all even if its art might suggest otherwise. That's fine, and I'm honestly glad a setting out there like salvage exists to fill that gap. No hard feelings.

@@11dragonkid11 To play devil's advocate for a bit I actually do think there's a lot of things that you can criticize lancer for, despite my affinity for the system overall. I do enjoy it but I think it's fair to say it's far from perfect, and in my personal opinion things about it ought to be tweaked and recontextualized to better provide a more engaging experience than what the books tend to outline. But hey, to each their own as always.
