I practiced Wing Chun some thirty/forty years ago, but it seemed that no one mentioned the simple but important facts as illustrated by you. Thank you very much for your free sharing.

Must be some of the stuff the other big name schools don't hold back on.. The ones that teach everyone the same...no closed door techniques... Truly make so much more sense.... 多謝先生,您係一位學者同傑出嘅老師...

@@kcorsnosbigThank you Brother for sharing the basics right off the get go. As Martial Arts 🥋 in the United States 🇺🇸 has been taught incorrectly. Americans have just like there Christians churches ⛪️ made it into a business. It actually sickens my stomach to watch people 😔to get ripped off. With all these Dojo’s taking money 💰 from those who do not know any better. Wing Chun is a life style that I respect from the Chinese community. Look forward to learning more from you. People talk shit about WC but I'll tell you this, as a relatively experienced striker I've learned more about entrances by watching WC & FMA videos and applying or adapting them to my personal game than any other martial art that I have actually practiced to some degree. I spar with guys who've only trained kickboxing for the most part and between the entrance strategies I've picked up from WC & FMA most of them have a hard time seeing me coming. I use traps & locks very sparingly but when the opportunity is there it's a done deal the majority of the time. Diversify your skillset, you don't need to become an expert in every martial art but if you just get the basics of each then you take what's useful for you & apply it. As they say in Ninjutsu "If it works use it".

You make some excellent points: the importance of the center line, the importance of proper footwork, not losing the connection to the wooden dummy, the importance of not using excessive force, and the importance of proper footwork in order to execute a strike.

Some of the most painful and debilitating strikes are in Okinawan karate BLOCKING with the forearms. Every practioner of Goju, Isshin-ryu, Shorin-ryu, Uechi-ryu etc remembers to the day he dies the pain of practicing blocking. It wasn't bad with other students because you would both go easy on each other. But when you had to practice with a Black Belt, oh the pain. I've been thinking about getting a Wing Chun wooden dummy to start conditioning my forearms again.

Well that's interesting about using the squareness of the holes , never heard that before. I built my own dummy body out of PVC drainage pipe back in the 90's and just made round holes for conviinience , and the arms I bought were round too. It works fine for what I do because I really don't use much Wing Chun . I even added a spring loaded leg to practice sweeps and trips. But that's really cool and it makes total sense. Always more to learn !

G'day, Mr Kevin Lee. I just had to ask a question regarding the wooden dummy. No.1 > First and foremost is the wooden dummy used to train Japanese or Chinese martial arts. No.2 > is this wooden dummy also available overseas ( if indeed yes, is it possible to specify which countries uses it). No.3 > here is the last and most difficult question: if there's a martial arts school in South Africa that uses it and it's close to Pretoria, could it be possible that you can specify which school it is because I want to continue training again. All the best Jaco

Excellent video, thank you! I'm considering purchasing a real wooden dummy but the ones I've seen for sale appear to be too tall. I'm 5'1" so would need one where my arms could reach the upper arms, as well as the middle and the leg. Do you have any suggestions as to who would sell one with appropriate height?

Kevin,. Chinese believe Yin ☯️ and Yang ... In other words a moment to be hard and soft or with in a spilt second! Applications are with good techniques depending on space, distance and timing... You do have food points Mr. Lee.. however, I seen what Black Belts do during work outs many times.
