Thanks for the video. A couple of questions based on your presentation. When you said the capacity of the machine was 3/8 to 1/2 inch, was that the total of all leathers layers sewn at a time or was that for each piece of leather? Also, what is the heaviest weight of thread this machine can sew? Finally, a more generic question about heavy duty leather machines in general: They all seem to have a cylinder arm rather than a flat bed.... What is the advantage of that design? Hi, again! The machine will fit up to 1/2" of leather total (and maybe a little more). The quality and ease of the sewing depends on the density of the leather you're sewing. So, even if you have a 1/2" of leather in there, you may have some issues sewing if the leather is dense leather or if it is a denser part of the leather. The heaviest thickness of thread the machine can sew is 277, and you'll need a needle size that matches the thickness of the thread. A flat bed sewing machine is great for small, thin projects like wallets. For other projects, like belts and handbags, a cylinder arm is ideal. It allows for greater ease of sewing on more three-dimensional projects and access to sewing parts of the leather you may not be able to reach with a flat bed sewing machine. You can also add a flatbed to a cylinder arm sewing machine.

With thinner thread, can this machine sew canvas or other thicker non-leather material. Say I want to make a canvas apron with leather pockets. Can it be done entirely on this machine?

in my experience about 3-4 oz of soft chrome tanned. or 2oz of veg tan. the issue is more of the softer material being pushed down into the feed dog or pulled up through the foot causing puckering. Proper needle and thread size help reduce this

What a beautiful machine ! How much does it weigh approximately, without the table and motor, just the machine head? I was wondering if I can carry one from my car to my garage without assistance. Thanks for any response.

That machine head is probably 150 pounds by itself. The whole setup is 275 pounds.

Atemporal Lightning, I just brought one in today. You could manage the actual sew machine by yourself with a dolly. However, the table part is awkward to carry because it’s offset. It would be better to install the casters so that you can push it to where you need to go and then assemble the rest inside.

@@The7dioses no problem, I absolutely love this machine!! It still takes time to build quality products but oh man do I like the ease of being able to sew a wallet, purse, ect. in a fraction of the time. I did also enjoy putting it all together. There are plenty online instructions to do so.

Thank you Kevin, for showing this video. Your presentation have high quality. I am a bit interested in fighting twist and kinks typically created when the thread leaves the spool. I know, that leatherworkers using Black bonded nylon have some challenges. I notice on this video, that the thread comes off counterclockwise when you look Down on the spool. On most spools I have seen, the thread comes off clockwise. Can you reveal the brand of thread here? I think this way on a spool will normally make fewer problems. I did see you videos regarding threading of machines too. If you got the time, then try to look at this (perhaps new) information that deals with possible other ways to handle threading in order to fight twisting and kinks.
