Hello. Thank you for studying with me. As a high school student, you could consider studying as an international student at a private school. There are elite boarding schools that welcome foreign students. However, these schools are very expensive and competitive. Some likely offer scholarships. You can do a search on Google and the read the info. Contact the school directly with questions that aren't answered. Good luck! (And don't forget the internet offers a lot of free instructional content no matter where you are.)

Hello , I am confused .When we do inversion ,we place subject between helping and main verb as in the below example Ever I have seen such a beautiful water. But what is this kind of inversion where we place both verb before subject? So furious had been the expense of this tour that even had he won, it would not have enriched him. I am so confused because there are different pattern of inversion with different structure .
@Englishwithjennifer
@Englishwithjennifer 10 месяцев назад
The first example only works with a negative adverb: Never have I seen such beautiful water. / I have never seen such beautiful water. That's more typical in writing, but it could be said in spoken English too. Your second example is written English. It sounds formal and literary to my ears. But to be honest, I don't know how expenses can be "furious." Suggestion: So extreme were the expenses that the tour nearly drove him to bankruptcy. (This is a cause-effect relationship: so + adjective + that.) Helpful resources: www.thoughtco.com/inversion-definition-1209968

Hi Ms, I'd like to ask you a question. I'd appreciate it if you could answer. Is it possible to add a clause before and or after an inverted sentence? Inversion with under no circumstances; ''Under no circumstances should criminals be commuted to cheaper sentences.'' ''New punishment laws, pursuant to which under no circumstances can criminals be commuted to cheaper sentences must be legislated.'' Is it possible to use it like this?
@Englishwithjennifer
@Englishwithjennifer 2 года назад
Inversion happens with the negative adverb in the initial position, so no other clause comes before it: Never had I seen such complete neglect. Some negative adverbs are used in a complex sentence with another clause following it. We can even form a complex-compound sentence: No soon had we left [when we discovered][there was a problem with the car brakes], so [we had to turn back].

@Englishwithjennifer

Hi. The meaning is the same, but they form different types of sentences: compound vs. complex. It's similar to BUT vs. HOWEVER. "But" is a coordinating conjunction. "However" is a conjunctive adverb. You may like my playlist on writing skills/punctuation. ru-vid.com/group/PLfQSN9FlyB6Q8MTULKyIHzqKeXpBbxES6 The first video on this page addresses coordinating conjunctions in compound sentences. www.englishwithjennifer.com/students/improve-your-writing-2/ Quiz review exercises: www.englishwithjennifer.com/c/punctuation_coordinating.conjunctions1.htm www.englishwithjennifer.com/c/punctuation_coordinating.conjunctions.2.htm More exercises on complex vs. compound sentences: www.englishwithjennifer.com/students/interactive-exercises/#1471865621520-873ef1bc-9bd3

Hi. Correct: She needs to get it through her head. = She needs to understand. Example: She needs to get it through her head that her communication style isn't helping her business. Why doesn't she understand this?

It was a disruption. What was familiar and orderly became chaotic and stressful. It was an unexpected moment of great transition.
